year in Australia.
Aussie-isms
―Fair Dinkum‖: Really genuine; legit
―Dunny‖: Toilet; I’ve only heard it said
once or twice
―You right mate?‖: Are you ok?
―She’ll be right‖: It’ll be alright
―No dramas‖: no worries; don’t worry
about it
Classes have ended for the
year, and students are finish-
ing their exams and heading
their separate ways for the
summer. I apologize that it
has taken me so long to write
another newsletter. Things
were very busy leading up to
the final few weeks of the se-
mester.
We finished the year on the
offensive rather than the natu-
ral ―let’s just get this over
with‖ attitude. On October 23,
we held an end of the year
Celebration and Vision Night.
The purpose of the night was
to gather students, parents,
and community members
together to help celebrate God
and what he has done this
year as well as to cast vision
towards 2011. The idea for the
night started off very small—
just gather a few students and
share some stories. God; how-
ever, had a different plan and
the idea quickly morphed into
a much bigger event. My
teammate Kara and I headed
up the planning for the night.
As neither of us had planned
such an event, it was definitely
a challenging undertaking.
Students shared many stories
throughout the night about
how God has impacted them
through the Student Life min-
istry this year. Students like
Jana and Tiasha shared how
both of them started out the
year without knowing Christ
to how he has changed them.
Both girls are now actively
sharing their faith with other
students! Josh, a student who
came to Christ through Stu-
dent Life in 2009, shared
about his experience in lead-
ing one of our Core Groups
this year. I have attended his
Core Group all year and have
personally seen his confidence
not only grow, but explode as
the year has progressed. Ben,
an Aussie bloke I have had the
privilege to work with this
year, shared how God has de-
veloped his heart to be more
open with his faith. God is
placing him in a strategic
place this summer as he will
live in Sydney for 4 weeks with
his aunt and uncle who do not
know the Lord.
Praise God for these 4 stu-
dent’s life change and for all
that he has done this year!

Looking t0 2011
The celebration was only half of
the time to also cast vision to
2011. We are beginning to work
on shifting the paradigm of the
students involved with Newcas-
tle Student Life. They see this
ministry as missionary led, and
rightly so, as we have been
leading almost everything this
year. We want the students to
see the University of Newcastle
as their mission field. It is only
through students that we can
