According to the expansion demand, Bach Mai II and Viet

Duc II are major projects that get investment from state bud-
get. The ambitious vision for these new facilities is getting a
global standard and capable to serve the local region, also
the surrounding nations such as Laos, Cambodia...with 1000
beds for each hospital.

I had a chance to work in competition phase and concept

phase of these two projects, which two biggest state hospitals
in Vietnam when I worked for VK Architects and Engineers. I
learned from Belgian experts and colleagues; practiced and
grown in medical planning, healthcare design acknowledges.
We proceeded the project with global mindset and aware-
ness about local conditions, building codes, local government
and quality of many relevant stakeholders such as contrac-
tors, suppliers…And I am honor to be a part of the designing
team because these projects actually improve medical care
quality of state hospital, decrease the current healthcare’s over-
load in Vietnam.

Same as Bach Mai II, Viet Duc II is also the prioritized project
that gets the major share of state investment. With also 1000
beds and more than 40 operating rooms, this new hospital will
promisely adapt enormous current healthcare demand

VK Architects and Engineers honorly won the consulting bid-

ding packages of both hospitals: Bach Mai General Hospital II
and Viet Duc Surgical Hospital II. And I had a great chance to
follow these projects since very early stages: from marketing
chasing, project establishment, competition, to concept de-
sign. Especially, I also partly participated the technical phase
of Viet Duc project in 2016, right after finished my Master pro-
gram in Belgium and came back to work for VK Architects
and Engineers.

This 500-bed private hospital is a new construction within the

existing campus of Thanh Hoa state hospital and will provide a
high quality of medical care to local.

The design team and I faced to project’s challenges about

limited budget of private investor, unstable decision-making
of shareholders, ambitous compact medical facility and con-
struction phasing...With consulting from the healthcare expert
of Belgian team, I developed and re-designed some specific
spaces and layouts which need to be eye-catching, pratical
and high persuasive in space planning, such as ground floor,
main entrance, logistic departments in basement....I was also
in charge in presentation booklets and leaded some juniors to
co-working in this task.

According to Vietnamese law, for this project’s scale, the

concept competition is held to select the executive consul-
tant. This condominium aims to mid-end target group, range
B apartment.

The investor’s expectation of marketing number reflected in

the design brief is a real challenge for consultants. Especially,
the project is located in District 9, where is the outstanding real
estate market with plenty of competetive diversed mid-end
apartments.

Besides archieving an ideal number, the concept should be

eye-catching within the high competetive situation. As a
team leader and main designer of this project, my approach
is defining project’s keys and what is important for the compe-
tition in Vietnam market. That also earns more points for GSA
Vietnam’s profile beside of leading a project.

The residential area, located in the suburban district of Ho Chi

Minh city promisely provides high-end accommodations for
who love harmony between airy modern living space and na-
ture.

Besides of preparing documentation, I also participated in de-

signing concept for some architectural items in the residential
area, such as types of villas and clubhouse.

Understand the common architecture language and proj-

ect’s key is important for me and for the final collective pro-
posal. Keep in mind that approach, my creativity added val-
ue to the shared consequense and help me become a good
player of a team.

Mission of the contest is improving the current situation of Ho

Chi Minh City’s streetscape that is lacking of social interaction
and impact.

My project was named “Smilling”, used as a friendly basic

medium for social connection, applied in the streetscape in-
tervention. The idea comes from a beauty of honest smiles.
Smiles them-self don’t discriminate races, classes, ages or sex-
es. They just have the same value - Provoke and empower to
optimistic mind-set, especially within the high dense mega city
as Saigon.

From the ambitious of Stockholm Royal Seaport, the concept

of Symbio City is represented in a different aspect. The symbi-
otic relationship in architecture context is observed by the lens
of territory. The architectural intervention reflects a symbiotic
relationship. Infrastructure have a potential to join in the urban
fabric as a social infrastructure, generates public connections,
besides being a basic physical installation, which needed for
the operation of a society.

The multi-functional house is a flexible and practical installa-

tion within the urban context. The main aim is create a meet-
ing point, located underneath the touch-down infrastruc-
ture can offer “a place” to the public and useful in a sense
of pleasure. This architecture development is a choice that
has to deal with the existing structure somehow still maintain
the mixture of the surrounding areas’ identities (industrial zone
and residential zone), also break through the splitting impact
of normal infrastructure via the waterfront platform.

The approach of this master thesis is under the frame work

”Promiscuous Assemblages: Territory, Ecology & the Welfare
State”, mainly focus in Territory issue. I had a great chance to
broaden my mind-set with urban perspective and used differ-
ent experemental tools to “see” the matter of the place. By
that way, the architecture intervention came up as a conse-
quence of co-woking between academic methodology and
creativity.

PTW provided a full consultant package including architec-

ture, interior design, landscape for the worldwide-brand 4-star
hotel - Novotel Saigon Center, under Accor’s hospitality guide.
This project went through all stages from concept, schematic
design, basic design, technical development and construc-
tion drawings.

Started as junior architect of PTW, I earned a chance to prac-

tice interior design in this project during technical design phase
and construction drawings phase. I become an enthusiastic
ID assistant who had a willingness to proceed multitasks that
the ID team and senior designers needed. During that time the
diversed experience I earned and learned enriched my prac-
ticing, from working with suppliers, updating schedules, pre-
paring material sample boards, coordinating with draftmen
to self-prepare documentation, detailing for technical design
phase and construction drawings.

This building is the temporary Sale galery for one real estate
project of Alpha King and they also planned to move their
head office to this new construction. The Interior design ex-
pressed the high demand of hospitality from the client. It
should tightly follow a storyline to sale real estate productions
of the Investor, but also well fit to the pratical mid and low end
budget for the back of house’s area.

I joined the D2 Sales Centre of Alpha King when working for

GSA. My job is the Interior leader of this project from concept,
technical design and construction drawings. Beside under-
standing and utilizing the unique fusion beauty of the archi-
tecture, the interior concept actually was a story teller for
multi-functional building which is lift up by high end hospitality
style, somehow emerged the local taste, alongside the prati-
cal design of BOH’s area.

During the time to proceed this project, there were many dif-
ficulties to deal with. I personally had grown quickly during
the process. This is a temporary project with 15 years lifespan,
the tight project timeline and high demand client with many
VOs and various decision-makers. The project was transfered
through many colleagues in both Architecture and Interior be-
fored handed to me as team leader of Interior Design. This situ-
ation also happended to other consultants , such as C&S and
MEP. Thus, coordination sessions between all parties required
participants that can catch up issues quickly, be flexible and
strong in team work.

This project is a new construction for staff housing, located in

Westin Cam Ranh Resort, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam. The scope of
interior design includes staff accommodations and staff shared
facility under Marriott‘s basic guidance with a resonable and
limited budget from the investor.

As a ID team leader and designer, listening to expectations of

investor, hospitality operator, approval architecture concept,
also understanding relevant stakeholders’ situations is highly
important for me. That crucially drives this project on the right
track, within the tight timeline. The design intent is focusing on
practical and appropriate concept but still highlighting the
5-star Marriott branding - Westin Resort, even the staff house.

The color code concept and mix - match furniture selec-

tion offer young, fresh, modern living space, are also easy
for maintenance and future-proof of spatial transformation.
During concept design, I also faced to shortened manpow-
er and supporting team. Therefore, understanding strength/
weakness of colleagues, aslo the working flows helped me to
arrange effectively all tasks for suitable staffs and mange to
deliver the project on time with a good quality.

Located in the heart of new city downtown - Ditrict 7, HCMC,

the Pediatric clinic with limited rental area 240 m2 proudly pres-
ents their high quality medical services by the well-equipped
facility and tasteful interior space itself. This vision of Family
Medical Practice builds up their image as one of the favorite
and reliable private clinics in Saigon years after years.

