WSO2 Subscriptions
A WSO2 Subscription provides a comprehensive commercial package for WSO2’s open source
products, maximizing the value you get from the products. Each subscription includes:

1) Access and license for WSO2 Updates delivered through the WSO2 Update Manager
(WUM) and other channels. Updates provide preventative maintenance by eliminating
known bugs and vulnerabilities before they impact your system. Subscribers have ac-
cess to confidential security bulletins alerting you to potential vulnerabilities as well as
early access to security updates.
2) 24x7x365 incident support, providing reactive maintenance for any incidents affecting
your production systems. We offer aggressive response and resolution times based on
issue severity, and no limits on the number of tickets you can raise. Resolutions often
include the creation and delivery of a new update.
3) 1 business day support for general queries about product usage, development or migra-
tion advice, product tuning, or best practices. Query support is subject to hourly caps.
4) Every annual subscription includes a level of query support proportional to the subscrip-
tion fees. The query hour limit can be raised for a reasonable charge at any time.
5) Access to other Subscriber-only value-added content and services.

Subscription services cover all WSO2 product deployments, with fees assessed based on the
number of cores (plus core equivalents, for WSO2 Cloud) across your on-premise and WSO2
Cloud deployments and production and pre-production environments.

WSO2 API Manager: Microgateway Profile, WSO2 API Manager for Istio, WSO2 Enterprise In-
tegrator: Micro Integrator, and WSO2 Siddhi are designed for dynamic container environments
and the annual fee allows any number of instances to be deployed, within a single site (data
center or availability zone), in increments of 1 billion transactions per month. For the Micro-
gateway a transaction is an API call, for Micro Integrator a transaction is an incoming request,
and for Siddhi a transaction is an incoming event.

Each subscription also covers, at no extra fee:

- Bursting of on-premise production systems by up to 25% more cores, lasting for up to 3
cumulative days during the subscription year
- Up to 3 pre-production environments, one of which can be hosted in WSO2 Cloud
- Individual development machines, though please note that issues arising on such sys-
tems qualify for query support rather than incident support SLAs
- Analytics Profiles
- Passive instances in an active/passive deployment
- Disaster recovery systems
- Query support hours up to a level proportional to the subscription fee

The pricing schedule in effect at the time of entering a Subscription is maintained through fu-
ture renewals, subject to a 5% increase for each renewal. We offer renewal periods of one,
WSO2 Price List (EUR) 5 Effective August 1, 2019
two, or three years to limit the frequency of such increases. Multi-year periods paid up front
qualify for an additional 3% discount. Micro cloud deployments may be paid monthly via credit
card; Standard cloud deployments may be paid annually by credit card or invoiced.

Please contact us for a copy of our Support Services Policy or a customized deployment de-
sign and instance count.

WSO2 Cloud
Deployment on the WSO2 Cloud is calculated on “core equivalents” based on usage metrics
specific to the type of cloud service. These core equivalents are additively counted towards
your core allotment and subject to your tier price. WSO2 customers can migrate between our
public cloud and their on-premises deployment. Of the three pre-production environments in-
cluded in a subscription, one may be hosted in WSO2 Cloud at no extra cost. The Micro tier
does not qualify for any pre-prod environments.

A customer purchasing only a Micro tier may pay via credit card monthly or annually. Higher ti-
ers require annual purchases via credit card or PO.

WSO2 Managed Cloud Hosting

WSO2 Managed Cloud Hosting is an optional service in which WSO2 hosts and maintains WSO2
products for which the customer has purchased a production support subscription. Each sys-
tem is managed within your datacenter, or installed and hosted on private, dedicated instances
of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, which can either be provided by the cus-
tomer, or acquired and billed through WSO2. Hosting fees are calculated as a surcharge based
on subscription fees (including Open Banking surcharges), subject to an annual minimum.

The service includes:

• Hosting setup: set up of the hosting account, virtual machines and networking.
• Optimizing hosting setup to minimize resource consumption and scale the
environment to meet performance requirements.
• Product deployment: deployment of the purchased WSO2 products.
• Performance tuning and optimization of WSO2 software components.
• Product updates and maintenance: updates of the hosted WSO2 products to their
latest version.
• Regular backups: daily scheduled backups of all the servers under Managed Cloud.
• Monitoring: WSO2 personnel monitoring WSO2 Managed Cloud availability and
taking actions if the servers become unavailable.
• Support: support account may be used for reporting incidents relating to hosting.
The SLA may be found at https://wso2.com/cloud/managed/sla.
• Setup of pre-production environments (3 included at no additional fee.)
WSO2 Price List (EUR) 6 Effective August 1, 2019
• Setup of VPN or datacenter extensions charged separately.

