Course Description:
Video and Media Technology, introduces students to the study of mass media communication: radio, film,
television, video, and internet media. Students have the opportunity to produce their own videos and radio projects
and possibly participate in live broadcasts on Chanel 6 News on campus. Class discussion focuses on the power of
the mass media in society and the evolution of cinema. Students are encouraged to develop skills to critically
analyze and evaluate media messages as both consumer and producer. Units include media production, advertising,
legal and ethical practices of the industry, radio practicum, and filmmaking.

CTE Completer Assessment


Any student identified as a CTE Completer/Finisher will sit for an industry credential test. An industry credential test any be any industry
certification examination, licensure or occupational competency assessment as approved by the Virginia Board of Education. Students
identified will take the Workplace Readiness Exam

Instructional Approach:
Students in Video Media Technology, will apply the principles of design in the creation of images. Students
explore the development of video as a communication medium and its evolution into the digital realm.
Investigation focuses on career exploration and the application of film and media across various industries. This
class is mostly a project based learning classroom using hands on activities, software from the Adobe Creative
Cloud Suite with focus on Adobe Auditions, and Photoshop, Premier and Open Shot video editor.

Student Learning Goals:


1. To give students the tools to make positive decisions about technology based on an understanding of digital
citizenship and the importance of reflective practices.

2. To allow students to explore a variety of careers that involve the use of video/film and editing skills.

3. Discuss and explore Ethics Law within Technology

4. Students will use both laptops and classroom computers to aid in learning the processes of the industry.

5. Students are highly encouraged to work together in this class to foster a higher level of learning and
understanding of material Students will study basic techniques of radio journalism.

6. Students will study basic techniques of TV journalism, film, radio and production phases.
Assessment Plan:

Projects: 40% Classwork/ Participation: 35% Quizzes :10% Tests :15%

LATE WORK: I do understand that emergency situations may prevent a student from turning in an
assignment on time. In these emergency situations, a student may submit a daily assignment no more than 2
days late.
• Classwork: If student is present in class OR has been present for class, I will NOT accept late assignments.
This results in a zero for the assignment UNLESS I have spoken to the parent and the student about the
assignment. I will give ample class time to complete each assignment.
• Project: If there is a special circumstance, I will take the project for full credit. If student was present
in class for the amount of time the project was given, and the project is still late. Student may submit
project with 30pt off. Maximum of 70% for the grade
• NO HOMEWORK GIVEN FOR THIS CLASS ☺

Cheating and Plagiarism is not tolerated and will result in a ZERO for the assignment. I will contact
the parent and notify the grade level administrator.
