The Problem

The proponents were given a task to gather a data in Mindanao State

University concerning the usual daily allowance of the grade 11 students of the

Senior High School Department. Each proponent have settled to use the quota

sampling method and the quota that was needed to satisfy the task is a

population size of 110 students. The sections that the proponents had chosen

for the population of the quota sampling are: Ganymede, Titan and lastly,

Callisto. The gathering of data occured on 5th of April 2019. The proponents

gave a survey form to each class for them to fill up.

Specifically, the proponents are tasked to assign a random variable to

represent the daily allowance of the students in pesos and construct the

corresponding probability mass function. To graphically summarize and

display the distribution, the data will be presented though a histogram. The

mean , variance, and standard deviation of the population size of 110 are also

computed.

The proponents are also tasked to use simple random sampling and select

40 students within the 110 population size and compute its mean, variance,

and standard deviation. The computed population parameters and sample

statistics are compared and the results are interpreted

Fig. 1 Gathered Data

The figure above (Fig. 1) shows the daily allowance of Grade 11 students

of Mindanao State University-Senior High School Department from sections

Ganymede, Titan, and Callisto with a population size of 110. As the collection

of data concluded, the proponents have observed that the highest daily

allowance is 400 Pesos and the lowest is 40 Pesos. Overall, the proponents

have 16 different random variables of the usual daily allowance of a student.

Later, the proponents calculated the probability distribution of the collected

data from the students of the said sections and assigned the variable ( x ) as

the daily allowance of the students and P (x ) as the probability of the

daily allowance. Here are the results:

Fig. 2 Probability Distribution Table

The figure above (Fig. 2) shows that there are [5] random variables that

only have the probability of 1/110 or about 0.9%. [4] random variables that only
have a probability of 2/110 or about 1.8%, [1] random variable that only have

the probability of 3/110,12/110, 13/110,16/110, and 37/110 or about 27.2%,

10.9%,11.8%,14.5%, and 33.6% respectively.

Afterwards, the proponents computed for the mean, variance, and

standard deviation of the collected data from the population size of 110 using

the following formulas:

   x  P( x)  2   [ P( x)  ( x   ) 2 ]   [ P( x)  ( x    ] 

The mean or the average of the usual daily allowance of a student from the

said sections is 116.05. The variance of the data set is 2860.04. Lastly, the

standard deviation of the data set is 53.48.

In accordance to the data that the proponents gathered last 5 th of April

2019, the proponents uncovered that 59% of the students from the said

sections has a usual daily allowance below the mean which is 116.05, and

41% of the students has a usual daily allowance above the mean.
