8th Grade Environmental Science Class Syllabus – Mr.

Wertz
Environmental science is defined as a branch of life science focused on the study of the
relationships of the natural world and the relationships between organisms and their
environments. This course will focus specifically on the human impact on the environment.
Course Content:
 Water Usage
 Land Usage
 Pollution
 Population Change Impact on Natural Resources
 Climate Change
Course Grades:
Student grades will be based on total points earned divided by total points possible for each
assignment or project. That grade will then be calculated based on the current OEMS middle
school grading scale:
98 - 100% A+
94 – 97 % A
90 – 93 % A-
87 – 89 % B+
83 – 86 % B
80 – 82 % B-
77 – 79 % C+
73 – 76 % C
70 – 72 % C-
67 – 69 % D+
63 – 66 % D
60 – 62 % D-
59 % or less F

Course Guidelines / Expectations:


 All students are expected to work individually on daily assignments.
 All students are expected to work with partners or in groups for various projects.
 All students are expected to handle group disagreements / conflicts in a positive
manner.
 All students are expected to follow normal classroom behavioral procedures.
 All students are expected to follow proper safety procedures when using specific tools
and equipment.
