1. Planning Information
A. Effectivity
(1) This service bulletin is applicable to the turbofan aircraft engines shown in Table 2.
Table 2. Applicable Engine(s)
Serial
PN Model Number Number Application
3050000-5 CFE738-1-1B All Falcon 2000
B. Concurrent Requirements
C. Reason
(1) Problem:
(a) Several fan inlet housings have experienced loss of abradable fan blade rub
strip material while in service. The loss of material exceeded the maximum
allowable repair limits leading to rejection and replacement of the fan inlet
housing.
(2) Background:
(a) Fan inlet housings, PN 3050190-3, -4, -5 may experience disbonding of
the subsurface aluminum honeycomb core. Disbonding may result in the
movement of the abradable fan blade rub strip toward the engine centerline
during engine operation, causing contact with the fan blades and heavy loss of
abradable fan blade rub strip material.
(3) Action:
(a) CFE Company has introduced a new fan inlet housing, PN 3050190, that
incorporates a phosphoric anodize process during manufacturing. This
process provides improved bonding of the honeycomb core and the abradable
rub strip to the aluminum housing.
(b) Revision 1 of this service bulletin introduces new fan inlet housing, PN
3050190-7 that uses a chromic anodize process which also provides an
improvement in the bonding of the honeycomb core and abradable rub strip
to the aluminum housing. The fan inlet housing, PN 3050190-7 has a silver
coloration versus the gold coloration of earlier versions due to the different
anodizing processes. The abradable rub strip is also different for the fan inlet
housing, PN 3050190-7, which has a light blue coloration; the material was
chosen for improved reparability.
D. Description
(1) This service bulletin provides instructions for replacement of fan inlet housing, PN
3050190-3, -4, -5 with PN 3050190-6 or PN 3050190-7.
