Sample Answer

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Parag Dutta. I had applied for the Master’s in Social Work (MSW) course in your college.
Yesterday, I received a letter of acceptance for the same. I am writing to apologize for not being
able to start this course immediately and to discuss its future availability.

I am very keen to pursue a Master’s program in Social Work. It would greatly boost my career
growth. But, work commitments have interrupted my plan of studies. I have been working with a
Non-governmental Organization for the past 3 years. Recently, we have started an overseas
project. I am a member of the team and I have to go to Sri Lanka for at least 6 months.

Since this course starts in July and I am supposed to leave for Sri Lanka in the first week of
August, it is not feasible for me to start it right now. Anyway, please let me know if I could join it
after February, 2018 as I will be back by then.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Write a letter to one of your classmates and invite him to a class reunion. You should include the
following in your letter
– when and where the party is
– give some details about what is going to happen at the party
– tell him/her what you have been doing recently
Write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer

Dear Gagan,

I believe you receive this letter in pink health and high spirit. I’m writing to invite you for a
reunion party on next Sunday, 12th May, at Den’s Cafeteria in Defence Colony, Dehradun.
It’s been 6 years since we completed our graduation. Sadly, most of us haven’t met each-other
for a long time. Everyone got busy with their careers and personal life after college, making it
difficult to stay in touch with fellow students.
It’s quite understandable. Life is very demanding these days. Having a fine balance between
work and personal life is almost impossible. I’ve been working as an assistant professor in
Graphic Era University, Dehradun for the past 3 years. Final exams are just over and I thought of
using this opportunity to organize a small reunion party for all our batchmates.
I have made all the arrangements which include a few games, followed by dance and dinner. We
shall reach the venue by 6 pm and then enjoy together till late. I hope this time is convenient to
you.
See you on the 12th of May!

You have finished a course. Write a letter to the course organizer to give your
feedback. In your letter include:

 the details of the course

 what you enjoyed during the course

 any suggestions you would have

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir,

My name is Rosy Ali. I have recently completed a one year diploma in Mass Communication
from your academy. I am writing to share my experience of this course with you.

In total, there were 6 subjects in the course. All of them were quite interesting. But, the print
media was my favorite major as it developed my writing skills significantly. It was very
informative to learn about different types of write-ups such as news stories, articles, press release
and blogs etc. Video Editing was another enjoyable subject. The way faculties introduced us to
the practical aspects of editing tools and methodologies is really appreciable.

The classes at your academy were attractive and stimulating. They have transformed my amateur
talent of writing into a professional ability. This is a considerable achievement for me. In fact, I
am planning to embark on a career in the print media.

Overall, my experience of the course has been great. Still, I would suggest you to introduce
evening batches or weekend classes for working professionals or students who are unable to
attend the full-time course.

Yours sincerely,
Your English teacher has invited you for her wedding. But, you are unable to attend the function.

Write a letter to her. In your letter

o thank her for sending the invitation

o explain why you cannot attend the ceremony

o give information about any future plan to see her

Sample Answer

Dear Deepali Ma’am,

I believe you are doing well. Thank you very much for inviting me to your wedding.
Unfortunately, it would not be possible for me to attend the ceremony as these days I am in an
overseas training program facilitated by my organization. This training is an essential part of my
job profile and would upgrade my knowledge. Hence, it is not feasible for me to take a break and
travel to India.

It would have been a great pleasure for me to be a part of this special occasion of your life as you
have been a mentor to me during my graduation. Your guidance and motivation have always
helped me in making important choices about career and life. Certainly, you were one of the best
faculties in the Bachelor of Arts course in Satya College. I will surely visit you when I return to
Delhi, probably by the end of November this year.

Once again thank you for inviting me. I wish you all the best for your wedding and life ahead.

Yours sincerely,

You were supposed to receive a friend at the airport. But, for some reasons you are unable to do
so. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter
– explain why you can’t come,
– guide them regarding other options to get to your home,
– describe the plans/visits you made to show them around when your friend arrives.

Sample Answer

Dear Sushmita,

I believe your preparations to come to India are in full swing. I am eagerly waiting to see you on
Thursday evening. As discussed earlier, I had promised to collect you from the airport but
unfortunately I would not be able to keep my words due to an unplanned official meeting.

Just yesterday my boss informed me about an urgent meeting of foreign delegates that will take
place on the coming Thursday, the day of your arrival. I have been asked to give a presentation
too. In this case, it won’t possible for me to reach the airport as we had planned earlier. Don’t
worry. The airport has an excellent taxi service. My suggestion for you would be to take a cab
from the airport to reach my home. You can book a cab online or hire one from outside the
airport.

I just can’t wait to see you and I have planned many things for your stay. I have reserved seats
for a get-together with our college friends in the ‘Memories Café on Friday evening. On
Saturday, we would go shopping and enjoy the street food of Delhi. We will plan the rest of days
as per your preferences.

