“TO DO LIST” Upon Arrival to a


New Duty Station

You should put many things on your “To Do List”:

1. Contact the installation School Liaison Officer to obtain information on registration


requirements and about the schools in the community.

2. Figure out where to register while in temporary housing and determine how to
avoid changing schools when moving from temporary to permanent quarters.

3. Verify policy on attending out of county/district schools. There may be an out of


county/district tuition fee.

4. Check the geographic boundaries for the various schools off post.

5. Consider before and after school childcare needs. Find out what kinds of after
school programs/activities are available.

6. Visit the school, ask for a tour of the facility, meet the staff, and ask questions.

7. Take documentation and copies of school records to school.

8. Ask about the school program - average class size, accreditation level, use of
technology, special education program, school safety, transportation.

9. Ask about parental participation in the educational process.

10. In- and out-process through the CYS, SLO, and the schools.
