refrigerator in which the air temperature is 2°C. If the heat transfer coefficient between the air and
the orange surface is 50 W/m2 K, determine the time required for the centre of the orange to reach
10°C. Assume the thermal properties of the orange are the same as those of water at the same
temperature (α_ =1.4 x 10-7 m2/s and k= 0.59 W/m K). (5 M)

6. (a) Water at 15°C (ρ = 999.1 kg/m3 and μ = 1.138 x10-3 kg/m s) is flowing in a 4-cm-diameter and 30-
m long horizontal pipe made of stainless steel steadily at a rate of 5 kg/s. Determine (i) the pressure

be of turbulent nature from the very leading edge of plate. (6 M)

(b) The outer Surface of a vertical cylinder drum of 350 mm diameter is exposed to saturated steam
at 2.0 bar for condensation. Rate of condensation is 70 kg/h. The drum surface is maintained at
80°C. Determine (i) the height of the drum and (ii) the thickness of condensate layer? (6 M)

cooling water are 25°C and 75°C respectively. If the water side resistance to flow is negligible,
calculate the tube length required for this duty. For turbulent flow inside tubes, you can use:
