SCHOOL-BASED SCIENCE FAIR


Theme: “Enabling technologies for sustainable development”

GUIDELINES FOR THE 2019 SCHOOL-BASED SCIENCE FAIR

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. This event is open to all students of Tuguegarao City Science High School-
JHS.
2. YES-O officers are not permitted to join any contests in the said events.
3. Participants in their respective event are the only students to be excused
in that day.
4. Participants must be in the venue 10 minutes before the allotted time of
the contest.
5. Time slots of contests are subject to change.
6. Participation in all events is a must and deductions will be imposed to
sections who will fail to have a participant to a certain event.
7. Every student is required to join at least one (1) contest.
8. All contests shall compose of two divisions; the junior division and the
senior division.
9. For the computation of the overall scores, the following shall be observed:

• Every section will have an initial score of one hundred (100) points,
which may increase or decrease depending on the performance of the
students comprising the group.
• Eighty (80) points shall be given for the 1st place; sixty (60) points for the
2nd place, forty (40) points for the 3rd place and twenty (20) points for
participation.
• For every event that a section does not join or have no representatives
whatsoever, a twenty (20) point demerit shall be given.
QUIZ BEE (TEAM)
1. Each section must have two teams comprised of three (3) members.
2. The category with the corresponding participants are as follows:
Earth and Space, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Current events, and
General information
3. There will be 3 rounds in the contest:
Easy- 10 questions; 1 point each
Average- 5 questions; 3 points each
Difficult- 5 questions; 5 points each
4. All questions will be read twice by the Quiz Master. Contestants will write
their answers on their slates (1/8 illustration board) after the question is
read twice.
5. Contestants may start answering only after the Quiz Masters signals GO.
They must stop writing answers after the time allotments: 15 seconds for
the Easy round, 20 seconds for the Average round, and 30 seconds for the
Difficult round.
6. All queries about the question (considerations) will only be entertained by
the Quiz Master right after the question.
7. All queries should be backed up by proofs that are not outsourced from
the Wikipedia. The quiz master has the right to consider or not consider the
query.
8. The TOP THREE (3) groups for junior (Grade 7, 8) and senior division (Grade 9,
10) will be proclaimed WINNERS after the contest.
9. Winners will be proclaimed after the contest.
POSLOGAN MAKING CONTEST

1. Each section should be represented by 2 students (1 team).


2. The poster should revolve around the theme of the competition.
3. Medium for the visual artistry shall be based on the preference of the
participant. The required base paper to be used during the contest
however is an illustration board (1/4).
4. At the option of the contestant, he/she may use pencils to draft sketches
of his/her concepts provided that the contestant should finish the artwork
for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
5. The top three posters will be declared winners.

Science Fiction writing

1. Each section must have 1 contestant to represent their class.


2. The contestants should prepare a science fiction genre story.
3. The contestant shall use a laptop to compose his/her story, and it shall be
passed through a flashdrive.
4. The length of the story will be according to the preference of the writer.
5. The writer will be given 2 hours to finish his/her work.
SCIENCE OLYMPICS:
1. There must be 1 group composed of 7 members each to represent their
section.
2. Each group must provide their own materials. Specifically the following:
For Grade 7:
Eggs
Newspaper
Tape
Scissors
Yarn
For Grade 8:
Diet coke
Mentos
For Grade 9:
Newspaper (3)
For Grade 10:
Popsicle sticks
Rubber bands
Tape
Paper
Plastic bottle cap
Scissors
Glue
3. The mechanics of the game will be explained on the spot.
JINGLE
1. Each class must have a group consisting of at least 15 members.
2. Each group should create their own jingle either in Tagalog, English, or
mixed.
3. The lyrics and overall performance of the jingle shall revolve around
the innovations, benefits, and topics under science.
4. Participants are allowed to have their own melody or to adopt the
tunes of existing songs. The group is required to have their own
background music, otherwise a twenty (20) point demerit shall be
given.
5. Participants shall be given 4-7 minutes, including the entrance and exit,
to perform.
6. The use of costumes and props are permitted. The use of firecrackers
(and other materials that can cause fire) and animals are strictly
prohibited.
7. The participants’ music shall be submitted to the officers a day before
the contest.
8. The criteria for judging are as follows.

DRRM Science Fair Activity Guidelines

A. Survival Quiz Bee Game: How to face the disasters


1. Each group will have 5 participants each grade level
2. The group will be given a scroll. The scrolls contain resources that correspond a point
3. The group will be given 10 mins to strategize and plan where to put the resources on the given
scroll
4. This is a game of managing resources. Questions will be given and each group will be expected
to answer in a minute
5. 3 points will be given if the answer is correct and have a chance to steal the others resources
6. The group with most points and resources wins the game

B. Name and spell that thing


1. Each class will have 1 participant to join the activity
2. A picture and descriptions about typhoons, types of hazard and disaster, and resources and
objects used in DRRM will be flash on a monitor
3. The participant will be given 1 minute to name and spell the flashed pictured
4. Participants will be rank with the most points

C. Lava Lamp Making


1. Each class will have 2 participants to make the lava lamp
2. The participants are expected to bring their own materials
3. The participants will have 1 hour to make the Lava Lamp
