Grade 9 Mathematics Outline 2019-2020

Welcome to Grade 9 Math!

Textbook: Math Makes Sense 9, Pearson


For each class you must have: pencil/pen, calculator (preferably scientific), notes booklet
(supplied), binder with extra paper, textbook

Objective

This course will give students the opportunity to improve their performance and retention in mathematics
while also developing their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Through work inside and outside
of the classroom, students will continue to develop their work ethic and their cooperative and
communication skills.

Homework

I will always give you enough class time to complete the majority of your work. However, if you do not use
your class time wisely, you may have to finish incomplete work before you come to the next day’s class. If
you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed so you can complete it and receive
marks for it.

Tests

You will write a test at the end of every unit. If you miss a test due to an excused absence, it is your
responsibility to notify me before the test is written so we can schedule another time for you to write it.
Students will also write a cumulative Midterm Exam in January and Final Exam in June.
