Description Physical Properties*

Silica Fume (Mircosilica) is composed of silicon dioxide
(SiO2), collected from silicon metal and ferrosilicon Property Typical Results
produced, as unidentified form. Color of silica fume is
SiO2 >92%
from gray white to gray. For greater convenience, Kenal
densified silica fume with twice the bulk density. Moisture < 3%
Densified silica fume is more economical for
transportation, as its higher density allows bulk handling Loss on Ignition < 6%
methods, and reduced shipping cost Bulk Density 0.55 – 0.70 T/m3

Uses
 Silica fume is ideal for use in structures exposed
to chemical and environmental attack, such as
Parking garages, Bridge decks, Marine structures,
Slabs, Roadways etc.
 In precast concrete (made in a manufacturing
environment) it is more efficient, and results in
cost and Timesaving, it has High early and higher
ultimate compressive strengths, Eliminates steam
curing, Savings on heating costs and rapid
turnover of forms.
 In shotcrete applications, there is less material
waste and greater efficiency of product use.
 It has High electrical resistively and
impermeability, Significantly less rebound loss,
Mitigates reinforcing steel corrosion, improved
bonding strength, thicker applications with each
nozzle pass.

Dosage
Usually, the dosage of silica fume is 5-10%. If used with
GGBS etc. mineral additive, the dosage of total mineral
additive may be not exceeding 50%.
Packing
950 or 1000 KG bags.
Precautions
Store inside or outside should be properly situated away
from incompatible materials, i.e., strong acids. Avoid
prolonged or repeated skin contact. Avoid freezing. Avoid
contact with the eyes, skin and clothing. Wash thoroughly
after handling. Keep out of reach of children.
Health & Safety
As with all chemical products, caution should always
be exercised. Protective clothing, such as gloves and
goggles, should be worn. See packaging/MSDS for
specific instructions.
Treat any splashes to the skin or eyes with fresh water
immediately. Should any of the products be accidentally
swallowed, do not induce vomiting, but call for medical
assistance immediately.
