Linux Containers (LXC)

Linux Containers (LXC) is a lightweight virtualization solution that enables running multiple Linux instances that are
isolated from each other on the same host. These LXC instances have processes that have their own private view of the
OS with its own process id (PID) space, file system structure and network interfaces. LXC allows the use of container OS
versions that are different from that of the host - for example, one can run OL 5, 6 or 7 Containers in an Oracle Linux 6.6
host.

For information on features, installing and configuring Linux Containers on Oracle Linux, please refer to Chapter 9: Linux
Containers in the Oracle Linux Administrator's Solutions Guide for Release 6 or Chapter 27: Linux Containers in the Oracle
Linux Administrator's Guide for Release 7.

Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2's application tier is certified with LXC with the UEK R3 (QU6 or higher) or UEK R4 - users
must review associated documentation and meet the following requirements:

Operating Systems requirements - see 'Supported Oracle Linux Container Versions' in the Documentation
References section below
Kernel Requirements - Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 3 Quarterly Update 6 (3.8.13-98) or higher or
UEK R4
Host RPM requirements for the following x86_64 lxc userspace packages:
lxc-1.0.7-2.0.8 or higher
lxc-libs-1.0.7-2.0.8 or higher
Check and configure kernel parameters, ulimit settings (in limits.conf) and swap size requirements on the host as
documented in the 'Other Requirements' section of this document
The LXC container running 12.2 must be created with the "--privileged" flag
Install all required RPM packages on the Container following the 'Operating Systems Requirements' section of this
document
https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 9/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

Check and configure certain container-specific kernel parameters and ulimit settings (in limits.conf) on the
Container as documented in the 'Other Requirements' section of this document. These values should be equal to or
less than the values set on the host (see Linux documentation in the section below). Specific kernel parameter
values to be configured on the Container are:
kernel.sem
kernel.shmall
kernel.shmmax
kernel.shmmni
kernel.msgmax
kernel.msgmnb
kernel.msgmni

SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux)

SELinux is a security enhancement to Linux allowing system administrators finer control over access to system resources
by users and applications.

Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux version 6, SELinux is enabled by default during OS installation
with a mode of 'enforcing'. The status of SELinux in a system can be checked by running the 'sestatus' command - other
modes are:

'disabled' where SELinux is disabled completely

'permissive' where warnings are logged to a file but not strictly enfored

The file /etc/selinux/config is the main SELinux configuration file that sets the mode and policy of SELinux in a system,
while warnings are logged to /var/log/messages. Please check and review vendor-specific documentation for further
details on SELinux administration and maintenance.

Release 12.2 has been tested with SELinux on RHEL/Oracle Linux 6 with the use of the 'enforcing' mode enabled and the
default 'targeted' policy. Users who find unforeseen issues with the 'enforcing' mode and specific policies should file an
Oracle Support Service Request with details including the SELinux message and their use case. The use of the 'permissive'
mode is certified and can be used as an alternative.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The following are other requirements for Linux x86-64 (64-bit).

Swap Space

It is recommended that the swap space on the system be 16 GB or more. To determine the size of the configured swap
space, enter the following command:

# grep SwapTotal /proc/meminfo

If necessary, see the operating system documentation for information about how to configure additional swap space.

Patching Oracle E-Business Suite

Note: When querying for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 patches on My Oracle Support and selecting Linux x86-
64 in the Platform dropdown list, it will re-direct you to a Linux x86 patch. This patch may be applied to 64-bit Linux
operating systems.

Patching Fusion Middleware in Oracle E-Business Suite

When applying OPatch patches to Fusion Middleware, users must run opatch with the '-jdk < $FMW_HOME/webtier/jdk>'
option due to a bug with opatch. For example,

$ echo $ORACLE_HOME
/d1/oracle/P122/at1/FMW_Home/webtier
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch
$ ./opatch lsinventory -jdk $ORACLE_HOME/jdk

Kernel Settings

Edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file to configure your kernel settings to the minimum values shown below. After editing the file,
use the "sysctl -p" command or restart the system to invoke the new settings.

Note: If the current value for any parameter is higher than the value listed in the following table, then do not
change the value of that parameter.

