As the name tells you, this is a series of numbers that denote the various locations within a warehouse
To find a product within a big warehouse, first thing to do is to identify the “Zone” where the product is being placed
Once the zone is identified, the next is to identify the right “Aisle”
The next is to identify the right “rack” among many racks in one Aisle
Next is to identify the “level” in a rack Then, the position of the inventory
There are 2 types of Numbering mainly, as per the structure of your warehouse
This numbering is applicable if there is only one Aisle at the floor/at one
location
F1 : 1st Floor
R1 – R4 : Racks
For example, if you need to select one inventory from this set of inventories,
as given, the corresponding numbering must be,
R2 (3.2) F1
v2. Aisle Numbering
This numbering is applicable if there is more than one Aisle at the
same floor/at one same location
F1 : 1st Floor
R1 – R4 : Racks
A1 – A4 : Aisle
For example, if you need to select one inventory from this set of
inventories, as given, the corresponding numbering must be,
A2 (R2 : 1.2) F1
The numbering should never make complications to the entire warehouse processing. Unique identification number is a must in order to avoid wrong picking. Even if a
human feels it complicated, the system may feel it comfortable. Be simple when you number your warehouse locations.