I Look forward to seeing you soon! (207 Words)

For the past one year, I had been working to get past through the interview of IIMC and I am
thankful that we were in it together. From photography to video editing, getting the interviews
done, you have helped me whenever I needed it.

Last week was my meeting and I know if it was not for the professional emergency you would

that we had made together and they loved the “The Women in White” the most. Moving on there
were questions about the photographs and the articles.

You would be happy to know that I have been selected and if it was not for you, I don’t think it
was possible. Your help with the camera and the proofreading of articles, more importantly, the
emotional support made me go with it.

I will be visiting you soon. (156 Words.)

that I have got selected in an MNC and would be moving for the job next week.

It will, therefore, be not possible for me to continue with the course. However, it has been a
learning experience and I have learned not only English speaking but so many other facets of the

Last month, you visited our colony Adarsh Vihar, near Balliwala Chowk to sell the Ayurveda
products. There were products for face, foot, and hair and you promised all of them to not have
any side effects. On that note, I bought a foot cream: Heal the Foot for myself. It promised that I
will no longer have any foot cracks.
However, on applying the cream, the cracks have increased for me. Not only that, sometimes the
crack become so deep that it starts bleeding. Furthermore, a friend of mine bought a face wash

The product did not help us with our body and to make it worse also had side effects. I would

However, on unpacking, I found there were few items that were damaged. Apart from some

There is a historical building in your town and the city council wants to pull it down because
there is no money for repairs. You are not happy with this decision. Write a letter to the city
council and say :

 why is the building important?

 suggest a solution to finance the repairs.

You should write at least 150 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have been living in Bhubaneswar for the past four years and have become accustomed to the
different places it has to offer. Recently, it came to my knowledge that the city council is
planning to shut down the house of Raja Vasudevan. Raja Vasudevan was one of the pioneers
who helped in the making of the history of Bhubaneswar.

I have visited the place often and agree that the building requires repairs urgently. However,
shutting down the building will have more negative impact than positive. There are many people
who look up to the place and it can even act as a tourist spot. If the city council collects Rs.10
from the entire city, we are more likely to have around 10 lakh from the city and the rest can be
afforded by the council.

Once the repairs are done, the building can be used as the tourist spot and be a profitable site.
Although it sounds a distant plan, this will surely help is restoring the building and in turn the
history of Bhubaneswar.

 whom did you visit the museum with?

 what problems/inconveniences did he/she face?

 also, suggest solutions to enhance the museum visit experience for an elderly

Write at least 150 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,
We have been living in the city for quite a long time and your museum has been the must go
place for our family members in every month. So, when my friend’s grandfather visited our city,
we brought him along with us to visit the museum. Initially, he was very content with the feel of
the place but got irritated because there were no places to sit. We felt an urgent need for more
places to sit in the museum.

The second time he looked at us with pleading eyes was when we were having lunch at the
museum. The food items were good for us, but they were a bit too oily for my grandfather. After
six hours of visit, he felt tired and hungry. Had there been some fruits and juice center, it would
have helped a lot.

The concerns might seem bit obvious but when interacting with other elderly people, I found
similar feedbacks. Your museum has a good reputation in general, I hope these suggestions will
help you in improving the experience of the museum.

Dear Mr. David,

I believe you are doing fine. It was great meeting you in the party last Sunday and I thoroughly
enjoyed the conversation with you. I have received a job offer letter from you and am writing in
reference to the same.

I am pleased to have been offered the ‘Marketing Manager’ position in your company’s new
branch in our city. However, I am unable to accept this offer because of my ongoing employment

It would be great for me to join your team but unfortunately I have completed only one year with
the present employer, which is half of the tenure of the contract. Anyhow, since I cannot accept

I sincerely apologize for turning down this excellent opportunity at the moment but would
definitely check with you once my present contract is over. It would be a privilege to work with
you and your team in the future. Thank you very much for considering my profile for this job.

Sample Answer

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the facilities provided by your sports center
located at the MG Road. It has been two years since I and my husband joined this center. We
both attend the aerobics classes in the morning and do swimming in the evening.

I want to bring into your notice that the changing rooms in the pool section are not being
maintained properly. Firstly, the towels are soiled and even damp sometimes. Secondly, there is a
foul smell in the rooms most of the time. It seems as if the area is not cleaned thoroughly and no
room freshener is used. We talked with the facilitator before writing to you but the issue was
ignored rather than being resolved. Such a response has disappointed us as it is a basic hygiene
issue which should have been taken care of immediately after the first complaint.
I would like you to ensure that clean towels are supplied after every swimming session and
rooms are cleaned regularly. If the problem of foul smell can also be tackled by installing
ventilators, we would be grateful to you.I look forward to receiving a prompt response.

other North Indian regions on 13th of January every year. The occasion is associated with crop

The celebration becomes more joyful if there is a new bride or a newborn baby in the family.
Since my brother got blessed with a baby boy two months back, the party is going to be really

Please book the air tickets right away and reach India at least two days prior to the occasion. I

The first issue is that the sink in the kitchen is dripping. Every time we use the sink, it gets
clogged and water starts dripping. It is quite stinky as well. It looks like a drainage system
obstruction. The second concern is that the flush of the bathroom attached with the kids’ room is
out of order. It could either be due to a damaged pipe or hindrance in the flow of water in the
tank.