The following table lists the kernel settings that should be set for the OS:

Parameter Value
kernel.semmsl 2561
kernel.semmns 320001
kernel.semopm 1001
kernel.semmni 1421
kernel.shmall 20971524

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 12/28

kernel.shmmax Half the size of the physical memory (in bytes), and at least 42949672952
kernel.shmmni 4096
kernel.msgmax 8192
kernel.msgmnb 65535
kernel.msgmni 2878
fs.file-max 6815744
fs.aio-max-nr 1048576
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range 9000 655003

net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle 05
net.core.rmem_default 262144
net.core.rmem_max 4194304
net.core.wmem_default 262144
net.core.wmem_max 1048576

1: set using the following entry in the /etc/sysctl.conf file

kernel.sem = 256 32000 100 142

2: If running the database tier separately, the kernel parameter on the server hosting the Database must be the higher of
half the size of the physical memory (in bytes) and 4294967295
3: The values recommended for the local port range may need to be adjusted according to the specific needs of the user's
environment in order to avoid port conflicts.
4: The listed value is the minimum requirement - we recommend an actual setting that is at least equal to the sum of all
the SGAs on the system, divided by the page size.
5: The value of this parameter is recommended to be 0 (disabled, which is the default value) for most modern systems.
This parameter can also be omitted from the sysctl.conf file for this default value to be in effect. This resolves an issue
previously documented with Forms potentially hanging on Windows when switching between desktop applications.

On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), ensure that you set the following kernel parameter to the gid of the group used
as the dba group. For example, on a system using a group named dba with the dba:!:104:oracle entry in the /etc/group
file, the hugetlb_shm_group kernel parameter should be set to the following value:

vm.hugetlb_shm_group = 104

Domain Name System (DNS) Resolver Parameters

Two Domain Name System (DNS) resolver parameters (timeout and attempts) are set by default to low values when the
operating system is installed. These low values may cause network connections to an Oracle database to fail. If this
happens, add or update the following entries to these minimum settings in the /etc/resolv.conf file on each server node:

options attempts:5
options timeout:15

Verifying Host Names

Use the following to verify host name settings:

For Oracle Linux 5, 6 and 7, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6 and 7:

1. Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 13/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

[ip_address] [node_name].[domain_name] [node_name]

2. Verify that the /etc/sysconfig/network file is formatted as follows:

HOSTNAME=[node_name].[domain_name]

or as follows:

HOSTNAME=[node_name]
NISDOMAIN=[domain_name]

3. If the /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/network file exists, remove it.

4. If you changed any files in the previous steps, restart the system.

For SUSE Linux SLES 11 and 12:

1. Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

[ip_address] [node_name].[domain_name] [node_name]

2. If you changed any files in the previous step, restart the system.

Modify ulimit settings in limits.conf

Open the /etc/security/limits.conf file and change the existing ulimit settings for "hard" and "soft" parameters as follows.
Restart the system after making changes.

Note: If the current value for any parameter is higher than the value listed below, do not change the value of that
parameter as the following are suggested minimum values.

* hard nofile 65536

* soft nofile 4096
* hard nproc 16384
* soft nproc 2047
* hard stack 16384
* soft stack 10240

Threading Model in Linux must be NPTL

There are two threading models implemented in Linux - LinuxThreads (an older implementation which is not supported
starting in glibc 2.4) and the modern NPTL (Native POSIX Threads Library). In order to install and run the E-Business Suite
on Linux, the NPTL model must be the configured threading implementation for the operating system. This can be checked
with the command:

# getconf GNU_LIBPTHREAD_VERSION
NPTL 2.3.4

E-Business Suite Pre-Install RPM (available for Oracle Linux 5, 6 and 7)

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 14/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

The E-Business Suite pre-install package (oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall) for Oracle Linux 5, 6 and 7 is available on the
Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN, which requires a support contract) or from the Oracle public yum repository
(under the 'Add-ons' channel) for these Oracle Linux operating systems. It is recommended that this x86_64 rpm be
installed on top of a 'minimal' install of Oracle Linux to provide just the necessary packages to install and run Oracle E-
Business Suite.

As with the Oracle RDBMS Pre-Install RPMs, this package installs all required E-Business Suite RPM packages for both the
application and database tiers while configuring the environments with particular kernel and other values to meet most of
the requirements published in this document.

