TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!

Welcome to fourth grade in Miss Hill’s class! Our theme for the year is “Together we can
change the world.” In our classroom, we work together to learn, grow, and develop into bright
individuals. I have used this theme to make learning and following the expectations more fun and
consistent for the class.

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
Students are expected to be respectful, responsible, peaceful, kind, and safe at all times. We
will be developing a poster together of what it looks like to be respectful, responsible, peaceful,
kind, and safe so that all students know the expectations. I record both whole group and
individual student behavior.

-Whole Group-
Our class goal is to complete a bingo charts with 10 squares in a row. Each day, I have the
numbers “1 2 3” on the front whiteboard. Anytime students are not meeting classroom
expectations, I take a number from the board, starting with 3, then 2, then 1. At the end of
class, however many numbers are left on the board is how many numbers they get to color in. If
none get taken down, they would get 3 numbers to choose on the class bingo board. When they
get 10 numbers in a row, they earn a prize! We decide the prize ahead of time and it is written
on the board to remind them what they are working toward.

-Individual Student-
I will be following the district behavior plan to track individual student behavior and keep a log
for each child. Parents will be notified of formal warnings and detentions, which are only given
as necessary.

-Bucket Fillers-
Students are also rewarded with good choices. Those who go above and beyond to be respectful,
responsible, peaceful, kind, and safe are rewarded with “Bucket Fillers”. These tickets are
turned in as they are awarded. We will keep a running count of the tickets, as there are school-
wide prizes for every 25, 50, 75, and 100 tickets. Teachers, bus drivers, specials teachers,
lunch supervisors, as well as any other staff members can give out Bucket Fillers when they see
positive choices being made. Students can nominate their classmates as well. We want Troy
Craughwell to be free of bullying and full of kind deeds and respectful, responsible, peaceful,
kind, and safe behavior.
kind, and safe behavior.

HOMEWORK
Something new this year to Troy Craughwell is a “No Homework” policy. We will be following the
school-wide policy of not sending work home that the students need to complete and return. We
do, however, still encourage students to read, write, and practice math facts at home. Some
suggestions for parents may include online sites such as XtraMath, IXL, Prodigy, and RazKids.
Students can also play Origo Math games, free write, or journal.

PLANNERS
Another Troy Craughwell change this year is the elimination of a student planner. Planners will
no longer need to be filled out daily, signed, and returned the next day. Notes will be sent home
from either the office or myself to remind families of important events. I will also be using the
“REMIND” app which can be accessed via cell phone. I find this app to be a great means of
communication between home and school. Watch for a note coming home regarding signup!

MAIL
Students will take mail home each day. As notes are handed out and work is graded, it will be
filed in each child’s own mailbox. Students will bring mail home in the red Take Home Folder.
Please make a habit to check folders daily for any graded work, classroom and office notes,
book orders, etc.

SNACK
Due to the increasing number of severe and life-threatening food allergies in our school, we will
NOT be having a snack in the classroom. Please see that your child has a hearty and healthy
breakfast and lunch. I do allow water bottles filled with water only to be used as needed.

BIRTHDAYS
Birthdays are special and deserve recognition. If your child would like to celebrate his/her
birthday at school, please steer away from food as birthday treats. Some other ideas are to
send pencils, erasers, or donate a book or recess game to the classroom.

BOOK ORDERS
I will send home monthly flyers from Scholastic Book Clubs. If you wish to order books from
the flyers, you may do so online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs Class Code: VZBMM or by
sending your cash/check and order form to school by the given due date. Instructions for
ordering online will go home with each catalog every month. Our class earns points for free
books when you order. The more orders we have, the more free books we get for the classroom!

CLASS WEBSITE
I will have a website for our class. On the website, you will find monthly happenings, a link to our
class newsletter, class schedule, important reminders, links for educational sites for students
that are explained below, as well as my contact information. I will send out updates when the
site is live.

REMIND
I have set up a classroom account on the Remind App. I will send these messages out before
important events, dates, or reminders going on in the class. You can sign up using the Remind
App on your phone or on the website. Search for Miss Hill’s 4th Grade Class and join it. I can
also send home a hard copy of how to log on if needed.

EDUCATIONAL SITES
I will be registering each student for MobyMax, Prodigy, IXL and other educational websites
that can be used at both school and home. Students will receive a username and password for
each website, so please hold onto this information as it comes home and keep it in a safe place!

CONTACT INFORMATION
I am always eager to discuss your child’s academic, emotional, and any other needs with you.
Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. We need to work together as a
