Prior to starting the operations presented in this method, arrange all
materials, tools, and test equipment at the work location so as to
minimize fatigue and inconvenience.
4.0 Procedure
4.1 Overview
The product has been designed to meet international Product Safety
requirements. As part of the requirements, the instructions in this
document must be respected to ensure the Safety of people, equipment
and property. A Product Safety Engineer must validate any deviations
from the Product Safety requirements, to ensure continued compliance,
prior to implementation. Failure to comply with these requirements may
result in risk to people, equipment and property.
Products intended for the United States and Canada have been approved
to UL1950 and CAN/ CSA C22.2 No 950 (Safety of information
technology equipment, including electrical business equipment). All
installations must conform to the requirements of the National Electrical
Code (NEC) and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
4.2.2 Mechanical
1. The product must be secured/mounted according to the requirements of
document GSM BSC e3 & TCU e3 Site Specifications (0000003-06-
9475). Refer to this document for requirements such as mounting
fasteners, mounting hardware, equipment spacing, mounting surface
types, lifting of product, etc.
2. All connectors and cables which are exposed must be suitable for the
intended use. Conduit may serve to protect wires from mechanical
hazards.
3. The customer or the agent of the customer must supply power feeders,
which meet national requirements. The current, voltage, and
temperature specifications of the cable must comply with national
requirements.
4. The product should be installed in a restricted access room. The access
should be restricted to qualified service personnel.
5. The product can be installed in seismic areas up to Zone 4. It
corresponds to the highest risk areas, according to [R6].
4.2.3 Electrical
1. Refer to document GSM BSC e3 & TCU e3 Site Specifications
(0000003-06-9475) for details on the input DC connections.
Information is provided to describe requirements for:
• Input voltage, current and power
• Number and color of DC wires
• DC wire size (AWG and mm2)
2. The product is not provided with a main disconnect device. Therefore,
an appropriate disconnect device should be provided as part of the
building installation by the customer. The product should be powered by
a -48VDC SELV source. One disconnect device is required for each
product, and must clearly indicate the product it controls.
In Canada and the United States, a Listed / Certified circuit breaker must
also serve as the disconnected device.
3. All AC convenience receptacles in the vicinity of the product should be
of an earthing type and the earthing conductors should be connected to
earth.
4. Use only copper conductors for field wiring.
5. In the United States, refer to articles 725, 800 and 810 of the National
Electrical Code
4.2.5 Environmental
1. The product must not be installed in an area where the local internal
environment within the equipment is subject to conductive pollution or
to dry non-conductive pollution which could become conductive due to
expected condensation. Refer to standard IEC664 "Insulation Co-
Ordination for Electrical Equipment Within Low -Voltage System" for
details on product deployment limitations
2. The product has been tested for ingress protection with a level of IP20
according to IEC 529 "Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures -
IP Codes".
3. For details of the expected operating temperature range, refer to
document GSM BSC e3 & TCU e3 Site Specifications (0000003-06-
9475).

• Core I&C Documents: Core documents required to perform a BSS
initial roll out or its upgrade.
• Product Safety Engineer: member of Nortel Product Integrity
group, with experience in the relevant Product Safety standard and
local installation requirements.
• Safety Extra Low Voltage Circuit (SELV): a secondary circuit
which is so designed and protected that under normal and single fault
conditions, the voltage between any two parts of the SELV circuit or
circuits and between any one such part and the equipment protective
earthing terminal does not exceed a safe value (42.4 V peak, or 60 V
DC).
• Telecommunications Network Voltage (TNV): a circuit that, under
normal operating conditions, carries telecommunication signals.
