Waiting for the Train

Ten Prairie Ridge residents took up the offer by the
Valley County Pioneer Museum crew to come out and
take a tour of the Niedringhaus Center (Valley County
“Street Scene”) featuring a hotel and bar, jewelry store,
barber shop, confectionery, law office, emporium,
general store, and a depot, where they parked for this
photo. Pictured from left are Rudy Towes, Prairie Ridge
Activities Director Kathy Johnson, Theron Risa, Patty
Gendreau, Helen Guderjahn, Marlene Bengochea,
Judy Saindon, Shirley & Bob Elfring, Joan Melby and

Mosquitoes in Valley County test positive for WNV

State and local public health officials
are reporting the season’s first
human West Nile Virus (WNV)
cases in Montana. The cases,
reported in Custer and Lewis and
Clark counties, both occurred
in individuals over the age of 60,
who are often at greater risk for
severe disease. Both required
hospitalization.
Positive mosquito samples
were previously reported from
Blaine, Cascade, Sheridan, Valley,
and Yellowstone counties. In
addition, one equine case of WNV
was identified in Lake County this
season.

Most people who become infected with WNV
experience no symptoms, but 1 in 5 develop a mild illness,
with symptoms such as headache, body aches, joint
pains, vomiting, diarrhea or a rash. Other individuals,
fewer than 1 out of 150, may become severely ill with
encephalitis or meningitis (inflammation of the brain or
surrounding tissues). Most people recover completely,
but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or even
months.
There is no available treatment for WNV infection
other than supportive care. Individuals who develop any
of these symptoms should see their healthcare provider.
Since arrival of WNV in Montana in 2002, case
counts have varied widely each year. In 2002, there were
two cases, while one year later, in 2003, there were 227
cases reported. The 17-year average, which includes two
outbreak years consisting of 200 plus cases, is 37 cases.
Last year there were a total of 51 human cases, including
one death.
The 4 D’s of West Nile Virus prevention:
1. DEET: Use insect repellent such as DEET or picaridin
2. Drain: Drain standing water around your house to
prevent mosquito breeding
3. Dawn/Dusk: Mosquitoes are most active during
dawn and dusk. Stay inside or take precautions to
prevent mosquito bites during these times
4. Dress: When possible, wear long sleeved shirts and
pants to protect yourself from bites

at the ground once in a while. Not only will this hopefully
help you avoid stepping on a cactus or a rattlesnake, you
might also see one of eastern Montana’s rarely seen critters…

hernandesi, or “horny toad” is a Species of Greatest
Inventory Need (SGIN) in Montana due to insufficient data

Folks, ya just gotta hear this, first,
from me so’s I can prove to you that I’m
not the only crazy who writes crazy stuff.
I don’t usually copy something from a
newspaper word for word (or ‘verbatim’
for you college educated people) but my uncle
sent this to me by stage coach all the way from Green Valley,
Arizona and I feel you should hear it.
Here goes as written by Cheryl Boyles in the Sahuarita
Sun, Green Valley, Az. opinion page. “This past Tuesday at
a Trader Joe’s in Tucson a male shopper came in wearing a
“Trump 2020” t-shirt. My husband and I immediately felt
threatened and observed the entire mood of the store shift
as well. We quickly and cautiously finished our shopping and
moved to the check-out stands.
“Before we left, my husband asked our checker — a
Caucasian woman — to convey to management the anxiety
we had just experienced at suddenly finding ourselves in a
confined space with a man who looked the part of a typical
Trump terrorist.”
Dumbfounded, I kept reading as she continued, “We
were not prepared for our checker’s response. Thanking us
both profusely she grabbed my husband’s hand like a life-line,
two fingers flying to check her own neck pulse. The Trump
shopper had just been through her line and her heart was
still racing with fear — she actually needed us to help her
calm down. I wanted to run after this man and ask him if
he knew what he had done to this hapless woman, what he
had done to us, but of course he knew, that was the point and
he’s got plenty of dark-minded company, and that’s the most
terrifyingly awful part of all.”

All I can say is YIKES! However.....I sympathize with this
woman, friends and I can now tell you why.
World in Cut-and-Shoot, Texas a few years back when
I became faintly light-headed seeing a woman wearing a
“Hillary for President” t-shirt. The most alarming part of that
was that she was accompanied by a woman....I’m sure she was
a terrorist....wearing the long black robes with only her eyes
showing, you know, the jibab or hijab or that thing-a-ma-
bob. I, like Cheryl Boyles in Arizona, reached for my neck
pulse and found it racing. I was so scared I felt tears running
down both my legs!
Alright, alright...stop it!
I was sure this Boyles woman had written this piece
much as I write some of mine....satirically, but my uncle said he
had called the editor of the paper asking that same query and
was assured the woman was deadly serious. No, satire was not
intended. The editor of this small newspaper south of Tucson
said he has had 59 responses to the opinion expressed and all
have been negative towards Boyles. No surprise there huh?
Egads and gadzooks folks! How can anyone living in
this country think that way? Has she been that thoroughly
brainwashed by the Democrat-controlled media?
One response was “ I didn’t realize that the ‘Trump
Derangement Syndrome’ was real until I read Ms. Cheryl
Boyles’ letter.” Another was “Her letter is the most outrageous,
ludicrous and despicable I have ever seen......”
One guy asked Boyles, “ How did you know the man
wearing the t-shirt was a terrorist? Was he carrying an assault
rifle or a backpack full of explosives?”
But anyway folks, I thought you might get a kick out of
this one.
Only in America! Don’t ya’ just love it? And at the risk
of sending any liberals straight to the looney-bin I will close
with this: Keep America Great. Vote for Donald J Trump.