Note: Customers on Exadata (Database Machine, Cloud Machine, Cloud Service) should not install the Pre-Install
RPM as the system already contains all required packages and settings needed to run the Oracle Database.

This pre-install rpm will significantly reduce the preparation time of the environment prior to installing, upgrading or
cloning an E-Business Suite R12 instance by performing the following tasks:

downloading and installing all software package versions and dependencies required for installing E-Business Suite
R12
creating the users oracle and applmgr for use as owners of the database and application tiers respectively, while
setting hard and soft shell resource limits in /etc/security/limits.conf for Oracle Linux 5 and in
/etc/security/limits.d/oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall.conf for Oracle Linux 6 and 7
updating kernel parameters in /etc/sysctl.conf to recommended values
sets DNS resolver parameters in /etc/resolv.conf to minimum recommended values
sets 'numa=off' in the kernel commandline
disables 'Transparent Huge Pages (THP)' for Oracle Linux 6 and 7 if it is enabled

The following are steps needed to install the rpm using public-yum, with sample output from an Oracle Linux 6 installation:

1. As an authorized user (such as root), retrieve the file that configures repository locations:

# cd /etc/yum.repos.d
# wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo

For Oracle Linux 5 or 7, users should replace 'public-yum-ol6.repo' in the command above with 'public-yum-
el5.repo' or 'public-yum-ol7.repo' respectively.

2. Using a text editor, change the field 'enabled=0' to 'enabled=1' for the repositories corresponding to the
machine's operating system while also enabling the 'addons' channel. Here's an example of a repo file's
entries:

[ol6_latest]

Versions listed above are an example - actual versions may be different based on updates to the packages.

Detailed log and backup files are available under /var/log/oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall.

Note: Users of the pre-install rpm on Oracle Linux 5 should check to ensure that the unixODBC rpm
was installed as there is a known issue with the inclusion of this in the OL 5 repository. If this rpm is
missing, users need to download and install it manually.

4. While the above installation of the pre-install rpm includes all required packages and sets kernel
parameters and other system values, it is still necessary to perform a few additional steps prior to using this
environment for an E-Business Suite installation:

4a. Ensure that swap space meets the requirements as documented in the 'Swap Space'
section.
4b. Ensure that the hostname settings meet the requirements as documented in the ' Verifying
Host Names' section.
4c. Check threading model as documented in the 'Threading Model in Linux must be NPTL'

section.
4d. Check for OPMN port conflict.
4e. Check /etc/services for size as documented below .

5. Users can now install the E-Business Suite using the Rapid Install by using the rapidwiz utility after
correctly downloading and staging the E-Business Suite media as documented in the 'Oracle E-Business Suite
Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install' available from Oracle Documentation:

$ cd /u01/StageR122/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin
$ buildStage.sh
$ cd ..
$ ./rapidwiz

Users should review the Installation Guide for further details, as well as Release Update Pack (RUP)
READMEs as applicable.

BEFORE INSTALLING OR UPGRADING

Note: If the Release 12.2 installation or upgrade is performed with the Rapid Install wizard (either a new R12
installation or upgrade from 11i, 12.0 or 12.1 to 12.2), it is highly recommended to use the latest startCD version in

libpcre.so.0)
3. Apply patch 19458142 as a post-upgrade step
4. Run preclone to update files in the < COMMON_TOP > directory

Customers who installed 12.2 starting with startCD 50 or later do not have to upgrade Oracle Web Tier prior to a clone as
startCD 50 delivers version 11.1.1.7.

Customers who are performing a fresh install of the E-Business Suite on these operating systems using Rapid Install may
need to upgrade these technology components after the installation of EBS 12.2 (see section below in 'After Installing or
Upgrading').

Upgrade JDK (Oracle Linux 7, RHEL 7 and SLES 12 only)

Customers on existing 12.2 systems (who installed with a startCD version of 46) who are cloning to the above operating
systems must review and follow the instructions posted in the documents below to upgrade to the latest available JDK
versions if necessary:

Overview of Using Java with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (My Oracle Support Document 418664.1)
Using the Latest JDK 7.0 Update with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 (My Oracle Support Document

Customers wishing to clone to SLES 12 and who installed their existing environments with a startCD prior to version 51
should also upgrade to the latest available JDK versions if necessary.

