EXPERIMENT
OBJECT:-
To verify Newton’s law of cooling.
APPARATUS:-
Calorimeter with stirrer, Half degree centigrade thermometer, Stop-watch, Vertical stand, Beaker
containing water.
WORKING FORMULA:-
Δ
COOLING CONSTANT = k =
Where, ΔT = fall of temperature in one minute. Tr = Room temperature.
Tm = mean temperature of hot body during one minute interval.
APPARATUS:-
Calorimeter with stirrer, Half degree centigrade thermometer, Stop-watch, Vertical stand, Beaker
containing water.

OBSERVATION :-
Least count of thermometer = 0.5 0C; Room temperature = Tr = ---------------- 0C
Initial Temperature of hot body = Tr + 40 = --------0C

CALCULATION :- Calculate cooling constant for 5th, 10th,15th minute from graph.
Δ
1) Cooling Constant for 5th minute k= =__________
Δ
2) Cooling Constant for 10th minute k = =__________
Δ
3) Cooling Constant for 15th minute k = = __________
RESULT :- The graph between time and temperature is a smooth curve and the value of cooling constant is almost
same within experimental error for different time interval from graph. Hence Newton’s law of cooling is verified.
