- Separated into two groups:
bacteria and cyanobacteria
- Over 1800 species

Protist - One-celled/unicellular - Amoeba


- Have a nucleus - Algae
- Can move around within their
environment and make their own
food
- Over 38,000 species

Fungi - Can be one-celled or multi-cellular - Mushrooms


- Do not make their own food - Yeast
- Decomposers
- Use enzymes to absorb nutrients
- Motionless

Plantae - Multi-cellular - Trees


- Cells contain chlorophyll (green - Tulips
pigment)
- Take in energy from the sun
through a process called
photosynthesis
- Oldest plant fossil is 4 million
years-old

Animalia - Multi-cellular - Humans


- Have complex systems - Whales
- Do not make their own food
- Largest of all five kingdoms
- Separated into two groups:
vertebrates and invertebrates
- About 1 million species
