STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVE

After completing my B.E. (Industrial and Manufacturing) from National University of Science
and Technology Karachi ,Pakistan .I am writing this letter to express my interest in Masters in
Engineering in Supply chain Management (SCM) at MIT's Global SCALE Network. I have picked
this field since it expands upon the scholastic work that I have effectively done; and I feel that this
territory of study will best set me up for understanding my long haul objectives working in global
environment. My training so far has impressed me to a great degree in a way that logistics and
supply chain have come to be of such foundational significance for the profit maximization of best
organizations, particularly those that work on an international level.
As an graduate student, major subjects of my interest included Manufacturing Processes, Work
study and Method Engineering ,Total quality Management and Technical writing which plays a
vital role for any engineer’s success in the field. While studying at NUST University, I realized
that graduate studies had only exposed me to the fundamental knowledge of this field, and there
was a lot more to learn. In summer 2012, I was enroll as an internee in Sanofi Pharmaceuticals
where I studied and worked on the overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
Works of renowned industrial engineers have always fascinated me. Taiichi Ohno and W. Edwards
Deming were two people who inspired me a great deal while I was studying in my Bachelors.
Taiichi Ohno’s clever application of Lean Manufacturing and efficient warehousing, was
inspirational for me, he changed the course of in-house production and typical Practices used in
Large-scale manufacturing industry. From this concept I introduced Just in time Principle in Millet
Equipment which increased their efficiency by 15% .At Millet equipment the principle of
producing all equipment parts beforehand and storing them was followed , I introduced the
production techniques on which critical parts (parts with more lead-time) to be produced
beforehand and non-critical parts production done on order basis.
As for my tenor in National Paints, I was part of the team responsible for optimization and
productivity improvements within different departments of value chain. While working in National
Paints, I analyzed the communication and operations gaps, which lead to business loss, making
the departments of Production, Warehouse, Logistics and Procurement to suffer .These problems
can addressed by practicing the different strategies to optimize supply chain.
Throughout my career, I have strived for change towards the betterment of the company while
working on the implementation of ERP system within the organization I came across some grey
areas. The Micromaster in SCM helped me understand the collaboration of different modules
within a company. I realized that simple Micromaster in SCM would not provide me the necessary
tools for improvements. Therefore, I have decided to apply for the Masters in Engineering in
Logistics and Supply chain Management at MIT's Global SCALE Network, so I can get in depth
knowledge and became a better strategic Leader and decision maker to drive change within the
organization later in my career.