Apply EBS Patches (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

Customers on existing 12.2 systems who are cloning to the above operating systems must first apply the following patches
on the source 12.2 environment:

19671435:R12.WIP.C1
19863797:R12.ENG.D1
AD/TXK delta 6 RUP (or higher) following " Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-
Business Suite Release 12.2" (My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1)
E-Business Suite Release 12.2 RUP 3 (12.2.3) or higher

1:These two patches are only required if the existing EBS 12.2 system is 12.2 RUP 4 (12.2.4) or earlier as these
patches are included in 12.2 RUP 5 (12.2.5).

Apply EBS Patches (SLES 12 only)

Customers on existing 12.2 systems who are cloning to the above operating system must first apply the following patches
on the source 12.2 environment:

AD-TXK Delta 10 RUP (or higher) following " Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-
Business Suite Release 12.2" (My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1)

E-Business Suite Release 12.2 RUP 6 (12.2.6) or higher

Apply Oracle Web Tier Pre-install check patch (SLES 11 SP2 and SLES 12 only)

Customers on existing 12.2 systems who are cloning to SLES 11 SP2 or 12 should first apply patch 22614829 (for SLES 11
SP2) or patch 22757185 (for SLES 12) on the source 12.2 environment with the following steps:

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 18/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

1. Backup the contents of the "prereq" directory under <FMW_Home>/webtier/inventory/Scripts on both the Run and
Patch filesystems of the 12.2 environment.
2. Unzip the patch and copy the "prereq" directory in the patch to replace the above on both the Run and Patch
filesystems of the 12.2 environment.
3. Run adpreclone.pl on the application tier to update files in <COMMON_TOP>, following Section 3.2.1 in My Oracle
Support Knowledge Document 1383621.1 "Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 with Rapid Clone".

Without this, cloning to this OS will fail due to incorrect rpm checks (libgcc43, etc.) for the OS.

OPMN port conflict

Attention: By default, the OPMN service of the Application Server technology stack listens on port 6000 when
started up during Rapid Install. This can conflict with the X11 port used for the graphics console on Linux servers and
prevent Rapid Install from completing.

To address this issue, perform the following steps before installing or upgrading:

Check if the port 6000 is being used ("netstat -a | grep 6000")

If so, you should disable the graphics console login process on the Linux server. This can be accomplished by
logging in as root and issuing the following commands:
Find the process that uses port 6000 by the command "lsof -i TCP:6000".
Use "kill -9" to abort the process found in the previous step
Confirm that nothing is listening at port 6000 ("netstat -a | grep 6000")
Modify /etc/inittab by changing "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:"
Run "/sbin/init 3" to restart dtlogin

Unset environment variable before installing (for SLES 11 and 12 only)

Unset the ENV environment variable prior to installing (to avoid failure of the registration of the 10.1.2 Oracle Home
during install):

$ unset ENV

Check /etc/services for size

To avoid a Java stack overflow during the registration of the 10.1.2 Oracle Home while installing 12.2, it is necessary to
backup the /etc/services file, remove commented lines in the file and then restore the file after installing 12.2 if there are
a large number of commented lines (> ~1300) in the file.

Create required link to Motif library (SLES 12 only)

Perform the following command (as root on your system) to create a required link to the Motif library for Oracle Reports:

# cd /usr/lib
#Â ln -s libXm.so.4 libXm.so.2

While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database) using startCD 49 or
earlier on the above operating systems, Rapid Install may report pre-requisite check failures such as:

Check Name:CertifiedVersions
Check Description:This is a prerequisite condition to test whether the Oracle software is certified on the
current O/S or not.
Expected result: One of redhat-6,oracle-6,oracle-5.6,oracle-5.7,oracle-5.8,enterprise-5.4,enterprise-

Actual Result: oracle-7.0
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<

This error can be ignored as the issue will be addressed after the Web Tier is upgraded to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) as a post-
install step (see below).

Starting with startCD 50, this error will not be seen.

