A Message from our College Advisor

Hello! I am the college advisor here at


Surry Early College HS. The purpose of
this newsletter is to keep students and
families  up to date with the latest
information as it pertains to college.
This includes school events, important
deadlines, and scholarship
information. Ms. Mathews and I want
to help all our students strive towards
reaching their post-graduation goals
and we are here to help along the way.

NC Residency Determination
"What is it?" Services (RDS)
A required application for a student to be considered to receive the
benefits of in-state tuition and state financial aid.

In-state tuition: a much cheaper college experience than out-of-


state
State aid: grants (money that you don't have to pay back)

* DACA/Undocu students will not qualify for in-
state aid, but will still need to complete RDS for
college application purposes
"How do I do it?"
1. Go to NCresidency.org
2. Student creates a CFNC account if you do not already have one
(please check with college advisor or counselor to see if you
already have an account.
3. Update profile
BE ACCURATE! Mistakes cause BIG problems.
Social Security Number and Date of Birth are critical
4. Complete RDS Online interview
5. Upload documents (if required)
RDS tells you if you need documents, not everyone will
You have 25 days to upload documents if asked for it

DON'T CREATE ANOTHER CFNC ACCOUNT- If you do not know if
you already have one, contact Ms. Mathews or I or RDS (844) 319-
3640

DON'T GUESS! - They check your answers with NC State agencies.


If you guess they will mark you as a non-resident (i.e. no in-state
tuition)

SAVE YOUR RESIDENCY CERTIFICATION NUMBER (RCN)- You will


need it for all applications to NC public colleges and universities
