POLYKEN PIPELINE PRIMERS

#1019, #1027, and #1029

BASIG USE:
The Polyken Pipelihe Primers listed above have been designed and modified to replace polyken's previous
primers, fr919, s92Z and *929. The improved primers are butyl rubber based elastomers blended with
polymeric resins to provide excellent adhesion and cathodic disbonding resistance. Like the 900 series
primers, they can'be used for machine or hand brush application, are non{oxic and non-polluting, and
conform to local and national standards. These improved primers offer a significant improvemenfin cathodic
disbonding resistance.

' Polyken #1019 Pipeline Primer is recommended primarily for machine application to new or smooth pipe
surfaces. lt promotes high adhesion of the Polyken coatings,to the pipe.

' Polyken f1027 Pipeline Primer is ideal for machine application to rough, reconditioned or grit-blasted pipe
surfaces. lt provides a uniformly smooth instant tack surface for Polyken coatings. S'1027 should also be
used for all hand brush applications.

' Polyken #1029 Pipeline Primer is a nonJlammable primer designed for CPT machine application.
Because of its non-flammable characteristics, it is recommended for areas where extreme safety
precautions are being observed. S1029 is also recommendeci for hand brush applications where non-
flammable rnaterials are specified or warranted.

WARNING:
Polyken Primers f 1019 and *1022 are FLAMMABLE tvllXTURES. ,

CAUTION:
Store away from heat and use away from fire, flames, heaters, sparks, lighted cigarettes, etc. Read all label
instructions before using.

machine application at thei;ame time the primary coating is applied, Polyken #955 is available in 3 standard mil
thicknesses. The standard colbr of #955 is white, but it is also available in black or crange to match or code pipeline for
above- or in-ground rnstallation.

PROOUCT ADVANTAGES:
. Proven Performance Polyken #955 is one of a family of Potyken outerwraps that have proven themselves on
- world
pipelinesthroughout the over the p.ast twenty-five years.
. Tight Bond The recommended outerwrap wherever a cornpleie bondrio tape is required. Tough, pre$sure-
-
sensitive adhesive means the outenvrap bonds and stays permaneritly..
o EasY Application Engineered to achieve a taut, smooth machine wrap over a wide range of primary coatings,
Polyken #955 is the- first choice when an adhesive bond of the outerwrap to the primary coating is specified. Gives a
smooth, tough protection to the pipeline underall climatic conditigns, anyterrairi, anywhere in the world.

BASIC USE:
Polyken #980 is a primary coating system incorporating polyethylene backing with a butyl rubber-based adhesive to
assure high bond to primed steel pipe. lt is designed for machine appiication and delivers excellent conformability
when applied over seamed, spiral welded or extruded pipe. Because of the high corrosion protection inherent in the
combina bqtyl rubber a proven in-ground success against
both che on. it is protect ot the Arctic, as well as the shifting
sands of available in th 20 mils and 25 mils. These tour
thicknesses make up the #980 series-

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES:
o Proven Performance #980 is one of the Polyken field coatings that have grown up with the pipeline industry
-
over the past quarter of a century. lt is engineered to meet and surpass the mosl rigorouS requirements of the field.
o Unparalled Adhesion
- The special butyl rubber adhesrve system on Polyken #980 is uneouallecl for high
adhesive bond to primed steel. Equally important, the'adhesive system is laminated to the polyethylene film
backing to assure a totally integrated corr:osion protection system.
o Marimum Corrosion Protection Available in a variety,of thicknesses to moet the rnost hostile tsrrain and
climatic conditions, #980 provides -in-ground or above-ground pipelines with optimurn electrolytic and moisture
resistance.
o Ease of Application P.olyken #980 provides a unilorm lap, superior boncl, a.n{ optimum conlormability under
controlled tension. The- result is a uniform, reproducrble, consistent coating over the entire length of any size pipe.
