2 Composition of the Community Equity Committee

4 The Board shall invite parent, student, educational, faith, and

5 community groups to nominate representatives. Community
6 Equity Committee members shall serve two-year staggered
7 terms, with a limit of two terms. Half of the members will be
8 randomly assigned to one-year terms to establish staggered
9 terms.

11 The Board will review nominations and select up to 40

12 representatives to serve on the Committee. The annual
13 election/appointment process shall be as follows:
14 • The Board will open the nomination period at their second
15 meeting in June.
16 o No group shall nominate more than five (5) individuals
17 to the committee.
18 • The Board will close nominations at their first regular Board
19 meeting in August.
20 • The Board will hold elections at their second regular Board
21 meeting in August.
22 o During this meeting, the Board shall cast ballots as
23 follows:
24  All Board Members will be handed a ballot with
25 the names of all valid nominations.

 1  All Board Members will vote by circling the
2 name(s) of the nominees on the ballot they wish
3 to be elected to the Committee.
4 • Each Board Member is limited in their
5 number of votes to the number of vacant
6 spots on the Committee.
7 • Board Members can only vote for an
8 individual once regardless of the number of
9 votes they are eligible to cast in total.
10 • Board Members are not required to cast any,
11 or all, votes available to them.
12 o Once all ballots are cast, the Board Clerk and two
13 others assigned by the Board Chair will tally the votes
14 from the ballots cast by the Board Members.
15 o Each nominee that receives votes on the majority of
16 the ballots shall be appointed to the Committee.
17 • For the inaugural appointment process in 2019, the election
18 dates shall be as follows:
19 o August 23rd, 2019 – Nominations Open
20 o September 24th, 2019 – Nominations Close
21 o October 8th, 2019 – Board Elects Inaugural Committee

23 The Equity Committee will meet at least once per quarter.

24 Members missing three consecutive meetings will be considered
25 inactive and will be replaced. Each year-long session of the
26 Committee will terminate on August 31st.

2 In addition, the Committee will include:

3 - One Board of Education member selected by the Board
4 Chair who will serve ex officio. This member is limited to
5 two two-year terms.
6 - One staff member designated by the Superintendent
7 (non-voting liaison)
