ICT in Health Care

Nowadays, technology is reshaping the world, leading us to an advanced and sophisticated

technical world. The appearance of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has
created a vast amount of impact in Health Care that are crucial to the development of services and
poverty reduction. These are some of the impacts made by ICT in improving the health of the most
poor and exposed to many diseases: (1) Improved spread of public health information, (2) Enabled
distant consultations through telemedicine, (3) More effective health research, (4) Strengthened
ability to monitor public health threats, and (5) Improved efficiency of administrative systems.

There are various advantages of incorporating ICT in healthcare such as better access to
total and accurate EHR (Electronic Health Record) that collects information to improve diagnoses,
prevent errors and thus save precious response times. It also leads to greater patients’ engagement
in their own healthcare. ICT in healthcare research helps in finding the possible prevention
measures to eradicate and reduce the spread of diseases. This saves the lives of many individuals
by providing treatment in advance. Through ICT, the traditional healthcare systems can be
eliminated, and new models can be formed for effective quality care.

ICT helps the hospital management to lead the organization in a successful way. This helps
the management to overcome the challenges faced by the hospital. ICT helps the management to
improve the patient safety and satisfaction, get updated to the latest technology, have a knowledge
on population health and statistics and keep a note on the government mandates on
track. Information and Communication Technology offers various ways to improvise the health
care system. A smart, careful and contextual integration of ICT in delivery of health care service
should be a prioritized strategy to aid complex health needs of the world with more than a billion
people.
