1. Create a New Project
2. Select Language
3. Select Import Source ->Database
1. If necessary, click New and follow the Data Source Wizard to create
your connection to GoSales DataWarehouse
2. If your connection exists, select it and click next.

4. Select Objects ->Select all Tables, click next
5. Generate Relationships ->check Use primary and foreign
keys
• check Use matching query item names that represent uniquely
indexed columns
• click the option button to detect and generate relationships
between imported query subjects
• When an outer join exists in the database select the option button
to convert the relationship to an inner join (for performance
reasons)
• Click Import
Wait while data is imported…click OK when done and FM opens.
6. Create a Parent Folder that contains all the query subjects
that represent the physical model.
7. Validate Relationships – keep your reporting requirements
in mind.
Go to Object Diagram View and validate your relationships. There should
be a missing relationship between the Time dimension and the Inventory
Levels fact table. Add this relationship by clicking the Month Key field in
each table and selecting Create Relationship. Create the relationship as
1..1= 1..n (fact – dim) just as all the other relationships. Click OK to build
the relationship.
8. Clean up the query items, deal with Multilingual Data ( in
this case delete all columns other than _EN - show via Edit
Definition)

9. Verify Usages, Aggregation Rule Properties and set
Visibility of query items.
Expand the view of each query subject in the Project Viewer. Also, the
default Aggregation Rule is Sum, this may not be appropriate for all facts.
1. Holding the CTRL key and clicking with your mouse, highlight all
facts that should be identifiers. (Ensure that your Properties
pane is visible).
2. In the Properties pane, scroll to the Usage column and for the
first item change the value to Identifier. Click the arrow that
appears below the drop down box and drag to highlight all the
rows in the properties pane. This will change the value in the
Usage column for all items selected.
3. Next, repeat step 1 for all facts that should be attributes.
4. Repeat step 2 changing the value to Attribute.
5. Look at your facts and determine which are additive, and semi-
additive. Determine the type of aggregation to perform and
repeat steps 1 and 2 to modify the Regular Aggregate column.
Example1:Inventory Levels Fact…Closing Balance is not additive,
change value to Unsupported. Example 2: Sales Fact…
Conversion Rate should not be summed, change value to
Average.
10. Show the search feature being used to apply common
changes
1. Select Search from the tool bar
2. When the Search menu appears, click the More>> button to
expand the pane to show search options.
3. Search in the namespace or folder that you use for your physical
database view. Specify ‘Query Item’ in the Class drop down box
and ‘ends with’ in the Condition drop down. In the Search For
box type KEY and click Search.
4. A list of items will appear in the Search pane, highlight them and
they will appear in the properties pane.
5. In the Hidden column, change the value to ‘true’ for the first
item, then click the arrow below the cell and drag to change all
items.

11. Create Star Schemas


Select the tables that apply to a single star schema. Right click and select
Create Star
Schema Grouping…a window will appear, select Create a shortcut for
all selected objects and make sure that Move the objects in a new
namespace is checked. Click OK, a new namespace will appear with
shortcuts to the query subjects you have selected. Rename the
namespace and move it to the folder of your choice.
12. Create and Publish a Package
In Project Viewer right click Packages and select Create->Package.
Specify the name and contents of your package. Select the group you
wish to have access to the package and then functions you wish to have
available and click Finish to create your package.
To Publish your package, right click Publish Packages…and select the
option Cognos ReportNet Server, check the box to Enable model
versioning and click Publish.
13. Go to CRN and Query Studio
