Once again - thank you, thank you,

thank you for your patience!! I’ve

updated all subscribers and replied to
everyone who has emailed me a
request, so if you still haven’t heard
from me please feel free to reach out
again. (Just finished sending out 200+
individual emails by hand in an attempt
to avoid spam folders and filters!)
Thankfully, in response to the tech
issues and other obstacles I’ve been
experiencing by managing Hoodoo
Library access via email (see here &
here), I’ve finally come up with what I
hope will be a much simpler, smoother,
and more efficient solution going
forward (:
I created a Discord server for the
Hoodoo Library as a read-only platform
to manage access requests and share the
monthly passcode to Library
subscribers (for now, it is not a
rootwork community or chatroom).
This should make it 10x easier and
faster for me to process access requests!
I also want to share that I’ve been crazy
ass busy in a very good way. I’ve been
happy and well, and I’ve been grinding
and living my best life with good things
going on at work and at home and in
my spiritual life!
It’s just a lot of goings on to juggle all
at once, and it’s really forced me to get
offline for a bit as has happened
sometimes in the past in order for me to
get a handle on it all. My cup runneth
over, and I am soooo appreciative of
everyone’s understanding, support,
patience, and kindness <3 It makes all
the difference.
In complete transparency, I still won’t
be as active online around Tumblr as I
used to be, but I want to do everything I
can to keep the Hoodoo Library
updated and continue providing secure
and protected access to yall!
Calling on specific ancestors
Just a few thoughts based on research,
personal family folklore and legends,
and my younger brother's recent
passing:

Certain ancestors - due to their life

conditions - may be petitioned to help
you with your own issues, lifestyle,
changes or can help you in the areas of
life in which they were good at, had
sway, were knowledgeable or were
particularly, notoriously known for. So,
if for example, if you had an ancestor
that was abundantly creative, a serious
problem solver, and you needed help
finding a creative solution to a problem
or dilemma you were facing, that
ancestor may be the specific one you
petition to rather than a catch all for
every ancestor. There are some that
maybe better suited to handle a specific
type of problem you might be having.
For a more personal example, legend
abounds in my family of my
grandfathers on my maternal side being
a musical genius: he could play just
about any music he heard on his guitar.
So, in knowing this, I could petition
Pleas Terrell to aid me in certain
pursuits dealing in music or finding a
hidden talent, in becoming notorious in
the things that I'm good at. And since I
know he traveled frequently - as
evidenced by different census records
and the many places listed that he
called home - I could ask him
specifically to watch over me while I
travel.
I have another ancestor - Woodsy
Johnson - that was listed as a midwife: I
could petition her specifically to help
me in terms of health, family health,
understanding herbs, aiding me in
discovering deeper connections with
Rootwork and connecting with people
on a deeper, empathetic level.
My maternal great grandmother -
Larcine Barnes - and a grandmother on
my father's side (they didnt keep great
records, but I'm still digging) were
gardeners and farmers and, in knowing
this, I could petition them to aid in my
garden, helping me grow herbs, helping
me in my cooking, etc., etc. You kind
of get where I'm coming from, yes?
And these are just the ideas right off the
top of my head.
Of course, always remember, if you
can, get to know the stories and lives
lived of the ancestors you know and
those that you begin to become
acquainted with. Some people who died
within your family may not become
exalted ancestors, who can guide and
protect you. Some may, put simply,
abuse or manipulate you as that was the
life they lead and the spirit that they
carried with them into death.
However, in some ways, I know that
there are some members of my family
that would mean me no harm, but didn't
live the greatest life conditions: some
folks looked after me and were kind to
me, but were more than willing to be
vindictive or manipulative to people
outside of myself or their immediate
family. Like, say my maternal
grandmother, who I learned was a
brothel madame, was tough-as-nails
and quick to pistol-whip anyone that
crossed her. She could be mean, but
honestly, she really didn't harm me any.
So, if I needed to (and with caution), I
could petition her specifically to aid in
a particularly strong curse or hex, but
that's not the sum total of her life and
there is definitely more I could petition
her specifically for: business acumen,
authority, business dealings and
negotiations that require a cool head
and no nonsense attitude, the ability to
persevere through tough times.
So, once again, while practicing
caution, you may be able to petition
those less-than-savory ancestors to aid
in works, such as curses or tricks or
hexes. It will entirely depend on that
ancestor or ancestors, and your
connection to them.

As with anything: be extremely careful

when dealing with spirits - even
ancestors; have a good protection for
yourself, and never leap on the first
ancestor or family member's spirit to
offer their help as - like I said - if you're
not sure about their life or who they
were, you don't know what you could
be bringing into your space. There are
some family members I KNOW not to
call upon in ANY capacity because I
am well aware of what shitty people
they were and so I steer clear. However,
if you know the ancestor or spirit, and
know that they won't mean you harm,
full steam ahead, I suppose
