GigE Network adapter setup

Follow this setup to configure network interface correctly.

The recommended network card is an INTEL PRO/1000 CT PCI-Express adaptor.

Windows 7 provides drivers, but it is recommended to use Windows Update to update the drivers
after installation. It is possible that a manual “Check for updates” must be selected.

Overview
 Enable jumbo packets.
 Set interrupt moderation rate to extreme.
 Set receive buffers to max.
 Turn off any power saving features.

Configure network adapter settings

Do the following steps on Windows 7 to setup network interface:

 Go to 'Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center' and click on the

adapter that is designated for image acquisition (e.g. Local Area Connection 2).

 Turn off ”Reduce link speed during standby”.

Setup static IP
The camera is configured to use a static IP address. Therefore the network adaptor must also be
setup to use a static IP address (Warning don't do this to the adaptor you expect is responsible for
your internet connection).

 Go to 'Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center' and click on the
adapter that is designated for image acquisition (e.g. Local Area Connection 2).

 (The window is probably still open, double click 'Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)'
select ‘use the following IP’, Set the IP and subnet mask as specified below and click OK.

Firewall
Firewall for the network adapter connected to the camera, must be disabled, so communication
with the camera is possible.
Follow the instructions in the “VideometerLab and Windows Firewall.pdf” guide.

Check camera communication

 Start 'JAI Control Tool' from the Windows Start menu. Your camera(s) should be listed in
the left pane.

 Click the camera to connect, and press 'Start Acquisition'. The camera should now take
images in its default configuration; it might not be possible to see anything, since the
Strobecontroller for the Videometer Lab hardware is not synchronizing before the
Videometer Lab software has been started.

 In the bottom part of the window, the fps counter should show a number greater than 0 if
any images are arriving and timestamp should continuously change.
