Technology is continuously making our life comfortable in ways more than we can imagine

and express. Laws are undergoing constant change in the sphere of crimes which are
specifically related to the internet for example the POSCO Act 2012 and its clauses in regard
to Child Pornography or the DNA Profiling Tests, The Aadhar Judgment and its relation to
the Right of Privacy under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. Although technology has
had an inevitable impact on all the sectors, both personally and professionally, if we only
look at the advocate’s office, we can see that quite a lot of the data management and
paperwork is now being dealt with the assistance of software. Law , being a subject with an
interdisciplinary approach, has immensely grown with the increase in international trade,
awareness about artificial intelligence, document collaboration apps, proofreading tools,
smart contract technology, etc. There is also an increase in the competition between legal
service providers which are no longer restricted to advocates and firms indulged in private
practice but also by consultancies. Legal research, which is a time-consuming, tedious and
never-ending job has become easier with the increase in access to online journals like ‘Jstor’,
‘Manupatra’, ‘SSC Online’; citation tools and database access on static software. It has also
become more convenient to check the plagiarism level online with software like ‘Turnitn’
and ‘Urkund’.

In the opinion of jurists belonging to the sociological school of jurisprudence like Roscoe
Pound, Leon Duguit and Max Weber, law evolves with society. Law cannot be studied
without its consonance with the growth of societal values because customary laws have had
its importance since time. For instance, Homosexuality has existed since time immemorial in
more than one species of mammals. The Supreme Court, on the 8th of September 2018, has
struck down particular clauses of Section 377 of the IPC, 1860 , the same of which were
upheld by the Delhi High Court in 2013. This is because societal values change with time and
varies with nations and laws need to be formulated accordingly. Society in turns comprise of
people. If, out of personal experience, I talk about the life of a law student, or any student for
that matter, universities also use technology to upload attendance, study materials,
assignments and test results online. But technology has lead to the increase in conflicts.
Initially fingerprints were considered as the most authentic evidence but eventually it was
discovered that they can be modified with surgeries. The chances being extremely low, two
individuals can also have the same fingerprint. For another example, when we study about
Article 20(3) of Constitution, we need to study about the Brain mapping tests, Narco Analysis
or the Truth Serum Tests.

Conclusively, there is an urgent need for extensive research in order to provide for better
legislations in laws governing the Cyber Space in order to protect both – the privacy of the
individual and the integrity of the state.