With a limited rental area, the medical planning is settled

tightly . As the leader and designer of interior package, the
two options of mine offered choices and clarification what is
match client’s vision the most. And the concept is easily ap-
proval with the high delight from client. Since then, we got an-
other contract from them. For me, I gain further in this project,
not just about the approval design. Consulting service is also
about gaining client’s trust and win their expectation.

More than that, I belief as the well-trained and experient archi-

tects, we can help people, including clients and users group
“see” and “materialize” their dreams with adding proffessional
values.

Design concept for renovation, facade design,
medical planning, interior design (leader),
Sketchup 3d modelling,
Presentation booklets.

This is a renovation project. The current structural frame had

been done nearly 10 years ago. And GSA has to adapt new
design brief to the existing rough construction. The project’s
challenges are many: not just an adpatable medical plan-
ning, also a MEP system application, especially tight budget
of private investor and lacking of information about the exist-
ing construction which located in the low land area, next to
Saigon’s river bank.

As a heathcare design team member, my colleguages and

I built up the appropriate medical planning and general lay-
outs. Besides that, I also proposed a concept of facade de-
sign that is conherence with the new adaptation layouts.

For interior design, I was honorably assigned as an ID leader

since my understanding of healthcare design , ID experience
and creative ability. The interior design concept reaches out
the client’s expectation about the international quality gener-
al hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Job description [Self-work]:
Interior concept design, construction drawings,

Project management & FFE,
Construction supervision.

This is a tailored design for elderly couple’s accommodation.

However, the apartment still needs to be flexible for various
demands of different tenants in case of leasing.

The 3-bedroom apartment with 80 m2 area requires high-effi-

ciency of spatial planning, practical FF&E selection and build-
in furnishing.

In this project, my mind-set, skills, tasks to do are multiple and

flexible. I proposed concept design, proceeded the project
from beginning to the end; not just interior design, FF&E select-
ing, but also project management and construction supervi-
sion.

During the project, the coherence in many aspects that I pre- E9-27 apartment - Living room
sented offered desirable consequences to client, which sav-
ing a good amount and a beloved living space called “new
home” for them, as well as future tenants.

This is the first interior design package that VK consults in Viet-

namese market. The project went through phases: concept,
detail development and construction drawings.

After concept approval , I continued to lead the ID team pro-

ceed the project in the next stages: detail development and
construction drawings by Revit. We worked as a Revit team of
5 members, including me.

With a support from Revit operator, I managed to co-work be-

tween members and set-up timeline for a whole team. Besides
technical design, develop details, prepare sample boards
and communitcate to team members for conherencing infor-
mation between schedules and drawings, I also shared the
workload of documentation via Revit platform with my col-
leagues.

This building is the temporary Sale galery for one real estate
project of Alpha King and they also planned to move their
head office to this new construction. The Interior design ex-
pressed the high demand of hospitality from the client. It
should tightly follow a storyline to sale real estate productions
of the Investor, but also well fit to the pratical mid and low end
budget for the back of house’s area.

After concept approval, we continued to proceed the further

stages in Revit in both architecture and interior documenta-
tion to meet the deadline and quickly revise in case of chang-
ing, updating and coordinate between consultants’ works:
architecture, structure and MEP.

The rightside figure is one example about the process to ap-

proach and solve problems in technical design and construc-
tion drawings. In this project, the 2/3 of facade is light boxes
with LED inside that can do some lighting performances. Thus,
the detail of light box wall definitely is one of the most import-
ant design, which relevant to price, quality of interior space,
maintainance, capapility of contractor and supplier...So, we
discussed first by sketches, directions before detailing.

VK Belgium participated in the design competition of New

Hospital of Trento, Italy. And Belgian team need some assist
from Vietnamese team.

My language and Belgian well-trained background are ap-

preciated in this case. Therefore, I co-worked with Belgian
colleagues in documenting. We did Revit work-sharing for this
project.