Ignore link error during Web Server Install in startCD 49 or earlier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database) using startCD 49 or
earlier on the above operating systems, users may see link errors such as:

Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile

'/d1/oracle/PROD/fs1/FMW_Home/webtier/webcache/lib/ins_calypso.mk'.......
/usr/bin/ld: libwebcache.a(wxsmdms.o): undefined reference to symbol 'yodSensorInvalidate'[[/usr/bin/ld:

These errors can be ignored as the issue will be addressed after the Web Tier is upgraded to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) as a
post-install step (see below).

Starting with startCD 50, this error will not be seen.

Ignore Web Server Install Pre-requisite and Database Pre-install check warnings (SLES 11 SP 2 only)

While installing EBS 12.2 and its required technology components (Fusion Middleware and Database), users can ignore
specific warnings pertaining to missing rpms such as:

libgcc43-4.3.3_20081022
libstdc++43-4.3.3_20081022-11.18
libstdc++43-32bit-4.3.3_20081022

The above missing rpms on this OS will cause Rapid Install in silent mode (using '-silent') to fail, so either the interactive
option of Rapid Install should be used instead or the OS should be upgraded to SLES 11 SP 3 or higher.

Ignore HTTP server check failure in post Rapid Install checks (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

During post-install checks, the HTTP server checks might fail with the following errors:

/d1/oracle/PROD/fs1/FMW_Home/webtier/ohs/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd

httpd.worker: Syntax error on line 1042 of

These errors can be ignored as the issue will be addressed after the Web Tier is upgraded to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) as a
post-install step (see below).

AFTER INSTALLING OR UPGRADING

Perform the following steps after installing or upgrading to Release 12.2 and before allowing users to access the system.

Create dynamic linker runtime bindings for Oracle Reports (SLES 11 installs using startCD 46 with Java 6
only)

When running Reports such as 'Active User' Concurrent Reports, the shared library libmawt may not be found for the
executable rwrun and can error out. One way to fix this is to perform the following as superuser or root on the application
tier system:

1. Create a rwrun.conf file under /etc/ld.so.conf.d and add "< 10.1.2 OH

>/jdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt" to this file where
< 10.1.2
> is replaced with the actual 10.1.2 (Forms/Reports) Oracle Homes. For example:

# cd /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
# touch rwrun.conf
# echo "/d1/oracle/PROD/fs1/EBSapps/10.1.2/jdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt" > rwrun.conf
# echo "/d1/oracle/PROD/fs2/EBSapps/10.1.2/jdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt" >> rwrun.conf

2. Run the ldconfig command to load the library path configuration:

# /sbin/ldconfig

This issue does not arise when installing using startCD 47 (which includes Java 7) or higher, and so the above commands
are not needed for 12.2 environments created with the startCD 47 or higher.

Upgrade Oracle Database

Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 must now upgrade the Oracle Database to 11gR2
(11.2.0.4 or higher) or 12c (12.1.0.2 or higher) on the new 12.2 environment following the respective documents:

Interoperability Notes Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 with Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0) (My
Oracle Support Document 1623879.1)
Interoperability Notes Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 with Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0) (My
Oracle Support Document 1926201.1)

Note:
1. When installing 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Linux 7 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, the warning regarding missing package 'pdk
2. When installing 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Linux 7 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, users may see the installer error in invoking
undefined reference to symbol 'B_DestroyKeyObject'. Users should review and implement the workaround noted in the d

Installation of Oracle 11.2.0.4 Database Software on OL7 fails with "undefined reference to symbol 'B_DestroyKey

Upgrade Oracle Web Tier (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 on OL/RHEL 7 using startCD 49 or earlier must upgrade
the Oracle Web Tier to 11.1.1.7 (11gR1 PS6) or higher following the document:

Upgrading Oracle Fusion Middleware WebTier of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 to the latest 11gR1
(11.1.1.x) PatchSet (My Oracle Support Document 1590356.1)

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 21/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

The Web Tier should be upgraded after applying the latest 12.2 Release Update Pack (12.2.3 or higher) to the newly
installed12.2.0 environment.

