1.0 PURPOSE`

To keep Vacuum circuit breaker and Vacuum switch contactor in satisfactory

operational state by providing effective maintenance.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to Vacuum circuit breaker and vacuum switch contactor
in 4.16KV switchgears at Marafiq Yanbu II Power generation.

5.0 PROCEDURE

Refer to Maintenance procedure MYOW-4-PG-316 before executing following activities

A PRIMARY CHECKS
1 Check that electrical PTW is available.
2 Ensure the breaker is isolated.
3 Note down the operating counter reading.
4 Disconnect the auxiliary supply.
5 Ensure that spring is discharge.
B CLEANING
1 Dust out the breaker from outside using clean cloth.
2 Clean the jaw contacts and breaker arm.
3 Clean the shrouds and insulators using dry clean cloth.
C OTHER CHECKS
1 Check the free movement of Manually operated Push
button.
2 Check all Post Insulators for any crack or damage.
3 Check the earthing connection of the breaker.
4 Check and apply recommended lubrication on VCB
terminal contact & Bearing articulated joints and other
moving parts.
D JAW CONTACTS
1 Check the contacts for any pitting / physical damage.
2 Check the flexibility of the contacts.
E OPERATING MECHANISM
1 Check visually complete operating mechanism.
2 Check closing and tripping mechanism sequence operate
it a few times.
3 Operate the breaker 2 times by charging the closing
spring manually. Also check for proper operation of
indicators.

F ELECTRICAL TESTS
1 Measure the IR value for below conditions with 2.5KV
megger. Min value should be100 Mega Ohm
1. Each pole to body with contacts and between pole
to pole in closed conditions
2. Between Open and close poles in contact open
condition
2 Check the contact resistance.
3 Check the operation of circuit breaker by stimulation of
trip relay.
G CABLE COMPARTMENT
1 Check the cable termination and clean the compartment.
2 Check for the loose bolts and gap between panel
sections. Extra holes if any to be sealed.
3 Measure the IR values of the cables by 5KV Megger.
4 Check the CT connections for looseness.
H RELAY AND METERING COMPARTMENT
1 Check for the loose connection at connectors, relays and
meter terminals.
2 Check that all fuses are in healthy conditions & of correct
rating as per scheme drawing. If not replace.
3 Check the healthiness of indication lamps. Replace fused
lamp.
4 Dress all the cables neatly and put cable bay covers.
5 Check the all earthing connection of breaker and panel..
6 Check the condition of door gaskets.
7 Check for damage or dent on the trolley traveling path.
8 Check breaker auxiliary switch connections and 72 pin
top for any damage (pitting, bend).
9 Ensure that no tools, tackles, materials kept inside
breaker, cable, relay compartment.
10 Check the relay settings with relay setting schedule
11 After completion of the job ensure that all doors are firmly
closed with all bolts in position.
12 After completion of the job, ensure that all waste material
