FX-1005e 4 Yes 20,000 150

FX-1010c 6 Yes 20,000 150

FX-4010c 4 Yes 30,000 600

FX-5020c 6 Yes 100,000 1,000

FX-6020c 6 Yes 150,000 1,500

Table 1-1: FX Series Capabilities

In the above table:

• Platform: The full name of the model.

• Ethernet Ports: The number of available RJ-45 electrical Gigabit Ethernet ports.
• Fail-to-Wire: Support of the Fail-to-Wire feature, whereby the LAN and WAN
ports are wired together when the device is powered down or when a failure is
detected.
• Accelerated Sessions: The maximum number of TCP-accelerated sessions
that are concurrently supported.
• Data Rates (Mbps): The maximum data rate (aggregated throughput, including
both transmission and reception) supported by this model.
NOTE: The maximum data rate may be limited by the installed license.

1.1.1 WAN Optimization

The FX Series’ WAN optimization improves access to your applications by reducing the
amount of data transferred on the link. This data reduction is achieved through the use of
various compression and caching schemes, as well as by accelerating reliable protocols.

1.1.2 Device Management

The FX Series provides an embedded web interface (the FX Series Web-based Interface)
to configure and monitor FX devices, as well as monitor the network status. You can also
monitor the FX Series using an SNMP-based software application.

A Command Line Interface (CLI) is available through the local serial port, as well as via
remote SSH. The CLI provides only basic management access configuration.

Powering the FX Series Chassis

3.10 Powering the FX Series Chassis

All FX Series models can be powered by AC power, while the FX-1010c can be powered
by either AC or DC power. Depending on which option you ordered, the device is
equipped with a fixed single power supply, a single hot-swap module or a pair of
redundant hot-swap modules.

The power supply modules are associated with the Power LED located on the device’s
front panel.

Properly connecting the power cables to the chassis is crucial. Improper

insertion can result in damage to the device while the device is
powering up. Proceed with extreme caution.
Warning

The FX Series devices require that the building’s electrical installation

provide a 3-amp maximum overcurrent breaker protection per device.
Warning

3.10.1 Powering the FX-1010c with DC

The FX-1010c DC model has a single or redundant terminal block -48 VDC power input,
with an operating range from -36 VDC to -72 VDC.

NOTE: Only one power connector is required for normal operations. The second
connector is used to connect to a redundant power source.

Figure 3-14 below shows a typical DC terminal block that is located on either a hot-swap
power supply or fixed on the device.

Figure 3-14: DC Power Connector

Memotec Inc. 3-19

FX Series Hardware Guide

Devices with a single hot-swap power module come with a blank

module. Always install the blank module (i.e., the power supply slot
cover) to close the unused slot when using only one hot-swap power
source. Failure to do so will impair the system’s ability to maintain the
Warning
operating temperature within range.

Figure 3-15: DC Power Supply Slot Cover

Always use the power cable retainer clip, if present. After plugging the
coupler end of the power cable into the power supply’s AC power cable
inlet, pull down the retainer clip so that it sits snugly over top of the base
Warning of the plug.

It is recommended to adhere to the guidelines below when establishing a DC power

connection to the device:

• The wire gauge used must be no smaller than 14 AWG. A rectangular tongue
terminal (stud size M3.5) is recommended to secure the wire to the terminal
block.
• The RETURN (positive lead) must be connected to the screw identified as RTN.
• The -48VDC (negative lead) must be connected to the screw identified as
-36V-72V.
• The Frame (Earth) Ground must be connected to the screw identified with the
Ground symbol.
See Figure 3-16 and Figure 3-17 below for the recommended FX-1010c DC

Return Authorization (RA) numbers are valid for 30 days after date of issue. DO NOT SHIP
any equipment before receiving an RA number. Shipping charges should be prepaid.

No credit will be given for equipment returned without proper authorization. All items inside
the device must be listed on the RMA form.

To avoid custom delays, please provide your shipping company with all the necessary
commercial invoices. MEMOTEC WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for any fees imposed for
storage from the shipping company or delays caused by missing documents. It is the
responsibility of the sender to ensure that all documents are clearly indicated for customs.
You may also fax the commercial invoices to 514-738-4436 once you ship the equipment,
although they will only be used as a reference.

Repairs are processed within 20 business days of receiving the equipment. If you do not

product.
8. The warranty does not cover any labor involved in the removal and or reinstallation
of warranted equipment or parts on site, or any labor required to diagnose the nature
of the problem and establish the necessity for repair or replacement of the Product.
9. The warranty excludes any responsibility by Memotec for incidental or consequential
damages arising from the use of the Product, or for any inability to use them either
separate from or in combination with any other equipment or products.
10. It is the Distributor/Business Partner’s (or direct purchasers) responsibility to ensure

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – WEEE

The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) legislation aims to raise the level
of recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and to encourage designers to create
products with recycling in mind.

The equipment that you have purchased required the extraction and use of natural
resources for its production. It may contain hazardous substances that could impact health
and the environment.

In order to avoid the dissemination of those substances in our environment and to diminish
the pressure on the natural resources, we encourage you to use the appropriate take-back
systems. Those systems will reuse or recycle most of the materials of your end-of-life
equipment in a sound way.

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol invites you not to dispose of WEEE as unsorted
municipal waste and to collect such WEEE separately.