A “Lite” version of this service is available for environments that conform to the following limi-
tations:

• The environment consists of 2-5 instances of a single WSO2 product deployed

according to WSO2 best practices (no client-specific customizations.)
• A single staging environment will be provided.
• AWS only; limited to a single region.

Interested customers should verify they meet the prerequisites for Managed Cloud Hosting
found at https://docs.wso2.com/display/ManagedCloud/Planning.

Technical Account Management

Premium support service is provided by allocating a Technical Account Manager to your ac-
count. The TAM acts as your named, primary point of contact for WSO2 support. Each TAM is
a member of WSO2’s elite technical support team, providing you priority responses to your
WSO2 product queries and issues, assisting to analyze, reproduce, and isolate issues and re-
solve them or coordinate a resolution or bug fix with the WSO2 support and product teams.

As a named contact, you have access to priority support from your TAM through email, phone,
and chat in addition to the WSO2 online support system.

Part-time TAMs have a dedicated schedule to provide guaranteed availability during a pre-
agreed weekly schedule, as a portion of work hours in your time zone.

At higher levels of engagement, your Subscription’s query support limits are waived.

When a TAM is onsite, all travel and expense costs are included.

WSO2 Integration Agile Consultancy
Integration projects today typically follow a time-consuming waterfall model, ill-suited to solv-
ing complex and ever-changing integration challenges. WSO2 has developed organizational,
project management, and technical expertise to help IT organizations transform integration
projects to a more efficient and scalable continuous agile approach.

The WSO2 Methodology for Agility codifies WSO2’s proven approach to helping every develop-
ment organization become an integration agile organization. WSO2 can help you adopt this
methodology through a WSO2 Integration Agile Consultancy engagement, tailored to your cur-
rent state, goals and desired outcomes. The engagement starts with a pre-assessment during
which we develop a customized integration agility engagement plan covering the full imple-
mentation lifecycle for organizational and technical changes.

All engagements commence with a two-day pre-assessment of an organization’s current state

according to WSO2’s Integration Agility maturity model. This effort is led by a Principal Consult-
ant, with assessment results shared with the customer and appropriate for internal socializa-
tion, including:

Goal and Outcome setting: Mapping out iterative, achievable steps to improve agility to
the desired level of maturity.
People and Culture Recommendations: Organizational and change-management
recommendations driving a shift from ad-hoc and waterfall development to an
organization structured for continuously agile operation.
Process Recommendations: Assess the current state of waterfall vs. agile (and others)
and recommend a path to evolve to a more integration agile set of development, release
and maintenance procedures.
WSO2 Price List (EUR) 10 Effective August 1, 2019
Technology and Architecture Recommendations: WSO2 helps establish development
and integration processes to move from a layered architecture to an advanced cell-based
architecture, toward the end goal of continuous agility where teams can develop and
integrate in parallel.
Digital Alignment Review: The results of an engagement can be seen in better IT
alignment with the business, and in a more competitive, adaptive business overall.

API Hackathon-in-a-box
Launching an API platform is just the start of the journey – it will only be as successful as its user
community. Hackathons provide a great way to engage with this community, to inspire new
ways to use the APIs, and have proven to be successful in accelerating and increasing adoption.
WSO2 can work with you to hold a successful hackathon for your APIs by leveraging our exper-
tise in organizing and executing technical events large and small.

It's a simple step-by-step approach and entails the following key elements:

• Providing a proven base agenda to customize to your needs and audience, keynoted
with your pitch to the attendees about the scope and power of your API platform
• Providing marketing support prior to, during, and after the event
• Handling registrations
• Providing API experts for “walk-around” support during the hackathon
• Providing JIRA system for collecting issues and feature requests
• Organizing event conclusion activities – judging, awards, networking
• Review the event with you to extract actionable feedback

The API Hackathon-in-a-box is pre-configured as a single day-long (12 hour) event appealing to
both internal and external audiences. Please ask our team for more information about what is
included and how we can customize it to your goals.

Consultancy Services
WSO2 offers daily, weekly, and monthly consulting rates. WSO2 Consultants act effectively as a

ogy and organizational change.
Platform Architect: Architect with expertise spanning the WSO2 platform.

