FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
1. First start frame data (50 ‘0’s, ‘0’ is zero) is send, and data frames (led display data) are send in turn. Start frame and data
frame is MSB first shift, each bit is send over rising edge of DCLK.
2. The first data frame is belong to the LED near to the shift port. Data format: 1Bit “1” + three 8Bits gray display data.
3. After all display data is send, the pulse of DCLK is send additionally. The pulse number is equal to SM16716 number. Then
display data is valid. When the pulse of DCLK is send, the sign of data is hold ‘0’.
SERIAL DATA CASCADE
Serial data cascade distance maybe long between ICs in system. So SM16716 adopts two -wire self-correction transfer
protocol in order to eliminate signal competition. In addition, push -pull circuit is designed in DOUT port and DCLKO port , in
order to cascade two ICs by 6 meters wire at 2MHz clock state. To avoid reflection of serial sign, the resister(50Ω) is
cascaded between DOUT and DCLKO.
256-STEP DIMMING PWM OUTPUT
SM16716 adopts 8 bits, 256 steps PWM output protocol. Due to adopt two-wire self -correction transfer protocol,
SM16716 can support high-speed data transfer. In application, SM16716 is applied to video playback.
If display data bits is lower than 8 bits, you can correct display data by gamma-correction.

When OMODE=’1’, VCC must be less than 12V and output current is less than 40mA. If VCC is less than 7.0V, you can
remove the units in the dashed box and directly connect IC’s VDD to supply VCC.
RL = (VCC—CLED—EOUT)/ILED
RL is a current limiting resister, VCC is LED supply, VLED is the sum of all LED forward voltage, Vout is the saturation voltage
of OUT(about 0.4~0.8V), Iled is current of LED, less than 20mA.
SM16716 has a good driver capability. You can refer to right diagram when design led driver

When OMODE =’0’, the output of SM16716 is source driver. This mode is applied to the high voltage led -string which
driver by high voltage NPN transistor.

This mode is same to sink driver mode( OMODE=’1’), but led is driver by NPN transistor reference to top diagram.
ILED=IO(RB=5K)
The max voltage of supply is depended on Vceo of the NPN transistor (general,Vceo>25V).
