Obesity Essay

In the following text, I will talk about a very globalized topic, which affects thousands of people, I
will give some examples of people who have gone through an "obesity" in a food crisis; I will make
known my point of view about this problem that affects both children and adults.

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may
have a negative effect on health. People are generally considered obese when their body mass
index (BMI), a measurement obtained by dividing a person's weight by the square of the person's
height, is over 30 kg/m2; the range 25–30 kg/m2 is defined as overweight. Some East Asian
countries use lower values. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases and conditions,
particularly cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of
cancer, osteoarthritis, and depression; Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of
excessive food intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility. A few cases are caused
primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications, or mental disorder. The view that obese
people eat little yet gain weight due to a slow metabolism is not medically supported. On average,
obese people have a greater energy expenditure than their normal counterparts due to the energy
required to maintain an increased body mass. Obesity is mostly preventable through a
combination of social changes and personal choices. Changes to diet and exercising are the main
treatments. Diet quality can be improved by reducing the consumption of energy-dense foods,
such as those high in fat or sugars, and by increasing the intake of dietary fiber. Medications can
be used, along with a suitable diet, to reduce appetite or decrease fat absorption. If diet, exercise,
and medication are not effective, a gastric balloon or surgery may be performed to reduce
stomach volume or length of the intestines, leading to feeling full earlier or a reduced ability to
absorb nutrients from food, Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, with
increasing rates in adults and children. In 2015, 600 million adults (12%) and 100 million children
were obese in 195 countries. Obesity is more common in women than in men. Authorities view it
as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. Obesity is stigmatized in
much of the modern world (particularly in the Western world), though it was seen as a symbol of
wealth and fertility at other times in history and still is in some parts of the world. In 2013, the
American Medical Association classified obesity as a disease.

The body mass index (BMI) is calculated using height and weight and is used to calculate body fat.
Starting at 25.0, the higher your BMI, the higher your risk of presenting health problems related to
obesity. These BMI ranges are used to describe levels of risk:

Overweight (not obese), if the BMI is from 25.0 to 29.9

Obesity class 1 (low risk), if the BMI is from 30 to 34.9

Obesity class 2 (moderate risk), if the BMI is from 35 to 39.9

Obesity class 3 (high risk), if the BMI is equal to or greater than 40

These people that I will mention at some point in their life suffered from obesity.

“I have never had weight problems until I was 18 years old, that's when I started taking the
contraceptive pill and, from that moment on, I gained weight little by little. The truth is that I was
very busy between meals and, surely, a part of my extra kilos was due to this bad habit. During the
youth, I was always between 65 and 70 kilos until afterward I put in 85 and I reached 104. I
contacted the Obesity Institute and began to diet with them. But one day I decided and talked to
the doctor. I wanted to quit the diet and was determined to have an operation. I did it like that. I
had a gastroplasty. You can only say that I am delighted, that I have never regretted to undergo
this treatment and I would do it if necessary. It has changed my life so much that everyone
showed them the pictures of how I was before and how I am now after the procedure. Now I
weigh 59 kilos, neither under nor up. I make five meals a day, but with small portions and each
time, I realize that the decision was the most appropriate one I have made. B Not only for the
treatment but also for carrying it out under the tutelage of a team of professionals such as those
that make up the Obesity Institute. I recommend it to everyone. I go to my reviews and I can only
say one thing I feel at home.” Marisa Gómez.

