Here’s Where You Can Eat Fresh Produce and Help the Local Economy

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 30, 2018) – Do you know of a place that sells fresh

produce, handcrafted goods, and locally raised meats right here in the Tri-Cities Area?

Jonesborough’s Boone Street Market is the place for fresh, local produce that you can count on.

Commonly referred to as “Jonesborough’s Front Porch,” Boone Street Market is the year-round

store for buying and selling produce and goods.

“Since the success of the Jonesborough Farmers Market, our vision was always to expand

to a year-round event. With the community and the town by our side, we were able to do this by

opening Boone Street Market,” says farmer Heather Halsey. “It’s the same fresh produce and the

same farmers, just open yearly to better benefit the community.”

Supporting local farmers also supports our economy. On average, farmers get 15 cents of

every dollar from their sales. At Boone Street Market, local farmers keep over 75 cents on the

dollar. Additionally, locally owned businesses provide better and stronger communities by

sustaining good communal relationships. In turn, this brings neighbors together to contribute to

local causes and decision-making. Supporting local farmers means that revenue is recycled back

into the community and local economy, thus elevating the whole community.

Boone Street Market is helping the environment, too. Usually, food travels 1,500 miles.

This shipping contributes to pollution and uses large amounts of natural resources. When you

shop from Boone Street Market, you’re buying goods from a 100-mile radius around

Jonesborough. This creates a sustainable environment, and a healthier environment.

Additionally, produce bought from traditional grocery stores are highly processed and grown

with pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and genetic modifications. In contrast, you can feel

assured at Boone Street Market to know that your food is fresh and minimally processed.

Not only can you buy local meat and produce, but Boone’s Street Market also has

handmade goods. You can find t-shirts, coffee mugs, jewelry and more at Boone’s Street Market

located at 101 Boone Street in Jonesborough, past the visitor’s center.

“We always say Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food,” Halsey continues, “at Boone

Street Market you know where your food is coming from, and where your money is going to.

Your food came from your neighbors, and your money is going right back into the community.

We have over 1000 food items from 100 different vendors, all produced within 100 miles of

Jonesborough. You can’t beat that, and you can’t hear that from a grocery store.”

About Boone Street Market: They are a non-profit with the goal of giving the maximum

return to the producer. They only carry food produces within 100 miles of Jonesborough,

Tennessee and Central Appalachia. Boone Street market is not only a store, but offers a

commercial kitchen for classes, own to-go features, and catering. To learn more about Boone
