MODULE 1
SELF – AWARENESS

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
 Assess his/her personality using a list of personal questions covering appearance and speech,
character traits, attitude towards others, and his/her range of interests.
 Discover new information regarding his/her own personality, such as positive attributes and areas
for improvement while going through a set of personal questions.
 Explain how a smile can enhance his/her own personality

II. CONTENT
Topic : PERSONALITY CHECK
Materials: Module, pen and paper

III. DEVELOPMENT

A. MOTIVATION
1. Socrates, a famous Greek philosopher once told his students, “Know Thyself”. He explained that
understanding oneself will protect a person from committing mistakes that will bring him misery. Do
you agree with him? At this point in your life, can you say that you really know yourself? The next
activity will help you answer this question.

B. ACTIVITY 1
CHECKING YOUR OWN PERSONALITY
Answer each of the following questions with a Yes or a No. Be a good sport; play fair.
(Please refer to the attached activity sheet )
PROCESSING
 What did you observe in the table? How many Yes did you have in each category ? If you have more Yes than
No, what does this mean?
 How many No do you have in the abovementioned categories? If your No outnumber the Yes, what does it
mean? The area where you have the most number of No is the area where you need to improve . Look at the
table again. In what area do you have the most number of No?
 Go over all the items which you answered Number Rank them according to your priority.
 Choose the first two choices and list down the steps you can take to improve them.

YOUR PERSONALITY QUOTIENT


Your personality quotient is a yardstick of the traits which influence how you get along in the world. Your
appearance and speech , attitudes and actions together make up your personality. Developing your personality
means building up the good qualities you now have and adding others to them. Boosting your personality
quotient is a lifetime job that pays off in satisfaction and happiness

The total number of your Yes or No answer in the activity will give you an idea about your personality quotient
(PQ).

C. ACTIVITY 2 - FIRMING UP
1. Read this short poem and see what a smile can do to enhance your personality.

SMILE
A smile is something that makes you sweeter,
It doesn’t cost a cent;
A smile is something all your own,It can never be lent;
A smile is something that makes you younger
It does away with frowns;
A smile is good for everyone to ease the ups and downs
PROCESSING

 Do you think a smile will positively affect others’ perception of you? How?
 How will you relate the message of the poem to the concepts you have just learned?

D. ACTIVITY 3
Read the anecdote and find out the understanding character of the man whose name is, and will
always be remembered in the annals of history.

President Lincoln once dropped a few kind of words about the Confederates. A woman flashed forth
a question of how he could speak kindly of his enemies when he should rather destroy them. “What
Madam? Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?

PROCESSING
 Do you agree with what Lincoln did? Why?
 What do you think will be the effect of his personal character and his good intention on his enemies?
 If you have an enemy at this point in time, would you do the same?
 How does a person’s character affect his relationship with others?

E. APPLICATION
After undergoing the activities, you may have learned that improving one’s personality is important.
In the blanks provided below, write the areas of your personality that you want to improve.

Ask any three of the following – a parent, an older brother or sister, and a friend at least three persons
in all – to go through the questionnaire and check those items which they think apply to you. Do not forget to
remind the respondents to have you in mind when they go over the questions.