Both these problems are causing a lot of inconvenience for my family and need your immediate
attention. I request you to look into this matter and take the appropriate action at the earliest
possible.

IELTS Writing Task 1: Complaint Letter

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

A restaurant near your home is making a lot of noise. You called the manager but no action
was taken.

Write a letter to the manager. In your letter

 introduce yourself

 describe the problems you are facing because of this

 suggest solutions

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a resident at the MG Road, and the president of the residential association for the people
living in and around the MG Road. My house is right next to your restaurant.

I am writing to bring it into your notice that we hear a lot of noise coming out from your
restaurant. Loud music being played in the pub and people getting rowdy and creating ruckus
after drinking is a common site these days at your restaurant. And it gets really loud, when it’s
expected to be quieter.

To be honest, I am a bit disappointed. Before writing to you, twice I had a word with the
manager of your restaurant. He told me that he will look into it for me but nothing happened. He
turned a deaf ear, and I feel that was a bit rude of him to do so.

I would like to request you here to curb the sound post 2300 hours and maybe install sound proof
glasses wherever necessary. As you know it’s against the law to play loud music between 22:00
and 07:00.

As well, would really appreciate if you could ask your clients to keep their voices to themselves,
as they tend to get too loud after downing few pints and hire a few bouncers to keep the brawlers
at bay. If everyone liked the same sounds, noise would not be a problem. What’s music to your
ears, your neighbors might dislike.

Looking forward to a positive response and a speedy resolution of my concern. Thanking you, in
anticipation.

Warm Regards

Dalpreet Kaur

 the details of your room and the bag.

 how can one identify the bag?

You should write at least 150 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr. Joshi,

I visited your hotel on 23rd March and stayed in room 342 until 25 March. We had a business
meeting and even booked your hall for the meeting. It was surely a great visit, however, on
reaching home I discovered that I had left one of my bags at the hotel.

The bag is a red color VIP bag with a green color ribbon tied to one of the chains. Although the
bag is locked, the front chain has got a photo of mine along with a photostat of your hotel’s
menu. Even more, there is a calculator and a parker. Although, inside the bag, there are only
clothes of mine, but they do are important especially because I bought them after a lot of cultural
analysis.

I would appreciate if you could check with your lost and found department and inform me if
there is a bag. The clothes are important as I need to wear them for the presentations starting next
week. I would be grateful if you could send them to the airport tomorrow where I could pick
them, services will be payed.

ISSUES IN MUSEUM

You went to a museum with an elderly friend of yours last week and found some issues in
museum. However, she/he found it difficult to walk around in the museum and figure out things.
Write a letter to the manager and say whom

 did you visit the museum with?

 what problems or inconvenience did she or he face?

 suggest a solution that will enhance the museum experience for the elderly people.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,
We have had an immense pleasure in visiting your museum over the last few years. It was because of
this reputation that I invited my grandfather and his friends to visit the museum. It was very obvious to
me that they will love it.

However, it is quite disheartening for me to tell you that there were a couple of issues they faced.Firstly,
there is no order or story to the things displayed in the museum. This made it very difficult for them to
grasp the basic concept of a particular thing displayed.
Secondly, there is very little help available. My grandfather wanted to go to the toilet but could not find
it and when we tried seeking out help, all we got were some confusing answers.

I believe it will be better if the items displayed in the museum have a story to tell making it easier to
understand the significance of the things displayed. Even more, since the space in the museum is too
large, having people to help the elderly in finding things will surely increase the visitors.
Regards,
Avantika

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

Dear Sir/Madam,

Last week I was visited by my grandparents and their friends. To make their stay comfortable, I planned
an evening with them in your museum. Initially, the thought of the museum did excite them, adding to
which was the reputation that your museum holds.

However, with quite a dissatisfaction, I need to tell you that the services in your museum have detoriated
over the years. Firstly, there are not many things to offer in the canteen. For an elderly person, there are
only two options available, tea and coffee. Things like juice or fruits or for that matter, simple things like
dosa ain’t there. This makes exploring the museum very difficult for the elders.
Secondly, there are not many bits of help available. We roamed for around 20 minutes before we could
actually locate the toilet in the museum.

I believe these are not major concerns for the young people. However, when looking at the perspective
of the elderly, these do become big issues. Hope that you will work on them.

Avantika

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Animesh,

Since the day I got selected in the Ottawa University for a four-month intermediate course on
journalism, there has been so much on my plate. The course seems to be very exciting and I hope
there will so much more to learn from it. However, my only concern is that the course is a bit
expensive.
To assist in covering the costs of my study and other expenses, I am planning to take up a part-
time job. There have been few jobs that I was searching for and have given my resumes there but
I am not sure if they will accept.

