up for a small chat on neoliberal reforms?

5:59am
hhahahahah
its 9 am, but sure
always up for political chats
it's 6AM and i havent slept this night just gone by
i know how it feels...
been preparing for a panel discussion, so thought I'd get ur thoughts on the top
ic
oh and before that, wru now ??
im back in tokyo, study time, mid terms tomorrow...
panel discussions for what?
okay, then gimme 5 mins... am sure ur done with ur preparations anyway
panel discussion on whether neoliberal reforms are the way forward for india as
a nation of 850 million poor people
am saying that it is, and am guessing u have ur reservations
well, my problem with neoliberalism is that it is too market and economic driven
. and i am a commie at heart (don't spread that). and india being such a unique
and enormous country the cost benefit calculation does not have an advantageous
result at the end
lol i wont spread that now... will wait till ur a lot more famous!
but it has worked really well in divided populations, it just need to be cautiou
sly implemented
post apartheid south africa is a great example.
yeah, so u do agree that a gradualistic approach to economic reforms is the way
forward?
i have no idea about the economic policies of post-apartheid SA
the deal is, neoliberalism solves the economic problems of a state, but not of i
ts population. most likely the 850 million poor indians are still going to be po
or after an excellent implementation of such reform
but, would u rather have a slowly growing economy with a lot of regulations? tha
t wont be sustainable, considering the rate at which our population is growing
but at least the government in india will be able to afford general improvements
to the population, (if that too is done correctly) like infrastructure, health
and education. and all that leads to a general improvement in the living standar
ds (which is great) and allows the population to emerge economically
india is always a especial case, you can't just say that any reform that works a
broad will work in your country, numbers are to the power of a billion there. an
d this changes everything.
wait, just to clarify, are you saying that a slow growth economy with loads of s
poon-feeding and protection will be able to sustain in the long run??
no, slow growing economies will never give the poor population to emerge. but re
alistically, there is always going to be a poor class. the intentions of the ref
orm should be to improve their standards of poverty as fast as you can, and if t
he government is trustworthy in implementing human development policies with the
profits of neoliberalism, then im completely fine with it
oh there is another problem of free market, it tends to increase unemployment an
d that for itself increases poverty.
i realy haven't made up my mind on economic policies for each country. if you fi
nd the solution for india, let me know.
but u'll also need to invest in further growth rite? though i totally agree that
government spending on education, health, agriculture, rural welfare, etc is on
the lower side, how can we be sure about that? numbers can deceive and more imp
ortantly, it's not as if government spending reaches the intended destination in
full anyways.... So, how RIGHT is our govt. really with respect to its expendit
ure on these 'core' sectors?
i really wish i knew those answers especially the last one
and again, about employment, can India shut shop and still provide meaningful em
ployment to 1.2 billion people?
that is the problem if the government spending is not properly directed and bene
fits the population in need, the 850 million will be continue there same life, a
nd that does not seem fair in my mind, but it is what tends to happen
and even if u argue that meaningful isnt necessary, this whole thing needs to be
sustainable....
okay, lemme ask u a very pointed question
i believe india needs all types of solutions, one plan is not capable of reachin
g everyone.
right, got ur answer to the question i was gonna ask
atleast, i now know wat ur gonna say
what was the question
if u thought india can slow down drastically and sustain the population in the l
ong run? How important is this economic growth in the long run? Cos to keep 1.2
billion ppl occupied, facebook's not enough and regulations will probably encou
rage local entrepreneurs only upto a threshold level
again, just my thoughts... do slam me before my co-panelist does it today....
don't worry i think you are well prepared, and first hand experience matters mor
e than anything to build an opinion on economic reforms, that is why i travel so
much
am sorry for my lousy memory, but wat do u plan on becoming again?
Dont say diplomat
i cant be a diplomat
i know
probably political advisor do a VERY rich (i hope) private institution like open
society, and therefore work on the field. but open society is only focused on d
emocracy, which i do not think is the best solution of all states. it is not a o
ne size fits all. and i am focusing my major on ethnic divisions and conflict re
solution
the short answer: don't know yet
why conflict resolution???
yeah
i like war
lol:P
anyways, great talking to u as always.... am off now to catch some sleep
i need to go revise now
ttys
not really used to such long nights
yeah, besta luck on ur exams and u can now wish me luck too
good luck!