Note (for upgrades to Web Tier 11.1.1.7 only):

1. When installing Web Tier 11.1.1.7, apply patch 19854840 and follow the patch README to start the installer. If an
error window pops up ("Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile
'< FMW_HOME >/webtier/webcache/lib/ins_calypso.mk'" ), click 'Continue' and ignore the error. This will be addressed
during the application of the patch 19458142 below.
2. Apply the following patches as a post install step for Web Tier:
- 21081177(to fix the issue with OHS start up failing with missing library libpcre.so.0)
- 19458142

Customers who are cloning an existing EBS environment (installed with startCD 49 or earlier) to a new OL/RHEL 7 system
must upgrade Oracle Web Tier prior to performing the clone (as noted above in the 'Before Installing or Upgrading'
section).

Beginning with startCD 50, this Web Tier upgrade step is not necessary as the Oracle Web Tier version delivered with EBS
Rapid Install is version 11.1.1.7.

Upgrade JDK (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 with startCD 46 must review and follow the instructions
posted in the doucments below to upgrade to the latest available JDK versions:

Overview of Using Java with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (My Oracle Support Document 418664.1)
Using the Latest JDK 7.0 Update with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 (My Oracle Support Document
1530033.1)

Starting with startCD 47, this upgrade step is not necessary as the JDK version delivered with EBS is JDK 7.

Apply EBS Patches (Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7 only)

Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 must now apply the following patches on the new 12.2
environment:

19671435:R12.WIP.C1
19863797:R12.ENG.D1
AD/TXK delta 6 RUP (or higher) following " Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-
Business Suite Release 12.2" (My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1)
E-Business Suite Release 12.2 RUP 3 (12.2.3) or higher

1:These two patches are not required if installing 12.2 RUP 5 (12.2.5) or higher as they are included in that RUP.

Apply EBS Patches (SLES 12 only)

Customers who have performed a fresh installation of EBS 12.2 must now apply the following patches on the new 12.2
environment:

AD/TXK delta 10 RUP (or higher) following " Applying the Latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs to Oracle E-
Business Suite Release 12.2" (My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1617461.1)
AD patch 26558557:R12.AD.C
E-Business Suite Release 12.2 RUP 6 (12.2.6) or higher

LD_LIBRARY_PATH Environment Variable

Dynamic libraries are used as part of the relinking and execution processes. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable
is used by Oracle E-Business Suite to locate the required dynamic libraries at runtime - this variable is set by the Rapid
Install wizard during the installation of EBS as well as by the Rapid Clone script (adcfgclone) when configuring the target
system.

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 22/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

If you need to change these values, use the Edit Parameters function of the OAM AutoConfig tool (by logging in as
'System Administrator' responsibility, clicking on 'System Administrator', selecting 'AutoConfig' under 'Oracle Applications
Manager', and clicking on the 'Environments' tab):

On each application tier server node:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in three places:

$APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env
$ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.2/[ CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the 10.1.2 Oracle home directory
In the AutoConfig interface, this corresponds to:

Location Parameter
adovars LD_LIBRARY_PATH
tools_home (10.1.2) LD_LIBRARY_PATH

On the database server node:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in $ORACLE_HOME/[ CONTEXT_NAME].env which corresponds in the AutoConfig

interface to:

Location Parameter
db_home LD_LIBRARY_PATH

After making these changes, run AutoConfig (adautocfg.sh) to implement the changes on the application and database
tiers.

Additional Information: See AutoConfig in Oracle E-Business Suite Maintenance Utilities for more information on
AutoConfig.

Net Service Listeners in Multi-user Installations

Net Service Listeners use the /var/tmp/.oracle directory to store temporary files. To give all users in a multi-user
installation write privileges, update /var/tmp/.oracle with 777 permissions:

$ chmod 777 /var/tmp/.oracle

KNOWN ISSUES

The following are known issues for this release:

Certain binutils versions cause sqlplus failure after relink/clone

Certain binutils versions (such as 2.26 and 2.27-27 in RHEL/OL 7) introduced a regression that causes the following failure
with a relinked sqlplus (after a clone operation, for example):

[oracle@apps lib]$ sqlplus <APPS LOGIN>/<APPS PASSWORD>

sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

This was fixed starting in version 2.27-28 in RHEL/OL 7 - customers should upgrade to at least this version of binutils if the
above failure is encountered.