I was wondering if you could ask among your friends or colleagues if someone is interested in
giving a respectable job to a college student. I know you have a wide social network in Ottawa
which you could canvas for me.

Looking forward to seeing you.

You play in your college cricket team. Last week a member of the team met with an accident and
was not able to play that week. You decide the write a letter telling him about the match.

Write a letter to you friend. In your letter: –

 tell him which team won.

 describe the conditions of the day

 how you felt about the match

You should write at least 150 words.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

1. You need to express sympathy and ask the reader about his or her health.

2. Tell the reader about the score and how you felt about the match

3. Mention the weather conditions

4. Finally, close the letter with good wishes.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Avinash,
I was so sorry to hear about your accident! I hope you are feeling a lot better now and you have
got someone to have fun with in the hospital.

The match that we had on Saturday was amazing. Initially, with a key player like you not being
with us, we all lost hope but then our captain pumped us up for the game. The game began with
the opponent scoring 198 in 20 overs. This was a huge score but the winds and the spirit in the
dressing room, just made it up. Three of our players made a half century and we won with a
closing six from the captain. For some time, we all felt like a movie was going on.

I think the weather was on batsman side. Bowlers were not getting enough swing and the pitch
was also very supportive. Towards the end of the game, there was no help left for the bowlers
than to simply surrender.

Let us know when you are going home and will be fit for the game. All of the team wishes you a
speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Avantika

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ………..

Sample Answer
Dear Asha,

I hope you are doing well. It has been ages since I wrote to you. I was very busy with my board
examinations. It is a big step towards my future. It seems to me as if the whole world is gearing
up for a new beginning with unexpectedly surprising measures.

As for India, we are all demonetizing our ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes to battle black money. The
expected amount to be ‘found’ is around £200 Billion GBP. Just take a moment to soak that all
in. This is a gigantic move for India as sadly there is a lot of bribery and black money handling.
Heck, every single person in India could be a mini millionaire if all of its wealth were to be
distributed equally among its citizens.

Honestly, from my point of view the situation is pretty hilarious. As just yesterday people were
trying to rake in as much money as possible, the bigger notes the better. And just in a matter of
hours people went from gazing lovingly to simply hostilely glaring at bundles of money. Don’t
you think all this is very humorous too?

But enough about my country, what about you? How do you feel about Donald Trump being
elected? What new and unexpected things do you think will happen next?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Sample Answer
Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the inferior quality of a mobile phone which I
bought from your renowned store last week.

The first malfunction that I noticed in the phone was its short battery life. Its battery discharges
within an hour of charging. Apart from that, the device becomes extremely hot when I charge it. I
found another problem when I clicked some photos. Even though this phone has an eight mega
pixel camera, the photos were terribly blurred. Initially, I thought my hand shook while taking
the pictures. But, even after keeping the phone in a fixed position, the same problem persisted.
You can imagine how unhappy I was to discover these technical faults in such an expensive
model.

Naturally, I contacted the store to report the problem. Your representative said that this model
was out of stock and I would have to wait for a week for replacement. Unfortunately, I did not
receive any information about the new stock arrival in the last three weeks. When I called the
representative, he was unable to give a sensible answer to me.

I am very disappointed with both the equipment and the service I have received. Therefore, I
expect a full refund of 30,000 rupees as soon as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you.

You recently took a part time job in a local company. However, after working there for
some time you noticed lot of problem surfacing.

Write a letter to the manager. In your letter

 explain why you took the job.

 what are the problems that you are facing?

 suggest what can be done about it?

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to raise a concern about the problems I am facing at the job in your company. My
name is Avi and you appointed me as a part time counselor three months back. The reason I am
writing is to inform you about the two issues that the reception area is facing, which you are not
aware of.

Firstly, the duty staff of night is not coming regularly, except me and Avan. For the few who do
come there is no regularity and often sleep in the hotel rooms. Last week, a customer came and
we had no rooms to give because the staff had taken hold of four rooms. The matter worsened
when none of them replied when we tried reaching them.

Secondly, the food that is supposed for the customers is being eaten by the staff members. Even
more, the quality of food has deteriorated leading to times when rotten food gets served to
customers.

I hope you will look into this matter as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Avi.

Write about the following topic:

Schools these days focus too much on academic subjects rather than sports.

What are the reasons behind this trend and how it affects children?
Write at least 250 words.
You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer

Educational institutions today are putting a lot of emphasis on academic achievements of

students. This essay will look at the reasons behind this growing inclination towards academics
and its subsequent effects on school children.
One of the main reasons is the parental pressure. Parents believe that in the times of cut-throat
competition, academic achievements alone can promise a secure future. Nowadays, employers
assess young applicants on the basis of their marks and skills. Students with a higher percentage
are often given preference over weak performers. Parents therefore pressurise their kids to do
well in studies.

