“CATHOLIC TEACHINGS”

The entire life of Jesus is an uninterrupted exercise of his triple role of

mediation as a king, prohet and priest. He is the mediator of the new and enternal
covenant . His mediation is absolutely necessary because as He said ; “No one
comes to the father exept through me”{Jn 14:6} and because “there is no
salvation through anyone else ,nor is there any others name under heaven given
to the human race by which we are to be saved” {Act 4:12}. His mediation is
universal and unique, because any others mediator is but an instrument of
Christ’s singular mediation {Cf.F.Ocariz ,L.F. Mateo Seco ,and J.A Riestra, 1994}.

Christ is the sole mediator and Priest .Becaue He is true God , He intercedes
for us with the father , and because He is true man, He is our high Priest who
presides in our earthly liturgy.

In his encyclical letter mysterium fidei, Pope Paul VI enumerates the presence
of Christ in the church :

1.Christ is present in the church when she prays .He prays for us as our priest
,He prays In us as our Heads .He is prayed to be by us as our god.

2.Christ is present in the the church as she perfoms her works of mercy. He is the
one who performs these works through the church and who continuously helps
men and women with his divine love.

3.Christ is present in the church as she moves along on her pilgrimage with a
longing to reach the portals of eternal life.

4.Christ is present in the church as she preaches since the Gospel which she
proclaims is the words of gods.

5.Christ is present in the church as she rules and governs the people of god ,since
her sacred power comes from him and since he, the “Shepherd of Shepherd,’’ is
present in the bishop who exercise that power .

6.Christ present in the liturgy of the church as she administers the sacraments.

7.Moreover ,Christ is present in his church in a still more sublime manners as she
offers the sacrifices of the mass in his name .the divine founders of church I present
in the mass both in the person of his minister and above all.—really and
sacramentally present --- under the Eucharistic species.
“In the follows the every liturgical celebration, because it is an action of christ
the priest and of his body which is the church,is sacred action surpassing all
others ; no others action of the church can equal its efficacy by the same litle
and to the same degree”{SC7}There could be no action greater than the liturgy
because It is an action of both Christ and the church , and the church , and
because it both signifies and product our sanctification .

The catechism emphazises the Christ is the priest in the liturgy “the liturgy is the
work of the whole Christ ,head and body .our high priest celebrates ,it
unceasingly in the heavenly liturgy ,with the holy mother of god the apostles, all
the saint and the multitude of those who have already entered the kingdom”
{CCC 1187} .