Latest UEK and Red Hat kernel upgrades can cause Oracle Reports to fail
https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=fgsile1zm_151&id=1330701.1 23/28
16/8/2019 Document 1330701.1

Upgrading to the latest UEK R4 (4.1.12-94.3.8.el6uek or later) and Red Hat kernel (2.6.32-696.3.2.el6 or later) can cause
Oracle Reports to fail with a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error. Users should also upgrade the JDK in the 10.1.2
(Forms/Reports) Oracle Home to the latest JDK 7 (Update 151 or later) in order to avoid this failure by following the
appropriate instructions in:

Using the Latest JDK 7.0 Update with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2 (My Oracle Support Document
1530033.1)

Rapid Install may fail during application of FMW patch (startCD 50 or higher only)

12.2 Rapid Install can fail during the application of FMW patch 7695070 with the following error:

<s_base>/fs2/FMW_Home/webtier/jdk/bin/java is not a valid executable for this platform. OPatch cannot

proceed!

This issue is due to the XAUTHORITY env variable pointing to something other than the .Xauthority file (which must be
present in the home directory) for the applmgr user. In addition, entries in the .Xauthority file must have correct values for
variables such as DISPLAY (corresponding to the value used when invoking Rapid Install).

Advanced Supply Chain Planning product (MSO) may crash when increasing number of threads for
optimization

The 64-bit Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning executable MSONWL64.exe may crash when increasing the number of
threads for optimization on a system with insufficient memory (bug 7259631). The following error is observed when this
occurs:

**** glibc detected *** MSONWL64.exe: corrupted double-linked list:

0x00002aaaac0008b0 ****

Patching Application Server Oracle Homes using OPatch (Oracle Linux 6 and RHEL 6 only)

After an installation or clone of Release 12, you will need to set the OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID to '226' prior to applying
patches to the 10.1.2 Application Server Oracle Home. For example, in the "ksh" shell:

$ OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID=226; export OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID

This step is needed to avoid an OPatch Config Assistant failure.

Errors while running ADOP - AD Online Patching (SLES 11 only)

While running the utility ADOP on SLES, users may see errors such as

sh: mc: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file

sh: error importing function definition for `mc'

This is due to the mc ('midnight commander') utility on SUSE being defined differently as a function with multiple lines.
There is no functional loss or ramifications due to these error messages.

In order to avoid these error messages, users can choose to run the following before running ADOP:

$ unset mc

To re-enable mc after running ADOP, they can use the following command::

$ export -f mc

Error while cloning on Red Hat/Oracle Linux 5.5 with older UEK kernel

While attempting to clone E-Business Suite 12.2 on a Red Hat or Oracle Linux 5 Update 5 (5.5) with its associated
Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) version 2.6.32-100.0.19, a failure will be seen during the clone phase of OHS (Web
Tier) as the OUI pre-requisite checks do not include this version of the UEK.

This can be worked around by upgrading the UEK to the latest available version that is available on the public yum
repository as documented here.

Errors in log files when starting Admin Server during multi-node shared file installation

Customers who have installed the modules package (environment-modules) may see errors during multi-node shared file
installations in log files such as:

Starting WLS Admin Server...

sh: module: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
sh: error importing function definition for 'module'

Customers can avoid this by either unsetting the 'module' environment variable in the shell where they're installing 12.2,
or by uninstalling the environment-modules rpm if they're not using the features of the modules package.

Errors starting Oracle Forms Builder (SLES 12 only)

Oracle Forms Builder fails to launch on SLES 12 with the following errors:

FRM-91111: Internal Error: window system startup failure.

FRM-10039: Unable to start up the Form Builder

This is due to Forms Builder's dependency on an older version of Motif (/usr/lib/libXm.so.2) than what is delivered with
SLES 12 (/usr/lib/libXm.so.4).

Errors on XFS file system for large disks mounted with 64-bit inode (inode64) option

The use of the XFS file system, the default local filesystem on Oracle Linux/RHEL 7, for larger disks (greater than around
1TB) with the inode64 mount option may result in errors when using EBS such as:

Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from..

Please wait ...Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

This is due to the use of 32-bit executables in EBS which can result in the accessing of inode numbers on the file system
that are greater than the 2^32 limit of the 32-bit userspace. It is recommended to use the 32-bit inode option (the default
for XFS) or other local filesystems such as ext4 if this problem is encountered.