“I'm in charge at a gas station and for years I started little to gain weight. Surrounded all day of
food, satiated stress with what was at hand. All day eating until I got to weigh 167 kilos. Back and
knee pain, be standing all day, with my weight was increasingly unbearable. I got tired a lot and I
was not in good health. One day I woke up and I had lost vision in one eye. I went to work and
when I finished I went to the hospital. There they made me a TAC and I was admitted. The truth is
that from that moment I realized that I could not continue like this. Take the decision. My wife's
best friend had undergone an intervention for overweight at the Institute of Obesity and was very
satisfied and recommended the center. I did not hesitate for a minute. There they told me
everything in full detail, but I had no doubts. I did everything they proposed to me. The first thing
was to bring a gastric balloon for six months, during which time I lost 20 kilos. Subsequently, I
underwent a stomach reduction, last October. Now I weigh 124 kilos because the weight loss goes
slower, but I feel better than ever. I have stopped hurting my back and knees, I am much more
agile and with better health in general. I follow the dietary recommendations of the professionals
and I go every two weeks to control my weight and to follow the advice of the team. It has been
one of the best decisions I have made in my life, not only for deciding to end my obesity problem
that was hurting my health but for trusting in the good hands of the Obesity Institute team, whose
treatment Attention, dedication and the trust they inspire is priceless.” David Ruiz Mora

“ I am currently 34 years old and now I have to admit that I am someone else, I have gained self-
confidence, security, and happiness. All this without forgetting the ordeal that I had to go through
until I found a team of trusted professionals from the Obesity Institute. My story goes back to my
childhood. Since always, as I was growing, it also increased in size, weight. I am easy to get fat and,
to deny it, I like to eat a lot. With a height of 1.67, I got to weigh 182 kilos when I was only 22 or 23
years old, I do not remember the exact age. I know that excess weight affects mobility, but in my
case, I come from a family of farmers and I spent the day in the field I did not notice. But,
effectively, obesity has consequences that I have been paying over time. In fact, I currently have
severe back pain due to a herniated disc. When I decided to put myself in the hands of
professionals, they decided to use a gastric band to treat my obesity problem. But the
complications were happening one by one and increasingly serious. The problem is that every time
I got a puncture, they did it blindly, without imaging tests to determine how the procedure should
be. All this led me to go through the operating room on more than three occasions, which caused
a great infection and remain two years with a hole in my stomach. The specialists who treated me
on that first occasion, to every complication caused by their negligence, asked me for money to
solve it, which I denied and rightly so. That was when I decided to go to the social security to solve
the problem and there they explained to me that they had to remove the gastric band and follow
self-control of meals and exercise. The fact is that little by little, it reaches again the 131 kilos. At
that time a friend who had gone through the same trance recommended me to put myself in the
hands of the Institute of Obesity. I was terrified, everything frightened me given my previous
experience. But when I got there I found myself in a different situation. A great team that gave me
all their confidence and love. They explained to me in detail the previous mistakes made and they
told me that my choice was a tubular gastroplasty. This was two years ago. The beginnings were
hard as was originally expected given the damages caused to the stomach in the previous
interventions. Four days after surgery he had lost eight kilos, and so on until he reached 80. Now I
have a normal diet, that is to say as little but every two or three hours, and I can buy clothes until I
have some sizes left. What I regret is not having met the team of the Obesity Institute before, that
has supported me at all times and that they are true professionals. I keep going to my reviews
more and more space in time but do not hesitate to help me with any questions. Thanks to them I
have a new life, so I recommend to all people who are suffering from obesity that they know well
in the hands of professionals who place their hopes and their health, so as not to take risks.”

Obesity is one of the most globalized problems since it is caused by poor nutrition and we know
that junk food is a market that gives money among many others. It was discovered that obesity is
hereditary Research shows that genetics has a role in obesity. Genes can cause obesity directly in
disorders such as Prader-Willi síndrome, "PWS" "is the most common of the genetic disorders that
cause life-threatening obesity in children. The syndrome affects many aspects of a person's life,
including diet, behavior and mood, growth Physical and Intellectual Development The NICHD is
one of the many federal agencies and NIH Institutes working to understand PWS, and the NICHD
supports and conducts research on the factors that cause the syndrome and the best way to
diagnose and treat it. " obesity can occur either by a mental crisis (depression) or by their physical
condition, this problem can affect the economy of the person and only think about spending
money on food.

The way to fight this problem is to give awareness talks in schools and give some knowledge about
obesity so that people think twice before entering this crisis, also stop selling sodas and junk foods
in schools.