WSO2 Price List (EUR) 11 Effective August 1, 2019

Operational Specialist: Expertise in deployment topics such as production hardening,
implementing security, and monitoring (DevOps).
Business Analyst: Expertise in translating high level business goals and domain-specific
into technology requirements and execution plans.
Delivery Manager: Provide your project manager a single point of contact with WSO2,
to assist in planning, establishing clear milestones and dependencies, monitoring pro-
gress daily, and addressing any coordination issues across complex multidisciplinary
teams.

Please work with our sales and solution architecture teams to determine the optimum mix of
consultants for your project.

All consulting rates include travel and expenses. For engagements of less than one month,
there is a fixed on-site administrative fee (one time per consultant per engagement) that covers
all administrative and travel expenses.

For projects that engage consultants for more than two months we have found a more system-
atic approach critical to a successful engagement. We recommend that such long-term engage-
ments are paired with:

- A QuickStart
- Quarterly Architecture Reviews
- Go-Live Support during critical production milestones
- Subscription support throughout

Component Duration Description

Kickoff Quick- 5 days on- At project commencement, we recommend commencing the en-
Start site gagement with a week onsite to establish a solid shared vision and
prepare the scope and project success. Our normal QuickStart
package can be adapted to this purpose, as follows:

Architectural Workshop (2 days): Part of our commitment to

providing ongoing architectural support, we dedicate an experi-
enced technical architecture owner and a lead consultant from
WSO2 to the project. WSO2 architectural training and best prac-
tices are shared, and the project goals, requirements, technology,
deployment environment, and development process are developed
and confirmed over a 2-day on-site engagement.

Foundation Lab (3 days): With the architecture and project require-

ments in place, we proceed with a Foundational Lab, preparing en-

vironments, systems, training on basic usage and configuration, de-
velopment systems, process, and governance to prepare a solid
foundation for the project development work.

Quarterly Review 2 days on- We provide a quarterly onsite review with a Platform Architect to
Package site per iteratively adapt the architecture to accommodate changing re-
quarter quirements or issues and catch any problems before they take root.

Go-live Support 1 month We have found augmenting the consulting team with an Opera-
on-site tional Specialist for at least 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after the ini-
tial production go-live date provides a predictable and solid release.

Migration Sup- On-site In order to help you migrate to a new major version of a WSO2
port product, which is beneficial to us as well as you, we offer short-
term on-site consulting at a special rate.

Depending upon the nature of the engagement and other scheduling constraints, WSO2
may rotate personnel at minimum one-month intervals to better target expertise
relevant to the various technologies and stages of the project.
For complex projects, we recommend engaging a WSO2 Delivery Manager to coordinate
between development, operations, business and third party stakeholders.
A monthly consulting service consists of 20 consulting days.
Naturally, we only offer consultancy services to customers committed to obtaining a
Subscription for the successful deployment.

Custom Development and Open Source Sponsorship

WSO2 also offers custom development services for the purpose of building configurations, ex-
tensions, connectors, or other features on top of the WSO2 platform.

For certain features that can be usefully committed back to an Open Source project and thus
shared productively with other customers, we can offer a 50% Open Source discount. These
discounts are only available if:

the resulting work is going to be contributed back to the corresponding open source
projects,
the work is aligned to the project's roadmap and WSO2's priorities, and
the work is generally applicable to the entire community and not to one customer.

Please contact us for a consultation on project scope, timeline, and an estimate of cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
This is just open source? Why do I need a WSO2 Subscription?
Yes, WSO2's products are pure open source under the Apache Software License. You can down-
load the latest release, source code, or nightly builds and use these freely. All enterprise fea-
tures are included as open source in the release, and there are community support options
available. WSO2 works to ensure using our products as free open source is a viable option.

However, we all face a tradeoff between time and money. Maintaining a deployment takes
time – time to gain expertise, time to track potential security vulnerabilities, time to trace prob-
lems and potentially make fixes in the source code, build, test, and deploy a custom distribu-
tion. Bearing the individual cost of building and maintaining a team ready to engage 24x7 when
a critical situation such as downtime occurs is prohibitive. Our subscription services offer good
value because we share the expense of building such systems and providing such services
across many customers. This community of Subscribers benefits from shared knowledge, best
practices, the investment in rapid-response global support services, and distribution of updates
resolving issues and providing prophylactic fixes. In return we ask for a reasonable amount of
money to maintain our business and re-invest in product improvements.

