Keywords: twin gods of the morning; morning and evening stars; physicians of the gods;
Ayurvedic medicine; healing; old age; protection of love and marriage.

The Ashvins (meaning possessor of horses, horse tamer or cavalier) or Ashwini Kumaras are
divine twin horsemen in the Rigveda, sons of Saranya, a goddess of clouds and wife of
Surya in his form as Vivasvat. They are Vedic gods symbolising the shining of sunrise
and sunset, appearing in the sky before the dawn in a golden chariot, bringing treasures
to men and averting misfortune and sickness. They are the doctors of gods and are
devas of Ayurvedic medicine. They are called Nasatya meaning kind, helpful and Dasra
meaning enlightened giving. To each one of them is assigned the number 7 and to the pair
the number 14.

A number of hymns are addressed to them because of their healing and curative powers.
They are said to descend to earth thrice a day to help mankind with their restorative and
curative powers. The Ashvins are considered to be the brothers of Usha, the goddess of
dawn and may actually represent twilight when darkness and light appear intertwined
on the horizon just before dawn as well as before dusk. They are praised in the hymns as
wonder-workers with nimble hands and miraculous healing powers.

The Rigvedic hymns describe them as lords of hundred powers, who can make the blind
and lame see and walk, the injured recover quickly from their afflictions and help men
produce offspring or cows yield more milk. They can reduce the heat in the human
body, cure the septic sores, store the germ of life in female creatures and perform even
surgery. Travelling in a chariot with three spokes, they come down to the earth thrice a
day carrying with them heavenly medicines.

How to Use the Energies

To give a hands-on healing, have your patient sit on a chair with their eyes closed and
their hands on their lap with the palms facing up. Stand behind them and gently place
your hands on their shoulder. Activate the gods’ energies by intent and see yourself and
your patient wrapped in a cloud of energies. Let the energy-flow run for about 10
minutes. You can also focus the energies directly on the organ you wish to heal.

To give distant healing, sit on a chair with your eyes closed and your hands on your lap
with the palms facing up. Visualise your patient or their name in the palm of your hand
and place your palms together. Intend that the gods’ energies flow to heal and cleanse.
Let the energy-flow run for about 10 minutes. Use this same method for self-healing.

The gods’ energies could also be used to charge water, crystals, jewellery, wands,
candles etc. Simply hold in your hands what you wish to charge and activate the
energies by intent. Let the energy-flow run for about 10 minutes.

You can also vibrate, chant or recite the gods’ names as a mantra when you meditate,
give healing or charge an object.

Attunement
There are two attunements, one for each god. I generally use the higher-self attunement
method to pass on these energies, but you can use the chi-ball or any other method you
wish. You can attune several people at the same time and there is no limit on re-
attunements.