Another reason is that outstanding results of students give a school an edge over others. Results
have become a parameter which parents consider while getting their children enrolled in a
particular institute. Moreover, majority of the schools these days lack sufficient open space for
outdoor sports like badminton, cricket and football etc. If they focus primarily on educational
outcomes, they can cover-up this shortcoming without compromising their monetary benefits.
This scenario is particularly true in Asian countries.

The enormous pressure exerted by the unduly high expectations of schools and parents has a
detrimental effect on the overall development of young children. It not only renders them
physically unfit but also makes them mentally overworked. Many of them lose their interest in
studies and a few may even drop out of school if they cannot handle it. What is more, in the long
run, students still remain unprepared for the real world of employment. They lack presentation as
well as communication skills which cannot be solely developed by bookish knowledge.

All in all, the focus of schools towards academics can be attributed to parental pressure, lack of
space for sports and other activities and bright business prospects it offers to these institutes.
However, it hampers the rounded development of pupils. I personally feel that instead of
weighing all children on the same scale, individual differences should be respected and strengths
be recognized in order to make them shine.

I am Parag Dutta. I had applied for the Master’s in Social Work (MSW) course in your college.

I am very keen to pursue a Master’s program in Social Work. It would greatly boost my career
growth. But, work commitments have interrupted my plan of studies. I have been working with a
Non-governmental Organization for the past 3 years. Recently, we have started an overseas

Since this course starts in July and I am supposed to leave for Sri Lanka in the first week of

ELTS Cue Card # TV Series

TV is a popular medium of entertainment in the world. This time we are looking at a cue card
that touches upon the favorite television series of the speaker.

Describe a TV series you like.

You should say:

 what the TV series is

 who the actors are

 plot of the series

and explain how you feel about it.

SAMPLE ANSWER

I have watched many television series. As a kid, I liked Dragon Ball z, Pokemon, Lizzie Mcguire
and others. Growing up I fell in love with Suits, Friends, Sherlock Holmes, How I met your
mother and others.

Today, I’m going to speak about one TV series that is still close to my heart. Its name is Sherlock
Holmes. It is the story of a detective, Sherlock Holmes, who along with Dr Watson, his friend,
solves crime mysteries.

Many renowned TV actors have acted in this series. But, I loved the pairing of Benedict
Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson. It’s is perfect. Their co-ordination
and dedication to the mission are commendable.

In every episode of Sherlock Holmes, one can find a new case that comes in front of Watson and
Sherlock and then for the next one and half hours one gets glued to the screen in amazement. The
complications of the plot, the suspense and the way the crime unfolds, all capture my interest.

Coming to how I feel about this series, it’s is a great program. I find it very entertaining and
informative. It gives me a deep insight into the lives of detectives and the risks involved in this
profession. At the same time, it informs me about the intricacies of crime cases and the efforts
required to solve them.

IELTS Essay: Free university education?

October 24, 2017 Pooja Ph.D. CELTA One comment

IELTS Writing task 2 Essay: Free university education?

Write about the following topic.

Students should pay the full cost of their own university studies, rather than having free
education provided by the state.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Write at least 250 words.
You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Sample Answer

In the contemporary world, tertiary education has become paramount. However, a lot of
deserving students are unable to enroll in colleges and universities because of financial
limitations, which is really very sad. The only rescue for such candidates is the free higher
education provided by the government. Some people argue that students must bear the cost of
their university studies instead of utilizing the state funds. But, I disagree with this notion.

First and foremost, the tuition fee in universities is generally high. The cost of
accommodation/hostel, commuting, examinations, books and stationery further add up to the
expenses. Hence, if a person is not from an affluent financial background, it becomes very
difficult for him/her to pursue higher education. Quite often, bright students lose the motivation
to study in colleges or universities and instead start working after completion of secondary
school. This is a serious flaw that deprives young adults of equality of opportunity and promotes
discrimination in society.

Furthermore, tertiary education offers numerous benefits to individuals and society.

College/University graduates have greater intellectual, problem-solving skills and civic
mindedness as compared to their non-college counterparts. Higher economic and job security,
improved standard of living, increased tax revenues and greater workforce productivity are some
other tangible plus points of higher education. These factors are pivotal to the development of
any nation. Free university education to all is therefore justifiable.

To sum up, education is a fundamental right to all. I believe that it should not be obligatory for
scholars to pay their higher education expenses, especially if they are worthy of it. Free
education to the needy is a great encouragement which should be promoted in the future. (277

IELTS ESSAY SAMPLE QUESTIONS # SALARY HIKE

October 22, 2017 Khushboo Leave a comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Directors of large companies often receive much bigger salary increases than ordinary workers.
Employers’ organisations say that in a global market this is necessary to attract the best
management talent.

What are your views?

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer

In the past few years, the corporate sector has witnessed immense growth globally. This progress
has created several job opportunities for professionals in various fields at all levels. When it
comes to salaries, we often see a huge difference between the earnings of the ordinary employees
and top managers. Senior managers usually draw massive salaries whereas the junior and middle
level workers are paid just average amounts.

In my viewpoint, I would agree with the statement that directors should be paid more as
compared to their subordinates. Firstly, their job responsibilities, working skills and problem-
solving attitude are significantly different from that of the other employees of the organization.
Secondly, executive directors and managers are accountable for the profits and losses of their
companies. They have a tight schedule as they have to fulfill their responsibilities within the
given duration. Considering all these factors, I think that the senior managers deserve a higher
payroll.

Moreover, an attractive salary acts as a motivation for the workers as they will also work harder
to reach the top position. Therefore, companies can use this factor for inculcating a sense of
healthy competition among employees. It also helps in getting the best out of them.

To conclude, we can say that it is vital for companies to provide impressive salary hikes to their
directors. This practice motivates the staff to work diligently for reaching higher positions in the
organization.

IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Personal Debts

IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Personal Debts

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.
Many people are using credit cards or loans to run up huge personal debts that they may be
unable to repay. It should, therefore, be made more difficult for individuals to borrow large
amounts of money.
What is your opinion on this?
You should write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer

In present times, banks have become more than just a place for depositing one’s savings or
keeping the valuables. They now offer several other services such as providing loans, issuing
credit cards, facilitating alternative investments and financial management etc. This expansion
has greatly simplified the life of individuals as it offers the independence to be able to do things
at right time, rather than waiting endlessly.

As a result, many people are using credit cards for their day to day transactions and also resorting
to loans for fulfilling their other requirements. Although the easy availability of loans and credit
cards has simplified life, it also has a darker side. It causes huge personal debts to a lot of people.
Hence, it is often argued that banks should change their lending policies, making it more
complex for individuals to borrow huge sums of money. I completely agree with this view.

In my opinion, there must be stringent rules on borrowing hefty amounts as personal debts
eventually result in a burden and make life difficult. Moreover, easy borrowing also encourages
materialism in society by expanding one’s purchasing power. People tend to use their credit cards
or personal loans for unnecessary shopping just to satisfy themselves and later feel troubled in
repaying the amount. Therefore, the concerned authorities must tighten money lending procedure
by revising the terms.

To conclude, I would say that facilities offered by banks are very helpful to people. But, adequate
measures are needed to avoid their misuse.

Sample Answer

Urbanization has become a global phenomenon. Metropolises all over the world are witnessing a
dramatic rise in their populations. In this essay, I will outline the reasons behind this situation
and propose some solutions to tackle it.

The main cause is high levels of migration from the countryside to cities. In developed nations,
rural industries, ranging from agriculture to food production and livestock breeding, have been
automated. As a result, fewer people are required to manage farmland and farm animals. Many
wealthy country dwellers often head towards vibrant cities for a change. In a sharp contrast, mass
migration to urban conurbations in developing nations is fuelled by frequent crop failures,
unemployment and poor rural infrastructure.

Furthermore, millions of countrymen lack access to basic facilities such as healthcare, education,
entertainment and transport etc. They seek a secure livelihood and higher standard of living for
themselves and their children. Undoubtedly, mega cities have a developed infrastructure and
offer a wide range of educational and employment opportunities. All these features attract young
aspirants and job seekers to cities.

The unfettered growth of urban population exerts an enormous pressure on the available
resources in cities. It also causes problems like high property prices, poor sanitation, congestion
and pollution etc. Therefore, effective measures must be taken to curb the influx of people.
Firstly, governments should plan policies for the overall development of the countryside.
Secondly, the excessive dependence on farming should be reduced. For this, other employment
opportunities must be generated in rural areas. This can be done by promoting traditional skills
like pottery making, knitting, weaving and basketry etc. If people can make a decent living in the
countryside, mass migration can be controlled.

To sum up, the causes of this trend are primarily to do with unemployment and underdeveloped
facilities in the countryside. The best solution is to bridge the huge disparity between urban and
rural areas.

My dream house for a very long time has been my grandfather’s place in Almora. It is a detached
house with a large patio from where we can see the Himalayas. On winters, when it is all snowy,
looking at the Himalayas is much more peace than anything in the world. For a long time no one
has been living in that house, but it has two rooms, a big hall, kitchen and other necessities.

I’d like to renovate the house and make it as per my imaginaton. It’d be amazing to have my
study room there. The room has a window, outside of which is a big tree. In the room, I’d prefer
the walls to be painted purple and on the adjacent side of the window would be my study table.
Near to it will be my laptop table. On that table will be my gadgets.

The other room, the bedroom will have a window along with a small table beside my bed. On
that table, I’d prefer having novels that I will read before going to bed. On a larger scale, my
ideal house is the one with books, media and bike. The reason I call it my ideal house is because
of the memories attached with this house and the perfect location that it is in. Living in the house
gives me a perfect balance of being a traveller and a homely person.