I've got my system tested and I'm ready to go into production. If it has passed my tests, why
do I need a WSO2 Subscription?
If you are using any WSO2 Updates, then you must obtain a subscription – the WSO2 Update
License does not allow you to use these updates outside the free trial. WSO2 updates address
known issues or potential security vulnerabilities, and Subscribers benefit from early and ongo-
ing access to these improvements.

Bug and security fixes are rolled into the next public release, but Subscribers receive these fixes
as Updates which address the issue within their current version. WSO2 supported versions are
eligible for updates for as long as 10 years. Subscribers can take advantage of fixes without
ceding control of their upgrade cycles.

WSO2 stands by Subscribers to work with you on a 24x7 basis to resolve any issue that arises
and provide the fastest fix available – reducing risk of an extended outage which could damage
your business operations, customer experience, reputation, or bottom line. Support issues are
handled confidentially in a secure, private forum in our support system.

If these and other benefits are attractive to you, we recommend obtaining a Subscription for
your deployment.

I did not use up the query limit in my subscription. Can these hours be rolled over into the
next term?

WSO2 Price List (EUR) 14 Effective August 1, 2019

No. We provide a built-in limit that we expect will sufficient for most customers and have
priced it accordingly. We offer top-up packages to eliminate the risk buying more than you
need before renewal resets the query support limit.

I've found and reported a bug through my support account. Will it use up my query support
hours?
No. If a query is determined to represent a bug in the product or documentation, we will move
the issue to our product JIRA and resolve it there at no charge to you.

My system is in production and I have a WSO2 Subscription. Now I'm working on some fur-
ther enhancements or new applications. Can I ask questions about those?
Yes. Every subscription includes queries for the express purpose of answering questions about
new development, upgrades, migration, and other matters that are not causing an immediate
impact on your production systems. In addition, if you are considering additional WSO2 prod-
ucts you are eligible for a Free Trial to gain access to updates and support to assist with your
evaluation.

My system is not yet in production. Why do I need a WSO2 Subscription before production
deployment?

The WSO2 Subscription is the basic engagement between you and WSO2 and includes a license
to WSO2 Updates which we recommend using during both development time and in your pre-
production environments. A subscription for at least one instance of each product provides
quick answers that arise during development, rapid resolution of incidents affecting production
or shared pre-production systems, and is a pre-requisite for many optional additional services
such as a QuickStart or Managed Cloud.

What is the basic definition of a “core”?

A: A core measures a single hardware hyperthread. Modern CPUs usually have multiple physi-
cal processing units as well as hyperthreading which exposes each processing unit as one or
more logical processors. For example many of our desktop machines have at least a dual-core
processor. With hyperthreading enabled this is exposed as 4 logical processors, which maps to
4 cores for purposes of costing out a WSO2 subscription. Operating system utilities generally
show the capabilities as a count of “logical processors” or “threads.” Virtualized environments
have analogs.

Are the number of instances per core limited?

No. You can run as many instances of any WSO2 Integration Agile Platform products or profiles
as you wish within the core allotment. WSO2 solution architects can help you design a mapping

WSO2 Price List (EUR) 15 Effective August 1, 2019

of WSO2 product instances to virtual machines and determining the size of these virtual ma-
chines to achieve your performance and reliability goals.

How do we measure cores for bare metal?

Hardware server environments generally have a utility showing the count of sockets, cores, and
logical processors or hyperthreads. The number of logical processors maps to a core count for
purposes of costing out a WSO2 Subscription.

How do we measure cores in Amazon EC2?

Amazon EC2 can be purchased in a variety of Instance Types, which each specify a number of
default virtual CPUs (vCPUs). For instance a t2.xlarge instance has 4 default vCPUs. Each de-
fault vCPU counts as one core for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription, even if you configure the
instance to use a lower number of cores or threads.

How do we measure cores in Docker?

A Docker container by default utilizes the full capability of the host machine, and core counts
will be determined by that host environment. By using the --cpus option a Docker container
can be constrained to specific maximum utilization of the host environment’s capabilities. The
maximum utilization maps into cores for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription. Fractional amounts
are allowed both by Docker and within the WSO2 Subscription, e.g. three docker containers
constrained by the --cpus=1.5 option will map into a Subscription for 4.5 cores.

How do we measure cores in Kubernetes?

