Course Description:
This course is a study of outstanding literary works of famous writers from
different parts of the world. This focuses on the analysis of selected literary
works and delves into the literature of various cultures- Greek, Roman,
Oriental, Asian, Spanish, Latin American, English, American, Russian, French
and African. This course also provides the students with the opportunity to
explore the different approaches to literary criticism.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students shall have:

1. Gained deeper insight into the different literary works of the world’s great
literati and their literary, philosophical and religious contributions to world
cultures; and related the important contribution of the continental countries
and assimilate philosophical connections learned from the study to the
present situation;
2. Analysed literary pieces of some representatives from Oriental and Asian
countries; specifically noting their form, structure and style; and composed
poems and Haikus;
3. Appreciated literary masterpieces so as to gain better understanding and
develop insights of other people’s culture through different literary forms and
genres; and
4. Comprehended and proficiently interpreted literary texts through class
discussions and writing activities; demonstrated proficiency in English within
the context of the literary selections; and complied the final requirement.

Unit I- Introduction to Literature
Oriental/Asian Literature (Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino)
Midterm Unit II- Literature of Greece
The Iliad and Odyssey

Semi-Final Part II- Classical and Contemporary World Literature


Unit III- Poetry
Unit IV- Essay or Speech Presenting Arguments

Final Unit V- Excerpts from Shakespearean Tragedies and Comedies


Unit VI- Short Story Selections
Unit VII- Novel/Play

As evidence of attaining the above learning outcomes, students are required
to do and comply the following during the indicated dates of submission. The