IELTS Essay # Child Labour

November 23, 2016 Chief Editor One comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Child Labour is a major concern all over the world.
What are the causes of it?
How can the problem be solved?
Write at least 250 words.
SAMPLE ANSWER

Child labor has been an international concern as it damages, destroys and spoils the present and
the future of not only the child but of a country. A child is the hope of a nation and yet when
millions of them are deprived of a carefree childhood, it directly impacts the growth of the
country. Although, child labor is common in most of the parts of the world, it is more often faced
in the developing and underdeveloped sections.

There are several reasons for forcing a child into work. Firstly, it increases the family income. A
family which is finding it difficult to make its need meet, is more likely to send their child to
work then to school. Secondly, a child labour is more likely to work at lower wages, which is
exactly more factories are likely to hire them. Even more, a child is less likely to indulge in
dishonesty and is less liable to misbehave or be violent, which is what makes them perfect for
domestic aid.
Although, it might seem that the issue of child labour can never be solved, there are several way
in which we can surely fight the issue. Firstly, the government needs to make sure that the laws
made are strictly adhered. Even more, the general public should be made aware of the severe
consequences of child labor. Secondly, an increase in employment opportunity for adults would
help in overcoming the issue of poverty which is more likely to reduce the number of children
being forced into labor work.

Overall, it is not only the responsibility of government to ensure that number of child labours are
reduced. But every educated person of a country to ensure that the children of the country get a
bright future, a future that every child deserves to have. (301 Words)

You should write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Home is the one place everyone wants to go after a long tired journey, be the journey of
everyday office or of something as exciting as going on a world tour. But, there are so many
people all around the world that are deprived of a beautiful comfortable home. There are people
who need to live in sheds across the the roads and even worse some don’t even have that.

Many people across the world have left their homes in search of jobs in different parts of the
country or world. While it is easy to leave the house, it is not very easy to get a job, leaving
people homeless and jobless. There are even some children who shed away their responsibility of
parents and send them to home shelters. These people are not only deprived of the love and care
they deserve when they get old but also of the home they have built in their lives.
Even more, there has been an increase in the crime rate all over the world. With the number of
children being kidnapped all over the world, they are being forced into beggary or prostitution,
taking away their home and beautiful life. In addition, with wars happening around the world,
there are so many people who lose their accommodation and have to live in the refugee camps
before any country accepts them. Sometimes this wait is only for some years while other times it
extends to life time. Other factors such as natural calamities also play a role in taking away the
homes.

Overall, surely there has been an increase in the number of people losing their accommodation. It
not only causes them physical pain but as well mental agony. In my opinion, the government
should surely take initiatives to ensure that more and more people have stable homes to live in.

the money, people are not ready to give them home, leaving them homeless.

IELTS Essay # Juvenile Delinquency

May 22, 2016 IELTS Research Leave a comment

Write an essay in about 250 words on “Youth Crime” and discuss the reasons and best
possible solutions of the problem.

One of the disquieting problems faced by today’s world is – Youth Crime or juvenile
delinquency. It is also known as “juvenile offending”. When a minor or individual younger than
the statutory age of majority, participates in illegal behavior, then it falls under the category of
youth crime. It is highly disturbing that the rate of such crimes is increasing alarmingly. Not
only in India but around the globe it is spreading its tentacles to enforce criminal activities
which lead to an unstable society. Robbery, rape, drug dealing, murders etc. are some of the
horrible faces of youth crimes. In this essay, I will examine the reasons behind this worrying
trend and propose some solutions.

Recent psychological studies have revealed that 6-16% of male teens and 2-9% female teens are
suffering from conduct disorders which drag youths towards such heinous crimes. These
disorders can vary from oppositional-defiant disorder (which may not be aggressive in nature) to
antisocial personality disorder. Both of them can develop during childhood. But strangely, only
6% of the youth criminals are habitual offenders.

Another reason behind this increasing rate is the higher aspiration of today’s youth and the
desire of a luxurious life. Of course, in case of sexual crimes it is the psychological disorder
which is the major reason. Not to mention that nuclear families, education system and highly
career oriented parents who do not have time to keep an eye on the moral development of their
offspring are some other leading contributors.

The world has to be sensitive enough to deal with this challenge. More juvenile courts are to be
established and a stringent law is the need of the hour. At educational institutions, psychological
counseling facilities should be available and more attention should be paid on the moral
development of children, especially teenagers. Rehabilitation process should be up to the mark.
Moreover, youth is the most imperative section of our society so for the unblemished future
this generation should be morally uplifted.

To sum up, a combination of factors have made our young minds offenders. However, I believe
that if we join our hands together, we can make the world a safer place for everyone.

IELTS Essay Sample Answer # Class

March 20, 2016 Chief Editor Leave a comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

These days, many children have difficulty paying attention and concentrating in their
classes at school.

What are the reasons for this?

How can it be dealt with?

Write at least 250 words.

