Les nouvelles de la classe

de Madame Woodward
le mois de septembre, 2019

Welcome back to FAH! My name is Tanya Woodward and I am your child’s teacher
this year. I have been teaching in the primary grades for several years now and I
am eager to get started with our Grade 2 class!

This year, I will be working on creating and updating a class website. On the
website, I will publish our monthly newsletter, important dates and some pictures
and videos of student learning. In the next week or so, please visit our class
website at: fahwoodward.weebly.com.

There will be a little bit of weekly homework this year. There will be weekly
dictations for the students to practise and there will be math and language pages
to complete. The math and language pages will alternate each week. Also, reading
in French and/or English each night is always encouraged! :) More detailed
information about our homework program will be sent home shortly.

I hope you had fun this year with your back-to-school shopping! Here are a few
items that I would like to kindly request that you send to school with your child:

- markers - pencil sharpener

- pencil crayons - one glue stick

*Please remember to label all of your child’s school supplies!

Student Agendas
On the first day of school, your child will receive his or
her agenda. This is our primary means of communication,
so please encourage your child to bring it to school each
day and keep it in the ziplock bag provided. Most days,
there will be some sort of message or reminder in your
child’s agenda. If you need to send me a message,
please do so in your child’s agenda. Thanks so much!
Daily Physical Activity - Play/Run/Walk/Jog
Each day, our class will go outside for daily physical education (play/run/walk/jog).
Please make sure that your child has appropriate clothing for outside each day
because we will be going outside rain or shine! :)

A Healthy Start
On a healthy note, every September, I like to remind parents of the importance
of having your child’s hearing and sight checked by a doctor in order to ensure the
best possible start to the school year as possible. Early detection of any health-
related concerns always helps in the long-run! :)

Language
This month, the students will be introduced to writing in their journals. I will also
complete some reading assessments and get the students started in their guided
reading groups. We will begin our Daily 4 Language activities. We will do a quick
review of sounds, blends and simple vocabulary. Our writing task this month will be
a short “All about me” project.

Math
For the month of September, we will be working on Number Sense. Some of the
important concepts we will cover are number lines, place value, rounding numbers,
addition, subtraction, simple equations and estimation. We will be doing “Number
Talks” exercises to work on mental math skills and strategies. There will be a very
short quiz at the end of the month, so please watch for this to come home, as well.

**If you have any specific questions about our Language or Math programs, please
contact me.
