CONFIDENTIAL LETTER OF REFERENCE (Continued)

4. Please describe the applicant's qualifications and potential for successfully completing further academic study in the U.S. Your insights on the
following are greatly appreciated:
Applicant's outstanding talents
How he or she compares with peers, both academically or in leadership roles
Observation on the applicant's character
Other comments or relevant insights that you can offer that are not likely available from other sources.

Karguna was sent to Jambi as a French instructor (an independent freelancer), by his institution which has an MOU with the
Language Center of UIN STS Jambi, to give a six-month French training (A1, A2, B1 levels) to a group of selected lecturers in UIN
STS Jambi. My institution (JEC Professional Development) is the “external” party which runs activities within the language center.
Through time I got to know how successful he was as an instructor. He was very capable of managing the teaching-learning process
and very good at motivating his student. As an individual, he is an easy-going person, fun to be with and very helpful in many ways.

Upon finishing the program, he went back to his hometown; and then about several months later he was invited back by his students
to continue the program (on personal request). They called him back as they did not feel satisfied and lost their motivation with the
instructor that continued teaching in the program (for B2 level); proved by the results of the tests on the two levels (nobody passed).
He came back to deliver a ‘personal favor’ to re-train the students for another four months. What he has done shows that the students
prefer his approach in the teaching-learning process; his coming back also shows his dedication toward the teaching of French as his
expertise.

Karguna is a very motivating person; he is always willing to help with any activities in the language center. He is never hesitant to help
when it comes to education. Apart from teaching, he has become a sort of foreign language teaching consultant for teachers in the
center; even after he went back home again a couple weeks ago. He has created a (soc-med) medium of communication and
consultation for the purpose of it. He remains actively involved with the development of the teachers in the language center of UIN
STS Jambi.

If he is granted to pursue his master degree, I strongly believe that he will be able to do and contribute more in the future. He is very
eligible for the program as he is an inspiring person/teacher.