In recent times, teachers have observed that children are less likely to pay attention in the class.
This has resulted in a decrease in the quality of teaching methods, as often teachers believe that
their efforts are being wasted.

One of the major reason for this is the growing market of coaching classes. Most of the students
take tuition classes for the subjects, being taught. This creates an environment, that no matter
what the teacher is teaching, they will learn it later on in the coaching class. To solve this
problem, the quality of teachers must be improved and also a belief must be brought among
them, that school education is enough for them to do well in life.
Another reason for the distraction among children is that, teachers are now not allowed to take
strong disciplinary actions. As a result, often children do whatever they want to, because they
know the limits of the teacher. Even more, researchers believe that this might be possible
because of the unhealthy diet that people are taking. The issue can be solved by allowing
teachers to take more strict actions, and yet maintain a limit. Also, parents must take proper care
on what the children are eating.

Overall, children are facing issues in concentrating in class because of lack of discipline or more
faith in coaching classes. However, if proper time and consideration from teachers and children
are given, it is possible to bring back children attention in class.

IELTS Writing Sample Answer # Lack Of Water

November 12, 2015 Chief Editor Leave a comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

A serious problem affecting people right across the globe is lack of water for drinking,
washing and other household purpose.

Why do many countries face water shortage, and what could be done to solve the issue?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Water, in present times, has come up as a great issue, with most of the countries across world
facing shortage of water. Although in present times, most people do have water, the day when
one will have to fight for water are not far.

One of the major reason for the water shortage is, people often tend to waste water. For instance,
it is a common sight to see people leaving the tap open while brushing teeth or cleaning face.
Even more, some people tend to wash their clothes in river water leaving the water dirty and of
little use in later. To solve this problem, the government could bring more awareness among
people regarding the importance of water. Even more, the people in their daily routine, must take
steps to save water.
lack of water

Another reason for the scarcity of water is the unequal distribution of water. It has been seen that,
the water supply to the minister and other celebrities is more regulated than to the common
person. As a result, the poor is often left with no water or very little water for day to day use. The
problem could be addressed by supplying more water to the poor, equalising the amount of water
among all.

To sum up, although it is clear the world is facing an acute problem, it is undoubtedly possible to
start to tackle these issues, and improve the quality of life. Governments and local councils must
take the lead in dealing with the issue, otherwise life will only get worse in the future.

Prevalent Stressful Jobs # Essay For IELTS

October 24, 2015 Chief Editor Leave a comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

In today’s world more and more people are working longer and taking up more stressful jobs.
What causes this? How can employer’s make the workers life easier?

Write at least 250 words.

In today’s world, life has changed significantly. With the market becoming more competitive,
people are forced to work more and take up stressful life in order to cope up. Some people assert
that this issue has become the serious topic in the modern world, leaving people emaciated and
more materialistic.

The main reason behind it is that the number of younger graduates have increased dramatically
these days, but unfortunately the employment rate is still almost the same as the last ten years. As
a result, if workers want to keep up with their jobs, they need to work more and keep up with
their knowledge and skills to be more professional, otherwise they will be fired or would be
forced to quit.

Secondly, the dependence on technology has made people live more stressful lives. Having the
technological devices, it means that people can work remotely and have to hold their work
responsibilities all the time. This means they need to answer phone calls or emails without any
excuse, even during holidays.

However, there are certain steps that can help to tackle the issue. Firstly, organizations must
provide training to the employees about some useful strategies for their work and educate them
about how to manage work effectively will definitely help workers to be more productive in their
performances and also save their time. Secondly, offering stress management sessions should be
provided.

Overall, the phenomenon of working more is prevalent and cannot be avoided but it must be
made sure that one maintains a balance between their work and life.

Museums And Historical Sites # Essay For IELTS

October 24, 2015 Chief Editor Leave a comment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

It is often seen that many museums and historical sites are visited more by the tourist rather
than local people. What are the reasons and what can be done to attract more and more
people to visit these places?

Write at least 250 words.

Although travelling has become more prevalent around the world, it is true that more and more
people prefer visiting countries outside rather their own. t is certainly true that many museums
and historical places these days do not attract the number of local residents anymore.

The primary reason is that local people do not have interest in seeing around these places, as they
are not attracted by historical places that they are familiar to their culture backgrounds. For
instance, there are great places to visit in Uttarakhand, India, but still people living near it, never
visit the place in their lives and the tourism of the place is running merely because of people
coming from across the world.

Secondly, people often like to visit new places, and for some reasons, the idea of travelling
means travelling outside the place you live in. As a result, when people do get time to travel they
prefer trying out places outside their city or country.

However, in my opinion, the best solution to attract native people, is by creating campaigns
aiming at encouraging native people to visit these places. Also, redecoration of the place can
make can also make local people to be more interested in the activities. In addition, giving local
people certain discounts while visiting these places, could act as a lucrative offer to attract them.

Overall, people do love to travel and if proper steps are taken to ensure increased native
travelling, authorities need to make sure they either provide offers or do something grand in the
site.
