Thyroid Lab Tests (Optimal Ranges vs Normal 

Ranges & Where you Want your Labs to be) 
 
How to use this resource:

- Get a complete set of thyroid labs (listed below).  

- Compare your results to those of the “optimal range” and not the “normal” range.  
- If you have a combination of abnormal lab results + the symptoms of 
hypothyroidism then you should seek out a knowledgeable thyroid doctor (​use 
this resource to help​) to determine if you need treatment.  

Complete Set of Thyroid Lab tests Include:

❏ TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) 

❏ Free T3 (Triiodothyronine, free) 
❏ Free T4 (Thyroxine, free) 
❏ Reverse T3 (Triiodothyronine, reverse) 
❏ Total T3 (Total triiodothyronine) 
❏ Thyroglobulin Antibody 
❏ Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody 
 
If you have not had a complete thyroid lab test in the past then you should start with this 
set of labs. You do not need to order these labs each and every time, but you should if 
you have never had them tested before.

Optimal vs Normal Levels:  

 
 

If you determine that your results are abnormal then you have the option to either ​treat with
