Mastery Grading Scoring Rubrics in Mastery Grading

In this course, student progress will be communicated & evaluated
through Mastery Grading. In our class, this will mean:
· The final grade is not based on weighted averages or total
points, but on student mastery on all learning targets.
· The learning targets do not correspond to individual
chapters, but will be used and assessed throughout the course.
· A grade can also be impacted by overall growth – later scores
will be given more importance than earlier ones.
· Assessments will have multiple scores, on 4-point rubrics:
one score for each learning target that it covers.
· Evidence of mastery can include assessments, conversations,
observations of the student working, and more
· At the grading periods, I (the teacher) use all evidence to
evaluate mastery of learning targets & determine the grade
· Behavior is separate from demonstration of mastery: it
affects Cooperation/consequences, not the Academic grade
· Students should understand how they’re doing for each
learning target, and reflect and improve as necessary.
