Answer any five of the followings

2 ) (a) Give a list of various loads which are to be considered for structural strength calculations of a
tanker.
(b) Justify with reason why longitudinal framing system of construction is preferred for most tankers
instead of transverse framing system. (7+7)

3) Draw outline sketch of a submersible pump and explain how it operates including cargo stripping and
cofferdam purging system. (14)

4) Write in detail about Schedule for phasing out of single hull tankers in detail along with the different
categories and dates for each according to IMO. (14)

a) Minimum amidship draft with segregated ballast
b) Maximum trim by stern with segregated ballast
c) Approximate ford. & aft. drafts in segregated ballast condition
d) Minimum width of double side (i.e. distance of cargo space from side shell plate)
e) Minimum depth of double bottom (i.e. distance of cargo space from bottom shell plate)

8) Explain in short and with layout diagram the rule requirements, design criteria & capacity of
inert gas system on Oil Tanker Vessels to avoid explosion risks. (14)
