Definition of Literature

Literature is a scientific material or source commonly used to make a paper or

other scientific activities. This literature is similar to a bibliography or reference. If
you are confused to find material from a science, then you will look for references to
other sources. That reference to other sources is called literature. The form of
literature can be in the form of softcopy or hardcopy. Softcopy is the material or
reference in the form of computer data, while hardcopy is a material or reference in
the form of a book and has been printed on paper.

Literature can be interpreter as a source or reference used in various activities

in the world of education or other activities. Literature can also be interpreted as a
reference used to obtain certain information. Literature can be in the form of books or
various other writings.

ALA Glozary of Library and Information Science itself, the definition of

literature is reading material used in various types of activities both intellectually and
recreation.1

B. Types of Literature
Basically the literature can be distinguished by several categories, according to
the location of the placement of the collection, according to the depth of analysis, and
according to its nature. Literature type according to placement location collection:
1. GeneralCollection
The general literature collection is literature which consists of various
kinds of books made for the level of adult readers. This type of literature is
usually placed on an open shelf and is free to be used by anyone as a source of
reading material. Some of these literature examples are popular books that
discuss plant cultivation, comic series ,novels, etc.
2.ReferenceCollectionLiterature
Reference collection is literature that contains a collection of
information that can specifically be used to answer various types of questions

 that are owned by users. This type of literature is usually in the form of
dictionaries, manuals, and encyclopedias.2

Type of Literature According to the Depth Level of Analysis :

1. Primary Literature of Literature

Primary literature is literature created from the results of research in which the
results have never been published before. This type of literature usually contains a
variety of new ideas or theories from various kinds of scientific disciplines.
2. SecondaryLiterature
The definition of secondary literature is literature that is made by referring to
or quoting the results in the primary literature. Secondary literature usually
contains theories that have been found before and tend not to display new
findings.

3. Tertiary Literature
Tertiary literature is literature that contains various kinds of information in the
form of instructions to be able to obtain secondary literature. Some of these
literature examples are bibliographies of several bibliographies, directories from
directories, etc.
of Type of Literature by Nature :
1.Textual document
Textual document literature is literature that contains various kinds of
written texts that can be read by users.
2.Non textual document
Non textual document literature is literature that contains information
contained in forms other than text such as images, photos, sounds,etc.
3.Mixed Documents
Mixed document literature is a literature whose contents are a
combination of textual literature and non-textual literature. This type of

 literature is usually made after the textual document literature and non-textual
document literature have been published.3

Bismillah Integrated Islamic Boarding School is a boarding school that

combines two educational systems / curricula, namely religious education (Islamic
boarding school) and general education / formal / national curriculum / system,
initiated / established by Drs. KH. Amin Shobrie, M.Pd as an alumnus of the Tebu
ireng Jombang Islamic boarding school. In the religious / Curriculum system, the
students were provided with the study of the turost yellow book, such as nahwu
shorof, akhlaq, fiqh, hadith, interpretations, and linguistics. In addition there are also
extracurricular activities in the fields of religion, art, martial arts and sports. The
Integrated Islamic Boarding School of Bismillah not only teaches religious knowledge
to the santri, but also provides general knowledge, so formal education institutions are
established namely Integrated Early Childhood Education and TIS IT Bismillah,
Bismillah Integrated Middle School, Integrated Bismillah MTs, Bismillah Vocational
School, MA Bismillah, Islamic Boarding School and Tahfidz Al Qur'an.

The English language teaching method used in bismillah uses the 2013
curriculum. for example in the eleventh class, the material taught is about suggestion
of opinion, cause and effect and sing a song. if for twelfth grade, the material taught is
more focused on majors such as training to become a receptionist, daily conversation,
and others.

 difficulties faced in learning to teach English in SMK Bismillah namely the
maximization of the ability of children to receive material because mateti given based
on religion and general. so, student learning time must be divided with various
material that must be learned, not to mention students must do a lot of work practices
in the field so that the time to study in class becomes less than optimal.5

D. Suggestion/conclusion
SMK Bismillah is a vocational school that is within the scope of the pesantren
so that the learning methods are religious and public so the learning material given to
tenth and eleventh graders is not accepted by students due to the large amount of
material taught. only about forty percent of students get good grades during exams.
but for provision in the world of student work in each department, the school focuses
on learning English in twelfth grade students as training and provision for their future
work.
