Family is Everything

I chose to follow Kamala Harris’s presence on both instagram and twitter. Harris has an

extremely active social media presence with many tweets every day and at least one if not more

every single day on instagram. Harris, like most people, uses her social media for all sorts of

purposes. Though she is a political candidate and often fills her social media with political posts

and campaign information, Harris always makes sure to include posts that show her more human,

empathetic side of her life, her family. This week, Harris was extremely active in terms of

posting about her family and their relationships. She posted a picture of her hugging her niece

with the caption “I love being an auntie”. She also posted wishing her sister and her

brother-in-law a happy anniversary. On top of that, Harris also posted a video of her interview on

morning Joe where she said “family is everything to me” followed by a heartfelt speech about

the role they play in her life and her journey. As a presidential candidate this balance between

your personal life and your campaign is an extremely important one because it helps to make a

candidate seem more human and relatable. The importance of family is something that no one

can deny so by talking about her relationship with her family, Harris is making herself a more

relatable and likeable candidate. It also shows her to be an extremely caring and loving person,

which a lot of people find very important when they vote because it means that she will make

decisions with the good of others in mind.
