1. PREPARING FOR DOWNLOADING

This section lists the actions you should take before downloading any ICU
software updates.

1.1 Before you start

Check that you have all necessary software components to perform the
update (Probe_x_xx_x.abs, Main_x_xx_x.abs, Exp_x_xx_x.abs,
Parameter Manager application installation CD).
Check the applicable Courier software versions document to make sure
that all software components are compatible also after the download.

a If you are not sure of the compatibility, do not perform the update.

a Always stop the sample measurements in the analyzer before any

software updates.

1.2 Communication connections and tools

The application software updates are downloaded using the Parameter
Manager application. No other communication connections or software tools are
needed.

1.3 Rebooting in download mode

Before starting to download the application update, reboot the ICU in download
mode:

1. Turn the Boot mode switch (SW10) into the LOAD position (away from the
board).

2. Turn the Manual reset switch (SW1) away from board and release the
switch to restart the ICU.

f If there are several ICUs to update, you can first reboot them all in the
download mode and then download the updates one after another.

The analyzer system does not operate normally during the application download
process of any of the ICUs. Ignore all indications of alarms or “normal” looking
operation on the PCS display during the download process. Resume the normal
operation of the analyzer after the download.

2. DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE UPDATES

2.1 Downloading
To download application software updates:

1. Copy the needed files (*.abs) containing the new application software into
the abs folder.
2. Start the Parameter Manager application in support mode.
3. In the Control menu, select Flash ICU.

4. In the ICU down loader window, click Open and select the xxx.abs file for
the ICU you want to update. The node is automatically selected based on
the xxx.abs file for probe and main controller. If you have more than one
expansion controllers, select the appropriate expansion controller.
5. Make sure that the Clear RAM checkbox is selected and click Download.

A status indicator window shows the progress of the download.

When the status indicator window disappears, and the status text (---) in the
down loader window changes to Done, the download is successfully completed.
6. Repeat these steps for all other ICUs that require updating.

2.2 Rebooting in normal mode

To boot all ICUs, which were booted in download mode, in normal application
mode:
1. Turn the Boot mode switch (SW10) into the RUN position (towards the
board).
2. Turn the Manual reset switch (SW1) away from board and release the
switch to restart the ICU.

a Always close all enclosures and doors of the analyzer if you leave the
immediate vicinity of the analyzer.

3. DOWNLOADING PARAMETERS
A full parameter download is needed after downloading an application software
update to any of the ICUs.

The previously used version of the Parameter Manager application may

not be compatible with the new ICU application software version(s). If
necessary, update the Parameter Manager application and transfer the
previously used parameter values into the new application.

To download the parameters:

1. Start the Parameter Manager application and select the parameter
download function.

Verify the communication connection to all ICUs - probe, main (controller) and
expansion controllers (Exp1,… Exp6) – used in the system. If any of the ICUs is
indicated as Not connected, close the parameter load window and open it
again.

2. Check the application software versions of the ICUs shown in the window.
The needed extent of parameter load (3) should be Full parameter
load.
3. Download the parameters.
4. When the parameter download is complete, the analyzer automatically
returns to normal operation. Restart the sample measurements.
