Definitions
• Post-Secondary
• “Post” means after
• Post-Secondary is after graduation

• Programs designed to graduate in 4 years
• Earn a Bachelor’s degree; BS, BA, BFA…
• Official Transcripts-A document with a seal, or some type of inscription, sent directly from a registrar.
• Unofficial Transcripts have been in the hands of the student and do not have a seal or registrar's
signature. A copy of a transcript is unofficial.

Should You Complete the A+ Program?
• Yes
• It’s like an educational insurance policy in case life throws you
a curveball
• Accessible for 4 years after HS graduation
• Some four year colleges grant an A+ Scholarship
• Even if you start at a University and change plans, you may
still utilize A+ funds if you maintain a 2.5 GPA
• Why not?

the form to get a barcode

Step 2: At the college fair, show


this barcode to colleges. They’ll
scan it to get your info

Step 3: After the fair, you’ll get a


report with info from the schools
that scanned you.
College Visits
● Visit the schools you are interested in to get a feel for what life is like on
campus
○ Visit a class, meet a professor, eat in the dining hall, meet with someone in financial aid, etc.
● Juniors are allowed 2 college visits
○ Must have a 2.5 GPA
● Visit Mrs. Fish in the Senior Office to get a college visit form
● You are still responsible for any work missed in class the days you are gone
● You can also sign up to visit with Admission Reps when they are here at
RayPec
○ Sign up through Naviance Student & we will send you a pass!
What Can the ACT Do For You? ACT in April for some Jrs

• Merit Scholarships partially based on ACT
• Course Placement-May need a certain score for RPHS dual credit course

• NCAA/NAIA Eligibility
• Core Course GPA + ACT score determine eligibility for sports
Transcripts: Official vs Unofficial
• The Record Release form must be signed, by a parent or an 18+ year old
student, before they can be sent anywhere on your behalf
• Transcripts cannot be sent without your consent - must be requested through
Naviance
• Official Dual Credit/AP transcripts must be requested from
UCM/UMKC/MCC/MSU or the College Board
• Request a final RPHS transcript to be sent to your chosen school AGAIN after
graduation & to the NCAA/NAIA if you are an athlete
• ACT scores are typically only official if they come from ACT and you must be the
one to request them.
• If you included the college as one of your 4 free ACT score choices you do not
need to send it again

Junior Year Scholarships
● There are scholarships for juniors ONLY!
● KC Scholars
○ Up to $10,000/year traditional college scholarship, renewable for 5 years
○ 2.5gpa OR 16+ ACT
○ Applications available January 2020
○ www.kcscholars.org
● Check Naviance Student for others, they will be posted as we receive
information
So What Now?!
● Take the practice ACT on the 30th seriously, then compare your scores
● Some juniors may take the PSAT on this date.
● As you continue taking classes, you score will continue to improve
● FREE April ACT or Accuplacer or ASVAB or Work Keys
● Still not satisfied?
○ RPHS offers an ACT prep class - email Mr. Beneke to register
○ Online test prep (some free, some pricey)
○ Continue to challenge yourself when choosing classes
○ Take the ACT again during the fall of your senior year
