1. Planning Information

A. Effectivity

This service bulletin is applicable to the following turbofan aircraft engine.

B. Reason

The maximum continuous thrust and takeoff thrust ratings marked on the engine nameplate
on identified engines are less than the current approved thrust ratings of the CFE738-1-1B.

C. Description

This service bulletin provides instructions to remove the engine nameplate and install a new
engine nameplate which shows the current approved thrust ratings.

D. Compliance

Recommended. The CFE Company recommends that this service bulletin be accomplished
within 300 engine operating hours after receipt of service bulletin or at first access to affected
parts, whichever occurs first.

E. Approval

The change to the engine type design authorized by this service bulletin complies with appli-
cable Federal Aviation Regulations and is FAA approved.

F. Manhour Requirements

An estimated one manhour is required to accomplish this change after access to part is
obtained.

2. Accomplishment Instructions

NOTE: Publications listed in Section 1 provide applicable disassembly, cleaning,


inspection, reassembly, and testing instructions and shall be referred to
during the accomplishment of the following instructions.

A. Remove the Engine Nameplate

(1) The following items are required:

- Blind Rivet Gun or Blind Rivet Hand Setting Tool

- Air Drill

- Drill Bit
0.125 inch

- Center Punch

- Flat File
Smooth Cut

(2) Remove the aircraft components necessary to access the engine nameplate installation
on the engine. Refer to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

(3) Locate the engine nameplate on the front frame assembly of the engine.
(See Figure 1.)

(a) Engines Serial No. 105106 through 105155, the engine nameplate is located at
11 o’clock (aft looking forward) on the front frame assembly.

(b) Engines Serial No. 105156 and subsequent, the engine nameplate is located at
7 o’clock (aft looking forward) on the front frame assembly.

(4) Remove the engine nameplate from the front frame assembly.

(a) Remove the rivets (10) that attach the nameplate (20) to the front frame
assembly.

1 Use the center punch to mark the center on each rivet (10).

CAUTION: DRILL DEPTH INTO FRONT FRAME CASTING MUST


NOT EXCEED 0.26 INCH (6.6 MM) ON ENGINES
SERIAL NO. 105156 AND SUBSEQUENT.

2 Drill out the locking collar and stem of each rivet (10) using the air drill with a
0.125 inch drill bit. On Engines Serial No. 105156 and subsequent, the drill
depth into the front frame casting must not exceed 0.26 inch (6.6 mm).

(b) Remove the nameplate (20) from the front frame assembly.

2. B. Install the New Engine Nameplate

NOTE: Verify new nameplate information is the same as old nameplate with the
exception that the thrust ratings should read:

Takeoff (5 minutes) 5937 lbs


Maximum Continuous 5613 lbs

(1) Install the engine nameplate on the engine. (See Figure 1.)

(a) Install the nameplate (20) on the front frame assembly.

(b) Install the rivets (10) to attach the nameplate (20) to the front frame assembly.
Use a blind rivet gun or blind rivet hand setting tool to install the rivets. The
rivets must meet the requirements of the blind rivets in 70-13-04 in the Standard
Practices Manual.

(c) Trim sharp points from the stems of the installed rivets (10) with the flat file. Use
care not to damage the locking collars in the rivets.

(2) Make entry in engine log book noting date of compliance, engine operating time and
compliance with this service bulletin (and service bulletin revision number if applicable).

(3) Reidentification of equipment is not required.

(4) Complete Compliance Certificate form and mail. Contact local CFE company autho-
rized service center to obtain forms, if required.

(5) Return the old nameplate to the CFE Company, FAA Project Leader, Quality Assurance
Dept 84-10, 111 South 34th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034.

3. Material Information

NOTE: Applicable illustrated parts catalogs and spare parts bulletins dated later than
the original issue date of this service bulletin may introduce different parts for
installation. Refer to these documents before ordering parts.
