2 Composition of the Community Equity Committee

4 Section I – Committee Organization
5 Community groups and individuals are encouraged to nominate and serve on The
6 Community Equity Committee “Committee”. The Committee will begin each annual
7 session on July 1st of the calendar year and remain in place until the following June
8 30th. The Committee will be made up of no more than 42 individuals consisting of
9 up to 40 members appointed by the Board, one member appointed by the Chair of
10 the Board of Education, and one member appointed by the Superintendent. All
11 members shall serve two-year, staggered terms, with a limit of two terms per
12 member.

14 Section II – Appointment Process
15 The appointment process for electing members of the Committee is broken into
16 four parts:
17 A. The Chair of the Board of Education shall appoint one member of the Board
18 of Education.
19 B. The Superintendent shall appoint one CMS employee to serve as the staff
20 liaison to the Committee. This member of the Committee will be a non-voting
21 member.
22 1. This member of the Committee is not limited to a length of term as the
23 other members are and will serve until such time as the
24 Superintendent replaces them.
25 C. In odd numbered years, the nine members of the Board of Education and the
26 student advisor to the Board, may each nominate two individuals to serve on
27 the committee.
28 1. The Board shall hold elections for the nominees listed in Section II Part
29 C at their first meeting in May of every odd-numbered year.
30 D. In even numbered years, the Board of Education may appoint up to twenty
31 members to the Committee. The election calendar for the members
32 appointed under this section shall be as follows:
33 1. The Board will open nominations at their second meeting in March of
34 every even-numbered year.

1 2. The Board will close the nomination period at their second meeting in
2 April of every even-numbered year.
3 3. The Board shall hold elections from these nominees at their first
4 meeting in May of every even-numbered year.
5 4. Nominees must receive a majority vote of the Board Members present
6 to be elected to serve on the Committee.

8 Section III – Meetings
9 The Equity Committee will meet at least once per quarter. Members missing three
10 consecutive meetings will be considered inactive and will be replaced.

12 Section IV – Inaugural Appointment Dates
13 For the inaugural appointment process in 2019, the election dates shall be as
14 follows:
15 A. For appointments made under Section II Part C, elections will be held at the
16 Board’s regular meeting on October 8th, 2019.
17 B. For appointments made under Section II Part D, the election process will
18 follow the schedule below:
19 1. August 23rd, 2019 – Nominations Open
20 2. September 24th, 2019 – Nominations Close
21 3. October 8th, 2019 – Board Elects Members of the Committee