A Kubernetes “CPU unit” counts as a core for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription. A CPU Unit
usually maps to an underlying Amazon vCPU, an Azure vCore, a GCP Core, or a bare metal hy-
perthread.

How do we measure cores in Azure?

An Azure “vCore” or “vCPU” counts as a core for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription.

How do we measure cores in Google Cloud?

A GCP Machine Type specifies compute units in vCPUs; Each vCPU counts as one core for pur-
poses of a WSO2 Subscription.

How do we measure cores in VMWare?

Each VSphere vCPU counts as one core for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription.

Each OpenStack vCPU counts as one core for purposes of a WSO2 Subscription.

Can I run multiple JVMs within a single server or VM?

Yes, for instance an 8-core server which hosts both WSO2 API Manager and WSO2 Enterprise
Integrator JVMs is still priced at 8 cores.

Can I adjust my core allotment upwards and downwards to handle seasonal bursts?
You can adjust your core allotment upwards at any time, for a prorated fee. In addition you are
allowed 25% additional cores for bursting for up to 3 cumulative days during the year. A sea-
sonal burst lasting beyond 3 days would require you to expand your Subscription. We support
bursting up and down at prorated Subscription fees for Managed Cloud customers. If you have
seasonal traffic you might consult with your Account Manager on whether you qualify for an
Enterprise Level Agreement (ELA) which typically includes additional headroom during a term.

What level of support for WSO2 Developer Studio and other tooling is included in my sub-
scription?
Queries can be used for inquiries about WSO2 Developer Studio and other tooling provided
with your product.

I have a cluster of ten product instances. Can I have one product under Subscription and run
the other nine instances as Open Source?
No. Our contractual terms do not allow this; WSO2 Updates may only be used on instances un-
der subscription at the time. You can run all ten instances as Open Source without a subscrip-
tion, but if you want support and a license for updates you must take a subscription that covers
all of the systems. We know from experience that large deployments are more complex and
much of our development effort goes towards clustering, administration, performance testing
and tuning, and our prices scale accordingly.

I am using several different WSO2 products. Can I put some types of product under Subscrip-
tion and use other types without support?
No. Our ability to retain simple pricing models is based on proportionality of fees to the actual
scale of use – picking and choosing a mix of supported and unsupported products circumvents
this model. Subscription revenue funds the continued development of the platform, just as li-
cense revenue does for proprietary software. We retain the option to refuse to offer or renew
support for customers that are unwilling to engage in a commercial relationship with us propor-
tional to their scale.

We underestimate our WSO2 usage at the beginning of the year and end up deploying more
than our Subscription allows. How will I be charged for the extra instances or users?

When your installation expands beyond the limits in your Subscription, please notify us
promptly, as exceeding the limits noted in the Subscription agreement can result in violation of
the WSO2 Update license and/or a suspension of support services. The Subscription agreement
allows you to expand usage limits on a prorated basis.

We also offer Enterprise License Agreements that make expansion during the term easier.

Are Subscription inflationary price increases limited?

Yes. Your per-core subscription fees are limited to an increase of 5%, assessed each time your
subscription renews. Within the renewal term the per-core subscription price tiers are fixed,
and additional cores may be added at a proration of these prices. To limit the frequency of
these price increases, we offer renewal terms of up to 3 years. A multi-year subscription offers
a permanently lower baseline price which continues to offer savings through the extended life-
time of the subscription.

What are the consequences of allowing my Subscription to lapse?

Our products are all Apache-licensed open source, so you are free to continue to use the prod-
ucts without a Subscription. WSO2 Updates however are only licensed for use during the term
of the Subscription. Prior to discontinuing your Subscription you will have to migrate onto a
purely open source distribution. If certain fixes are critical you may opt to build your own distri-
bution from the source code. When your Subscription ends, you can continue to use the prod-
ucts freely, as long as you have removed all dependence on Updates. You will no longer have
access to updates, security bulletins, support, or other Subscription services.

If my Subscription lapses, can I restart it at any time?

Yes, though with caveats. We are always happy to welcome you back as a customer. However,
our Subscription fees are determined on the expectation of continuous operation, not on the
basis of purchasing it on demand when issues arise. Thus we always backdate the Subscription
to the expiration date. There is therefore no financial advantage to allowing a lapse, just the
possibility of delays in providing services while the Subscription is being restored.

Does the WSO2 Managed Cloud price include configuration and customization?
The hosting price includes product installation and basic configuration of admin users and net-
work, but does not include additional development, customization or integration services.
